The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Though I'm still playing through and yet to finish it, one email log you can get in Death Stranding explicitly raises the point "we have no idea what's happened in other countries". Global apocalypse stories have a lot of potential for repeating the same overall disaster in a sequel but to another distinct population with distinct conditions, leading to different stories. I'm struggling to think of where that approach has actually been used though. (Did the Walking Dead do it for their side show? Not sure, didn't watch it, just heard about it...)

RE7 and Revelations 2's most horrifying concept that personalities can be spread via infection and effectively become their own entity each time is probably one of the better sci-fi concepts they've introduced, and I especially love that they are not a hive mind and will actually fight each other.

hiveminds went from an earnest attempt at portraying a cool scifi concept into a way to save on developing ai behavior

While I see your point in that zombies lose their zest once you get used to them, you lost me comparing this with RE. The thing with RE is that they went the outlandish and campy route. Mister X worked, so they brought Nemesis/The Pursuer. That worked, so they made Wesker the Terminator. That worked (sort of) so then they made the plagas, and so on, and for each boss came more outlandish and nonsensical mutations, and eventually we got boulder punching and COMPLETE GLOBUHL SATU-RAY-SHUNNN!!!

I would curb all that shit and try to keep it as grounded in reality as it possibly could be to have humans and other vertebrates infected by parasite shrooms. That means no "speshul" infected, because that kind of thing isn't real. There can be hints of a hive mind, and of higher brain patterns, but there is no reaching out to infected as a society; the one thing these fungi have in common is that once it blows up the host is gone.

ETA: I have nothing against RE and I know it's not supposed to be hard science or anything like that, and a lot of those nonsensical stuff is pretty cool. I'm just comparing it to the first TLOU game in particular and a hypothetical more grounded approach that could have been. It's obvious someone did some research and it's obvious that Uck-ma'am was not the one that did it.
Yeah, I was going to add that while RE is able to add all sorts of terrifying new evolutions and variants by going the campy conspiracy-mutation route, TLOU's avenues for pursuing that route are more limited since the game's character tries to keep it relatively 'grounded'.

Stuff like the infected lasting so long already feels like a bit of a stretch considering they already sort of have lifespans depending on the condition of the host (which are technically still alive and are affected by things like starvation and climate), while the weird variants like the Rat King feel like one-offs rather than plausible evolutions.

They could go the conspiracy-lab-military route, but then it would place TLOU alongside a bunch of other similar games that already explore that trope. Honestly, I wish Naughty Dog tried to expand a bit more on the zombies and fungi in TLOU2 to help expand the universe (which is still painfully limited) and to keep it open for future entries, but I guess they had other priorities.

Does TLOU media ever talk about what is happening in other continents? The obvious question is "what about Australia and NZ?". Island countries would be faring better, you would think...
This is one of those missed opportunities. The world in TLOU2 isn't expanded all that much from TLOU1, and gives the players little more to think about- I don't even think they ever gave any hints as to how Boston fared between the two games.

It would sort of turn into a Resident Evil expanded universe, where you have a cast of characters whose common thread is their dealing with a zombie threat.

Resident Evil is about bio organic weapons not just Zombies tho. Zombies are the product of just 1 virus out of many. A new LOU game would probably need more & interesting creatures. In my opinion you can't use only Fungus Zombies in every game because it's boring.

But i have to say that.. as much as you dont like this game. Its still Neil's game and story. So if he wants it this way, then its his way. Only thing i am disappointed in, is how he treated Naughty Dogs members is all
Yep. It's Neils game. His game. Not a game for people like for example; a Hideo Kojima game. Notice that it's not a game for Hideo Kojima, it's a game by Hideo Kojima.

So i heard that the japanese version censored the sex scene in the game. now that is something to behold that a country like Japan censors a sex scene

They're used to that at this point with SIEA constantly getting them to censor anime games. At least the censorship makes it ambiguous, instead of being clearly a sex scene where he went in dry.

With the world being essentially over and everyone is constantly having to literally fight for survival. More people would be looking like this. Strong, thick and rugged rather than prim proper and "sexy". Cuz women won’t be doing modeling, they will be fighting and surviving. If you think training in a post apocalyptic story is unrealistic then I think you should start educating yourself more about survival stories. There are many women athletes around the world, you find it in ufc, wwe, CrossFit, bodybuilding and powerlifting competitions and all kinds of sports, you will find buff women, a lot of them are, you also need to know that sometimes genetics plays a big role, and that is actually true to a lot of athletes. If Ellie is unique and has immunity, why can’t Abby be also different and have her own unique traits. It’s not a hard concept to grasp on.
0.01 Social Credit score per post, eh Chang?

The original game had an "Ellie Edition" and a "Joel Edition", this trashfire only has an "Ellie Edition". Do you think they'll have the balls to release an "Abby Edition", even though it would probably end up being a failure?
