I'm not bothered by the idea that TLOU2 is probably going to win GOTY because I don't think the amount of awards something wins is indicative of whether that game is enjoyable, and TLOU is the video game equivalent of an Oscar bait movie so it winning is the expected outcome.

I'm annoyed because if it does win, people are not going to shut the fuck up about it. There's gonna be a ton of posts about how "haters and trolls can try to review bomb it but this award proves them wrong" or some bullshit, and I bet even Druckmann and some combination of Troy Baker/Laura Bailey/Ashley Johnson are gonna be all smug about it. Especially Troy.

On the other hand, if TLOU2 were to win GOTY, would it encourage other game companies to make their games like TLOU2, with massive depression fest storylines, and brutally killing established characters off, to replace them with woke ones?

dunno, it certainly seem to have worked for star wars and star trek. but yeah, let's do this, if those companies are that retarded they deserve everything they get. what's wrong about burning a billion dollar franchise to ground by being retarded and high on your own farts?
 
Ori 2 and Yakuza 7 both got snubbed. TLOU2 is only up because it's an award show meaning the nominees are decided by fart huffers, and because it is basically oscarbait in game form. Don't really know why Ghost is up there either, I haven't played it to be honest but every video i've seen of it makes it just look like Asscreed: Nipnong Edition, not offensive but just meh. Hades and Doom are really the only ones on the GOTY list that deserve it imo. I really hope Hades does win for narrative and GOTY, not only because it would be hysterical for Druckmann to get BTFOd by Greg Kasavin who used to just write reviews for magazines, but also because Greg kasavin worked on Spec Ops: The Line which did everything TLOU2 tried to do narratively only a million times better.

Lol you thinkg publishers "order up games" based on this circus joke of a show. Plus the walking simulator non-game genre is restricted to the triple-A tier for now.

it was a big hit with soibois and dangerhairs, and those infest most dev teams theses days, especially in the relevant departments like writing and lower management (since that is all they can do with their worthless degrees).
there's also the capcom lead, but take those as you will.

They won't go full Oscar Gold but they will use more SJW/woke dogwhistles to appeal to the gaming press.

Pretty sure they will keep trying to copy GTA V and Live Service shit. They're going to chase the money and over the shoulder cinematic walking simulators dont a good live service make.

I don't expect Doom Eternal to win many awards because the jury is made up of the same cockbreathing reviewing retards who couldn't figure out how to cheese the Marauder encounters and had IRL tears of frustration venting going on.

Didn't Doom Eternal also get flack for trying to include Denuvo early on, which they had to remove in response to that?
 
It did, but they removed it after a DRM-free executable was found included in the dumb Bethesda launcher, possibly due to rogue employees trying to fight off denuvo. It was such a shitshow that Bethesda caved in and removed denuvo altogether afterwards. The idea that Bethesda's employees cannot fucking stand their management makes me grin like an idiot however.

If anything that makes me respect the devs infinitely more. But as you mentioned above, given the outlets that review games recently I don't expect Eternal to take GOTY either.

Daisuke Tsuji deserves everything because he did everything mocap and did it so much better. Lauren Tom also deserves praise for her performance as well in Tsushima.
