The Matrix Resurrections Thread - Woah

Easily this. Bill and Ted 3 appears to be a passion project for the actors. Will it suck? Maybe? But the Wachowski's haven't made anything good in their entire careers.

FTFY

This is a controversial take, but I personally didn't even like the first Matrix movie.

Now, I get why it was popular at the time and the visual effects were pretty groundbreaking and impressive even today, but the movie itself overall just doesn't hold up when I re-watched it.

Even when I saw it the first time, I felt it was decent but also kind of overhyped.

Really, the Wachowski Brothers were a one-hit wonder and they've been desperately trying to recapture that success ever since the first Matrix.

Bound was an eerie warning sign of their autogynephilia and it's pretty goddamn obvious that Andy Wachowski only trooned out to cash in on a trend and try to stay relevant.

Larry might have too, but IIRC he trooned out before it was trendy, so it's a little less obvious in his case.

Speed Racer. I remember liking Cloud Atlas when I saw it in the theater, but it's probably bad too. None of their original IPs have turned out good.

Never watch Speed Racer again, just enjoy your memories. It's a visually amazing, bright, colorful experience with as much depth as a puddle. Like it's the only movie I can think of that I could honestly say would have worked better as a music video.

There are rumors that
Bruh. Why not just have it take place way after the first 3 movies. Have a new chosen one and have Neo make a cameo as some glitch in the matrix to give advice to the new chosen one or some shit, idk. Like something is threatening the peace between machines and humans or something.

I've never seen Speed Racer. Just heard people like it since its goofy and campy as the original series was and didn't try and make it dark and edgy.

There are rumors that
the Matrix trilogy will exist in the Matrix 4 as a series of video games.

Kinda neat. Reminds me of how in books those japanese Ring movies are based on

turned out Ring and Spiral in a giant super computuer and the main character is able to experience parts of the first two books from a different perspective

Holy shit, now that Ring video game makes sense. I always thought it was strange that it had that subplot about the virtual world and the real world and stuff. It feels disconnected when you only know about the movies.

They only had the first success because it was a conglomeration of various anime manga kung fu movies and 80s sci fi books they liked. and it was a pretty decent conglomeration I gotta say, but they used it all up in the first movie. they're great at interpreting existing media but not so much creating something entirely new. that's why people liked speed racer and cloud atlas but not the matrix sequels so much. if anyone wants more matrix they're better off reading blame! and watching the first ghost in the shell movie.

This is going to pull a nuWars and make it so that nothing the original characters did mattered in the end. The fact that Reeves and Moss are returning and there is no mention of Fishburne means this is probably set generations after the first movies with Neo and Trinity being resurrected from some kind of digital afterlife in a new Matrix.
They're probably treating The Matrix Online as canon. To avoid a giant wall of text, Morpheus gets killed by a program in an early chapter. You find pieces of Neo's RSI in the game, but beyond that all they say about Neo is that the machines neither gave his body back to Zion nor recycled it. According to a developer file dump they were going to reveal in an unreleased chapter that Neo and Trinity were part of a machine experiment to perfectly translate human DNA into code and that Trinity's consciousness exists in the matrix without a physical form until the final chapter, where it would have merged with the source. So they're probably gonna say that the machines had backups of Neo and Trinity's code and just remade them, or something like that.

I feel foolish for letting the old Matrix/sci-fi fan in me get excited by these ideas. Especially after Reloaded and especially Revolutions (and Enter the Matrix... never played the later PS2 game) were so disappointing.

And the troon director, we know, won't have the self-restraint not to fill the new film with cringeworthy "woke" bullshit, even beyond what Hollywood has always done. *sigh*

If they really wanted to introduce a trans character they could say being trans is a glitch in the matrix where your RSI isn't the same gender as your body outside of the matrix, and dysphoria comes from having the wrong RSI. But even going that route would probably take more restraint than The Wachowski's have.

Wait what? So the computer simulated ghosts and all that?
