Fields himself seems like a pretty humble and chill guy. I think he blamed himself a lot for letting the team down.
Caleb Williams is going to be a fucking handful though. He was trying to get a no-tag clause in his rookie contract.
Well, here's a bit of a power level, however, I think I can bring a unique perspective to this conversation that you all might like to hear about.
I was at the Detroit Draft this year. It was a blast, hung out primarily near the McAfee crew. I got pictures and talked to most of the cast believe it or not. I was hanging just outside their media "shack" and I saw what I thought to be a Bears fan talking to Foxy. In what I felt was a weird interaction, I saw the man give Foxy his phone so that he could charge it for them. Curiosity gets the best of me and I stick my nose into the moment and I ask the man some questions. Turns out the man was a close friend of Foxy and he by extension is a "behind-the-scenes friend " of the Mcafee crew. (Trust me there's a reason why I'm telling this). We chatted about the draft, Macafee, Bellichek, and whatnot. After getting the general download of the guy, I asked him if he was a fan of the Bears since he was wearing their gear. The man replies that he used to play for the Bears as a punter.
I was surprised but it did click for me since he was very athletically fit for a man who I thought was just a fan who happened to be buds with Foxy. After another bit of chatter and hoopla. It stalled and there was a bit of dead air since both of us were just sitting around waiting. This is where I was feeling the 16-dollar-a-can crown royals they were selling there, I asked something that I honestly thought I would really really regret.
"So what the fuck happened with Fields man?"
The guy shook his head and started a rant of rants about the Bears organization. Turns out the locker room was
very happy with Fields, they loved him, The guy attested to Justin's character. The issue he seemed to have with those at the top, specifically the GM he ended his statement with a simple
"I love Fields, I hate Ryan Poles"
With that entire interaction, especially with the fact he was a former player for them. It's all I needed to hear about the Bears as a franchise. They are a lolcow team and org. Through and through. Justin did all he fucking could to make a broken system look somewhat functional. The Bears are never gonna find success until they completely remodel as an org, which will not happen until the team is in a different owner's hands.
The reason why I tell this is to give you guys a general picture of an incredible conversation that I was able to have with someone of that stature. I consider myself, 1 a Lions fan, 2 a random drunk motherfucker at that time, and 3
someone who normally has no business asking a professional football player a somewhat invasive question about their previous employment. VERY lucky to even hear the footnote version of this situation.
So yeah, I'd say the Bears are completely fucked, Caleb is a shiny new toy in a line of QBs that have promise but never work out due to so much bull shittery the likes of which most of us will not see firsthand.
TLDR: I met a cool guy who turned out to be a former punter for the Bears who spilled the beans on the franchise, it's fucked Bears fans. Also sorry for the long read but It's something I consider special to even be able to hear in the first place.
