I yearn for the days of a RB like Mike Alstott or Jerome Bettis, or FB's like Lorenzo Neal and William Henderson. We kinda get that in Derrick Henry, but he doesn't fit the same archetype IMO. Brandon Jacobs as well. There's something romantic about a 250+ lb grown man either fighting 2-3 other dudes for a few more yards or putting the fear of God into a defensive back that's in the way.I see kids in Alstott jerseys every once in a while. They were everywhere in the late 90s so I assume they're hand-me-downs from dad.
It's funny cause the most popular Bucs jerseys during the time were Alstott/Sapp/Brooks/Barber. Real fuckin ground and pound football right there.
What's interesting is it appears the pendulum is starting to swing back that direction. Offenses have progressively gotten smaller and faster the last two decades or so and defenses followed suit. Now defenses are finally "catching up" and figuring out how to effectively gameplan against offenses, which is what we saw last year with low scoring and whatnot. So the offenses are shifting the paradigm, getting bigger and bigger, and returning to the ground to combat defenses that are light in the ass. Not saying we'll see ground and pound football dominate but the league is evolving so that teams aren't only running the ball 10-15 times a game anymore.
Speaking of Brandon Jacobs, just imagine trying to tackle that 6'4, 270lb, bald negro when he's running with a full head of steam. WTF are you supposed to do? There's a clip of him talking about doing cocaine before a highschool game and getting 338 yards and 4 TDs, which is hilarious. Like, I've seen clips of high school players who are clearly grown men playing against children, but that game was that + cocaine.
