I agree it's too far gone, but I think the principle being apolitical should still stand.
i concur. regardless of personal appeal, sporting events are one of the last real bastions of human interaction. you can go with friends and scream "HELL YEAH KIWI BOYS GIT ER DOOOOOONEEEEEE" etc, or if youre so inclined and social go yourself, make friends, or do stuff that could entertain others without being a public nuisance or harm, maybe making friends or a kids lifelong fond memory etc. even digitally, going to a bar or inviting friends/family to watch. even if you multi task or just eat chips and read something on your phone it can still be fun to see them get into it and participate occassionally.
ideally you can also kind of sponge up useful life tips from it, respecting people on opposing sides, learning that even participating alongside some people can be a big honor, or small accomplishments like just placing in a cup or event instead of people that cut themselves for not winning. (of course there's factors like really needing money to help a family member or start a career or whatever, but it helps with self respect and respecting others).
by design it's a place that could curb racism, classism etc. it's really a ancient form of your video games, books etc where it's fun, escapism and a channel for different urges. like if you had a prejudiced white or black boxer, they fought and whoever won was respectful and like "i talked a lot of shit but it was a honor to fight so-and-so, it was real close and they threw a mean punch" you could wind up with weird unlikely friendships. since people in major events are very driven, you (used to) wind up seeing incredibly skilled and gifted people of all races and creeds presented, so if there was a group you didn't like, you might wind up seeing someone that's a credit to their group instead of shittier people. there's not a random white guy spitting in a spittoon and calling everyone a dirty nigger, there's not a black guy dressed as prison bussy eating corn starch, there's not a long nosed jew rubbing his hands and chucking shekels to win, (at least on the field) it was just a skilled player that happened to be white/black/jewish/hispanic/asian etc etc. it was meritocracy and with player trades, borderline trading cards with people.
shoving political shit, blm, etc was dumb as fuck for business, dumb af for a cause that was already misguided by people who were corrupt af, pushed racial divides to the front, just made white and blacks with high functioning retard iq more prejudiced, libtards (not watching) go "wow so brave" and normies go "the fuck is this shit get back to the fuckin game" sliced tons of long term interest in sports which by extension also reduces social interaction and new friendships with people different than you (leading to more divides)
tldr team events bring together by design, "suck my dick and donate or you're a bigot" divides
