Man, I was so stoked for this when I was a kid (I was obsessed with games like this) but it ran like absolute shit and crashed constantly on the computer we had at the time, then the disc got lost in a move so I never got to play it properly.

I highly recommend this (still on-going) series to everyone here if you're interested in Simpsons and/or video game history. Lots of really cool insight into how The Simpsons franchise was adapted to fit the ever-shifting video game landscape, as well as showing lots of really bizarre and unusual spins on the characters that you really wouldn't see in the show- presumably this was before the branding and art was as standardized as it is now, so you get some really unusual and sometimes off model artwork, and really strange uses of characters (Mothra Marge from Bart's Nightmare stands out as an example.) A great YouTube series to watch if you have the time. I'm really looking forward to him getting to Road Rage, Hit and Run, and The Simpsons Game- those hold a special place in my heart since I grew up with those

I think I watched all the current episodes. Seems like all those Simpsons games from the 90s have one thing in common: bad platformers with instant kill enemies, unclear level design, clunky movement, little direction.

I’m surprised of how Escape from Camp Deadly was better received and it predating that one episode where Bart & Lisa DO go to camp.

Acclaim was usually the seal of Licensed Game Dogshit but they really had something special with the Simpsons crap they made

I cannot watch the ending without crying. When a Mr. Bergstrom comes and goes in your life and you have nobody to fulfill that purpose, it does feel defeating. Homer’s rebound from his callousness towards Lisa and feeling good about being a family man was something I missed too.

I miss when The Simpsons was able to be funny, heartwarming and real at once.

Something obvious I noticed from his videos on Bart and the Beanstalk, Escape from Camp Deadly, and Bart's Nightmare, you play Simpsons themed video games for, well, The Simpsons universe.

When Fortnite had its Simpsons themed season, that gravitated me towards playing it to unlock the various Simpsons gear. Actually, the bonus was being able to explore Springfield. That's why Hit & Run, Road Rage, and The Simpsons Game appealed to me. I can freely explore the Springfield town and interact with the countless Simpsons characters as the Simpsons proper.

You COULD just prop up Simpsons characters and locales into any genre and pop, but they would lack their own identity. Meanwhile, Hit & Run feels like it existed as its own like an interaction season. Even the limited Escape from Camp Deadly can base itself as original as Camp Deadly is an original Simpsons location with original Simpsons characters.

While I agree that the episode is a tearjerker, the ending reconciliation was forced as it should have created a permanent rift between Lisa and Homer that should have taken YEARS to even semi heal. Also it had a catastrophic effect on the franchise as Lisa fans would, decades later, derail the entire show based on them wanting to avenge Lisa over this episode and Moaning Lisa Blues by having the entire bend over backwards to appease her.

I had a Mr. Bergstorm in my life, so that episode did bring back some good (and bad) memories when I was attending college. Still, I did have a soft spot from Homer. He messed up, he felt remorse, he tried to understand and reconciled with his children.

Modern Simpsons would've just had that as a gag if that and move on. Actually, Family Guy did that regarding Meg and her family.


Nothing gets resolved, nobody learns anything, everything goes back to the status quo. Gross.

The backlash from the Family Guy episode in question did have some blowback as Seth had zero choice but to go all in on Brian being a monster so vile even Quagmire can't stand him.

Urban legend is that Escape From Camp Deadly was greenlit when it was first announced there was going to be a Simpsons movie and internally at least, the producers telling Acclaim it was going to be set at summer camp. And Acclaim pretty much released the game rather than wait for the movie because they had promised Nintendo a Gameboy Simpsons game and couldn't weasel out of the release date.
 
Why is chief wiggums wife voiced by a black woman or black sounding woman? the fuck? Also holy shit Marge sounds like she is on her deathbed. Mercy kill this show.

This is exactly why I don’t empathize with her in this episode.
It aired before I was born, and by the time I started watching Simpsons, they had already been dipping their toes into all the modern character issues they’re currently drenched in. Lisa was no longer a smart kid who was still a kid, she was an NPR host who couldn’t physically age.
Not gonna PL even more, so I’ll just stay I should be able to empathize with her here based on my childhood, but I still can’t.

I empathized with her in Lisa the Greek and when she lost Bleeding Gums Murphy. I think because those episodes show she’s smart and creative without being elitist and dogmatic about it. However, atp we’ve had umpteen ‘Lisa’s so brilliant and perfect and nobody gets her’ that I instantly wall up at any episode making that point.

The show undermines its characters the longer it goes on aka Flanderization.

She sounds indistinguishable from Hibbert’s wife. When did that happen? Aren’t they supposed to be strictly casting correct races or whatever nonsense?

And Marge…(sigh). Imagine if Disney was still working your grandma like this. Poor Julie, I guess it’s good she doesn’t have kids (I think).
 
At least how I remember it, Lisa started out as smart but not some ridiculous genius. I think there were some episodes she was actually put in a school for gifted children and was immediately humbled.

I liked the idea that Bart was smarter than Lisa and just never put in the effort.

The thing I keep hearing from new Simpsons fans is the line "No no the Simpsons is actually really good now! It was bad for years but some the seasons that just came out are great!" and then you go watch them and it's an episode about Bart learning about how diversity is our strength and Marge sounds like she is in stage 4 throat cancer.
