The Outer Worlds - Obsidian's new game, like Borderlands meets Fallout: New Vegas

I’ll never forget when they had a character that was used to make her look like Ruby Rose

It’s incredible how quickly this game was forgotten for how much praise it got during launch
I played it and don't understand how it got praise at all. It has four enemy types, like three of each weapon types and maybe eight armor sets? That's like tech demo shit.

And if that wasn't bad enough the cast which was almost exclusively comprised of bald lesbians were absurdly annoying.

New Vegas fans really *really* wanted this to be New Vegas 2.

Like all the praise was literally for the first week and then the realization set in.

It makes me excited for the supposed *actual* New Vegas 2 lol

People really wanted to stick it to Bethesda after Fallout 76 (and New Vegas, where the myth of them sabotaging a game they funded still pervades to this day) that they lavished TOW with praise and awards. After the launch period, people had enough time to digest just how hollow the game was compared to the likes of Fallout 3 & 4, let alone New Vegas, thus no one talks about it except for some videos critiquing its mediocrity.

Maybe the sequel can pull an Assassin's Creed II and make something good out of blandness, but I find it redundant in light of Starfield.

I went into the Outer Worlds with fairly low expectations, but I got it for like, half off on a PSN sale.

The gunplay is… passable to fine, but I legitimately couldn’t tell you a single fucking thing about that games story. For an RPG, that’s an actual death sentence. Meanwhile, I have enough off hand tidbits from New Vegas that I can bring up, and I still probably missed shit.

The problem is, everyone who made the good games of the past has either moved on, retired, or been pushed out by wokies. There’s a reason I jokingly wish video games would crash again - though maybe with the rest of the economy shitting the bed, that might speed things up - and just push the people who make mediocre to bad games out…

Playing it this week and it's....okay.....? Very small worlds, good dialog trees, graphics are interesting. UI on a console is tiny, will have to get that sorted.

Is it any good if I want to play a Zapp Brannigan type of character?

You can't hit on NPCs in dialogue. Clothing covers the whole body so you can't go pantsless. There are no alien races to start wars with. You can't use your ship to fight nor sit back and send your men into battle without you. The character creator mostly produces androgynous humanoids with heavily weathered faces.
The game doesn't really support roleplaying at all, much less such a specific character.

I spent almost an hour playing my first character before realising his grunts sounded oddly feminine. Went to the inventory screen, took off his outfit and lo-and-behold my gruff western-inspired gunslinger Daring Dan had himself a pair of tits. Nothing else really memorable happened after that.

You want to hear something horrific? Truly terrible? Scarier than any campfire story you've ever heard?

I played this all the way through on the Switch. I'm not joking when I say I've seen better looking PS1 games compared to the port. I actually watched playthroughs of the game on PC and didn't even recognize places I had spent hours in.

So Obsidian just put out the final "Spacer's Choice Edition" of the game:

It is $10 extra for a higher resolution slow running version of the game in what probably should have been a free patch. Because it counts as a different game under Steam you can't use your save files from the original game. Reviews for it on Steam are mostly negative right now.

True story, I legit quit this game in the final act like 45 minutes before the credits rolled. We had woken up the frozen colonists and were about to enter the final battle and then black buzzcut lesbian #2 said something snarky and I sighed, put the controller down, and went to play Skyrim.

I was just so fucking tired after 12 hours of that shit I couldn't take even one minute more.

Never went back either.

I can't believe there making a Outer Worlds 2. I've never seen so many copy and pasted assets in a game in my life. Even free games have less copy and pasted assets than this did.

Obsidian claims they had nothing to do with the Spacer's Choice update and that it's all on Private Division.

Well i was given this as a gift some time ago by a family member because i liked NV, is it worth playing?
