The Outer Worlds - Obsidian's new game, like Borderlands meets Fallout: New Vegas

I'm enjoying it, small issue I have is that interaction and the holster weapon are mapped to the same button and there so your constantly pulling out your weapon when interacting with object and people.

At least it's not like RDR2, where "focus on person to talk" and "aim gun at person" were mapped to the same damn button depending on if your gun was drawn. I ended up having to shoot so many people just because I accidentally pointed a gun at them and they freaked out and threatened to tell the sheriff.

I liked Fallout 4 okay. Outer Worlds thus far is considerably better, though it's a fair bit too easy to burgle everything in sight with NPCs standing right next to you. People are very incurious about a random stranger heading into their empty house and coming out with armloads of stuff.

NV is great, the actual game play (ie the shooting) isn't so hot because it runs on Bugthesda's old creation engine. Story telling, interactions and choice is top notch.
Having played it recently, I went just went with a punching character, found a power fist early on and cheesed the game by slip-slide-punching everything to death. I'm glad I did this because on the few occasions I used guns I found them to be too much of a crap-shoot (Although I poured basically zero points into it.)

FFS am I the only person in the world who actually liked Fallout 4?

More importantly though, anyone playing on PC know how hard it pushes the computer? I upgraded for FO4 and I’m hoping to get to the next console cycle before having to upgrade again.
Fallout4 is lifeless compared to NV, the quests are unambitious and lame, the plotting is less elaborate, the characters are boring, the character building is boring and two dimensional, and the map is empty with half of it being taken up by empty featureless water. It even looks worse than the previous title in some ways, in spite of its increase in graphical fidelity. The only real improvement across the board is the gun-play.

Oh, one other gripe, creatures can apparently only hear things that happen within fifteen feet of them, because I've been busy shooting mines with a pistol just on the other side of a building from marauders and none of them even looked up.

Decided to use Game Pass to play Outer World's(Fuck Epic) and I was pleasantly surprised. Runs a bit ass with a 5700XT, but it looks nice. Dialogue is good, but seems shallow with choices. Shooting kinda feels stiff, but once I got pass a threshold it felt alright.

Fallout 4 is a time killer. It's the sort of thing you put on to play while you listen to a podcast or half watch an episode of a TV show. It's easy as piss, the choices don't matter till near the end.

You know what legitimately bothers me? NV is replete with whores, gambling, and poverty. Even the "town of poors" in Goodneighbor seems comparatively nice to Freeside. Its all so...Toothless.

Edit: To get back on track is Outer worlds "Toothless"?

They removed all the sleaze. Goodneighbor is meant to be some mafioso city, but apart from some hired guns and some drugs, it's just filled with ghouls. The only thing close to a prostitute is when you bang that singer who turns out to be a synth by passing a speech check. Hell, Diamond City has a worse homeless problem than Goodneighbor with that one guy on the streets begging for a Nuka Cola. I don't recall there being anyone sleeping rough in Goodneighbor.

So how much of it is "Corporations bad, people good" so far? Because since the first announcement trailer that's the kind of shtick I figured they'd be going for and I'll be damned if I'm gonna be lectured in hypocrisy.

Especially since according to Avellone Obsidian pretty much is a dystopian corporation.

Early in the game, but so far the corporations seem like over the top dickbags, they even extort money out of their employees for their own fucking graves. I need more time to see how outside factions are portrayed, but it's not exactly a flattering first impression for the corporate factions (Spacer's Choice, at least).

Addendum: I should note that Edgewater is going through some dire straights, so maybe corporate's better elsewhere.

It's a totally fine game. The combat feels good, especially when damage values are modded up across the board. Joseph Anderson has a video where he examines the core gameplay loop of go shoot monsters somewhere, loot all the valuables, use the loot to enhance your gear, and repeat. And that's a perfectly entertaining loop for killing a few hours. And I love building a robot army to form the supply lines of my new dieselpunk empire.

The problem with the game is that the roleplaying aspects are pretty well neutered. Your conversations with everybody are completely pointless, you only rarely have memorable character moments, and most importantly, I can't give a fuck about the baby I'm supposed to be scouring the wasteland to find. You're left with a fun exploration and combat engine, but a poor use of the Fallout branding.

Maybe it's because I'm playing on a standard Xbox One, but the graphics look a bit blurry in some areas, particularly the foliage. I know visuals aren't everything and that this is technically a AA game, but I'm finding it to be kind of distracting out in the wilderness.
Even on ultra the game is a bit blurry it think it because of the piss poor implementation of TAA. I wish they gave some sort of sharping filter to go along with it to help mitigate it or at least gave us the option to upscale or use an SSAA.

I enjoyed fallout 4 but my only issue had to be the VO for the MC it was just dumb.

Can't wait to play it after work tonight. Trying to keep myself as spoiler free as possible to start the game off.

I will say tho be careful if you're going to get the game on the Microsoft store. If youre not updated to the May 2019 update it won't you download the so make sure you can windows update first

I've been playing at 1440p. Blurriness doesn't seem to a issue at higher resolutions
Honestly it could be because I'm running on 3440x1440 which isn't "supported" but for some reason work in borderless widescreen.

Okay, so
the corporation that owns the first town you come across is a shitbag company that basically uses employees as slaves. We're talking late 1800s robber baron company town shenanigans. However, they're also the company that provides the infrastructure the people on the planet need to live. So if you dick over the company and drive them away, you're basically dooming the people to die once the power generator and other equipment breaks down and nobody's around to fix it.
Also, several people and logs note that the colony is on hard times and doesn't have supplies to make ends meet; people aren't being shorted on food and medicine because the company wants to short them, but because it literally doesn't have enough to go around.

More nuanced than I expected. Don't get me wrong, I know corporations would love to get away with shit like this, but I didn't figure they had anyone at Obsidian that knew nuance anymore.

Especially since one of the writers was senior game designer on WildStar. My opinion is changing some... is the Pass worth it on its own or nah?
