Xiaoma confirms what we all knew on camera by going to rural Ecuadorean Amazonia and getting laughed at by tribal people for his small appendage as he strips off naked to go hunt monkeys with them.

In all honesty it was a very interesting video paired with his video journeying to the Waorani tribeland. It's not the same as going to some market in NYC and trying to make small talk, some Waorani dude saw his videos and invited him. And he makes a good effort to get involved and stuck in with the village's culture though his Waorani is the same poor standard as usual and everyone just talks back to him in Spanish. Comments section predictably went mad over his super language skills and how it must have made the locals trust him so much more!

From Wikipedia:

Toki Pona was developed by the Canadian linguist and translator Sonja Lang (formerly Sonja Elen Kisa). Born in 1978 in Moncton, New Brunswick,[18] Lang grew up in a bilingual family; her mother spoke French, and her father spoke English. During and after her high school years, she became fluent in five languages, including Esperanto.[19] She later said that Esperanto was the inspiration for her creation of constructed languages.[20]
In 2001, Lang was experiencing depression and started working on Toki Pona as a way to simplify her thoughts.[21][19] In the same year, an early version of the language was published online, and it quickly gained popularity.[6] Early activity took place in a Yahoo! group. Members of the group discussed the language with one another in English, Toki Pona, and Esperanto, proposed changes, and talked about the resources on the tokipona.org site. At its peak member count, the group had a little over 500 members. Messages in the group were archived in the Toki Pona forum using phpBB.

Toki Pona was the subject of some scientific works,[2] and it has also been used for artificial intelligence and software tools,[22] as well as a therapeutic method for eliminating negative thinking by having patients keep track of their thoughts in the language.[6] In 2010 it was chosen for the first version of the vocabulary for the ROILA project. The purpose of the study was to investigate the use of an artificial language on the accuracy of machine speech recognition, and it was revealed that the modified vocabulary of Toki Pona significantly outperformed English.[25]
Sounds very autistic and feel like some something that the transsexuals would do. Speaking of which, transexual Toki Pona users have invented the word 'tonsi' for 'non-binary, trans', although it still as yet 'unoffiicial'.

Damn, those grammar mistakes I mentioned are still in the opening post. I suppose I should make my post bitching about toki pona now.

I tried to use toki pona for some language work I was doing and, far from help, it was a retardant. People have talked about using toki pona for basic language research over the years, but I've found this to be misguided for the simple fact that toki pona is too simple. It lacks too many characteristics of a real language to make it useful for even research. Something that works decently with it can very easily fall apart when applied to a real language, as the designer notices an issue here and an issue there which toki pona masked.

In linguistic terms, toki pona comprises semantic primes almost entirely, and because of this is largely incapable of self-description. Semantic primes are a part of a language not definable by the language; phrased differently, they're the basic collection from which all other meanings follow; I may not be giving a good explanation, it's a fascinating idea. It's such a beautiful feeling, to learn enough of a language to learn more of the language in that language, and no speaker of toki pona will ever feel that.

Right, I'd completely forgotten about this. It's so fucking funny to me that faggots took a language with a word count well beneath the needed minimum, and added a word specifically for themselves, the narcissists.

Xiaomanyc, the language autist who named himself after NYC and made a sensationalized video about his "near death" flight (it wasn't), is leaving NYC.
NYC soy-goblin who makes a living making "WHITE MAN SHOCKS CHINESE RESTAURANT WORKERS BY SPEAKING POOR CHINESE" videos came out with a video describing how NYC is a shithole and he had to leave.

He hits all the NPC points:
  • Still loves immigration and supports even more immigration even though immigration is actively destroying his "home".
    • Mad he can't get his kid into a free NYC daycare (unlike Sweden!!!) because of those pesky "migrants".
  • Mad that NYC won't open up more legal weed stores.
  • NYC is still totally great and worth it, just, you know, not for me now that I have a family.
  • The taxes are too high but we should all still pay our fair share. (????)
  • Also somehow a PRC propaganda piece.
There's a happy ending though: he just moves to New Jersey so won't fuck up another innocent state, for now.

tbh that guy comes off as a narcissist and more than a little mental. He's also pretty manipulative about how he presents things in general. For example in that video where he says the people in that chinese spa or whatever that was were surprised and impressed when he randomly started speaking their language he was either being deliberately disingenuous or he's an idiot. They were indeed surprised but they weren't impressed, take a good look at the reactions of the other workers when he started speaking. They were spooked and more than a little concerned. Not because they thought he was good at the language but because he said anything at all in it and it made them concerned about what he may or may not understand about the shit they tend to talk when they're working. Talking shit about customers is very, very common in those kinds of places and they always do it in their own language so you'll ignore it and won't understand them. They thought they might be about to get into some shit and they were going to get called out on something. The fact he didn't do this and didn't appear to be aware of any of this speaks volumes in itself as to his supposed fluency in the language and ability to understand what people are saying around him. He doesn't understand or speak nearly as much as he claims to or that interaction wouldn't have been nearly as nice as it was, the employees reactions make that quite clear

In other words, he outed himself and doesn't even know it. He's not very observant or good at reading people at all. You could see the uncomfortable tension the moment he opened his mouth and they realized he might understand their language

This kind of thing is pretty common. As a general rule one should be pretty wary when you go into a place like that and they make a point of not speaking your language around you. Usually means they're saying something they don't want you to hear. Happens alot with the french in quebec as well and seems to be weirdly common in german butcher shops for some reason

Learn languages when you sleep!

These have been popping up on Youtube a lot and claim that you can learn languages while listening to them when you sleep
This is hilarious as its been a running joke since the 80s about people trying to do stuff like this, to the point it was included in red dwarf as a running joke of its own that rimmer was always trying to take the easy way out of shit including tapes about learning esperanto while you sleep that lister tormented him about

The whole Matt vs Japan scam is why I always go to Livakivi for immersion learning content, all of the good with literally zero of the bad.

There are plenty of good channels, you just gotta look out the ones that ask you to pay when all the same advice is on every other channel on youtube. There is no shortcut. Paying a youtuber will not help you git good.

i know a little bit of hyperborean

I have developed my own dialect of Dutch, I have dubbed it Nederkaans. Learning both at the same time was a mistake and I’ve been slowly shifting more towards Dutch than I am its retarded brother.
Learning Dutch and Russian at the same time is not the best experience ever but oh well, i want to atleast know those and maybe spanish since i wanna go around countries and it'd be fun not looking like a total bitch and know the languages.

I can't tell if you're trying to insinuate that Sonja Lang is trans but if you are I can assure you she's not. I've been to a meetup.

I screwed up in Russian for my degree's language requirement causing me to retake all 3 years in a different language (German). It's a beautiful language, but be careful with it and get a good teacher!

This thread reminds me of a classic board lolcow, Nordamerikano aka Michael Brandini, who I don't see a mention of anywhere on this site. He was an American Esperantist and language autist who used to post on Krautchan in the late 00s-mid 10s. He looked almost exactly like the amerimutt meme and would frequently post about what language he was learning this week, achieving fluency or skill in none of them.

He was later discovered to have raped a couch surfer (male) who crashed at his place, if memory serves, and stopped coming around. Unfortunately I think I must have deleted all of my NA memes while cleaning out my folders since I no longer really had a need for them when he stopped posting. Some cursory searches aren't turning up much but if anybernd still happens to have them he's basically a perfect fit for this thread.

The funniest part is they were basically proto-amerimutt and might have played some role in the genesis of that meme. It was linked to le american bear which was from Ylilautua and later migrated to Krautchan then 4chan, similar to how Wojak came from Karachan to Krautchan to 4chan.

This silencing of critics also includes his supporters. In the language learning subreddit r/LearnJapanese, a janny known as Nukemarine kept deleting anyone calling out Matt

You have the lowest member number I've quoted so far (120).

nukemarine... I remember this username many years ago from the koohii forums, which was the forums for the James Heisig "Remembering the Kanji" book series. He seemed like a helpful individual with helpful posts. Sad to hear he became a simp and a reddit mod. What's next, a troon-out?

I'm not going to lie, assuming that it's not complete scam like AJATT Silverspoon

Another oldie. Where's our favorite autistic weeaboo nigger now?

True Polyglots don't learn languages just to show off. They invest their times into discipling themselves for the reward of being able to talk with locals and building up from there. It reminds me of the Urban Exploration trend that has been hijacked by assholes, assholes who milk off this shit absolutely ruin it for me and they're doing the same for language learning as well.
