The Problem With Apu - Designated Shitposting Thread

I don't care what anyone thinks, Apu is fucking hilarious and so is Fisher Stevens from the Short Circuit movies as well as Peter Sellers from The Party.

I didn't even realise Fisher Stevens was a white guy until I saw him in The Brother From Another Planet and realised it was the Short Circuit guy. He was the guy on the subway doing the card trick. And Joe Morton, who played the Brother, also played Miles Dyson in Terminator 2.

Anyway, most convenience stores are run by Indians. This is just a fact of life. Unless you live in lilywhiteland USA you are likely to see Indians at your local 7-11 or gas station food poisoning center.

I haven't watched The Simpsons in years. I tried a few years back and it was like being stuck in the 90s. And not in a good way. I think a lot of people who say they still watch it mainly go for the Tree House of Horror and holiday episodes and skip the rest. And even those are kinda boring now. The show needs to be put to rest already. A fork was stuck in it a long time ago yet everyone refuses to let it be done.

Now that I think about it, this is some Daikari King Mykan level obsession this guy has (or at least close to it). And DKM claims to have nightmares about the time Terra dumped Beast Boy in the original Teen Titans cartoon.

So today, I stumbled across The Problem With Apu. A documentary all about how Apu from The Simpsons is a tool by whitey to keep the Indians down leaving behind a "problematic" impact. "Problem" is literally in the title. This ought to be good.

Leave your thoughts and comments down below.
Oh geez, someone referenced Apu in relation to someone from India?
How dare they! Don't they know that's... quite...

What the fuck is the problem?

Literally, what is the problem here?

Sure, Apu has a rather peculiar way of talking which is used for comedic purposes, but he's a character from a comedy show, so where's the fucking problem. The guy is talking as if using stereotypes for comedic purposes is racist and equates it with blackface. It's a ridiculous hyperbole and anyone worth his salt should just tell him to grow a spine.

And besides, Apu is a really hard-working, polite guy. There's even some social commentary about how highly eductated people might get stuck in menial labour since their degrees aren't aknowledged in 'Murrica or some other similar nonsense - after all, Apu is highly educated and stuck in a dead-end job that he still does to his best ability with a lot of dedication.

It's like the shitstorm about Speedy Gonzales being a racist stereotype for wearing a mexican hat and saying mexican words every now and then.
Both Apu and Gonzales have a lot of positive traits and while the writers do take advantage of stereotypes, it's never malignant and the good and positive aspects of these characters heavily outweight the supposedly negative ones.
Hell, there is more jokes about Apu being a workaholic that gets shot down by Snake Jailbird than him being Indian.

Minorities running convenient stores has been seen over and over for the past few decades at least (I recall Tiny Toon Adventures having an Indian store clerk in an episode involving a character shoplifting).

Seems like people just can't handle jokes anymore, or even laugh. That's just sad.

He's also a ladies' man and does the best with what he's given in life.

Before he debuted, the writers were worried he might come off as offensive. They figured that the trick is to write him like a person. Who would have thought that?
I thought that was the point. I guess some just don't see it.

I wonder what this guy thinks of the Harold and Kumar movies; they're more recent. I honestly wonder why he took so long to make these accusations when the show isn't as relevant as it is now.

wow, great salesmanship.

:powerlevel: I was shown the trailer in my "required to graduate" SJW studies class. Is there anyrhing in the documentary that's more cringeworthy than the end of the trailer when he preempts criticism by going "I know people will tell me 'lol calm down cuck'"? Because that was painful to watch, let alone watch in a class.

This is the synopsis for it on tru tvs website

>Comedian Hari Kondabolu, the creator and star of this feature-length documentary, confronts his long standing “nemesis” Apu Nahasapeemapetilon – better known as the Indian convenience store owner on The Simpsons. Through this comedic cultural exposé, Kondabolu questions how this controversial caricature was created, burrowed its way into the hearts and minds of Americans and continues to exist – intact – twenty-eight years later.

On a side note after Hari seems to belong to those group of "comedians" that think "oh, look how racist that is, isn't that so racist you guys" is funny.
