I forgot to mention, if I'm not mistaken The Sims 5 will be released this year?
It's strange that it took EA a whole decade to come up with a sequel of the game. The previous ones didn't have such big gaps between them, only 4-5 years.

They still haven't announced a release date for Project Rene, which may not even be The Sims 5, and maybe just a spin-off, given that it will be Free-to-play (with the usual microtransaction infestation), will have online gameplay, and TS4 will STILL get updates and DLC, even after Project Rene's release.

As for a REAL Sims 5, given that EA burned away all of their talent, don't expect one to come out ever, sadly.

Apparently there has been malware discovered in some mods.

Well when you download cc, mods or any kind of free content there's always the risk of getting malware. For some reason I never got any viruses in all these years downloading shit.
I like to be paranoid so I have the suspicion some creators will add malware in their content on purpose to force people to use their patreons instead of third-party sites like The Sims Resource and Mod The Sims.

Yeah, I've never gotten malware either. I should have explained in the post, but it was pretty late and I just wanted to share the information. What's happened is that a creator on the Sims Resource was hacked, and there are specific mods that were posted and later found to have malware.

When I get home from work, I'll edit the post to add the specific info for anyone who doesn't want to watch the video.

EA's definition of "celebration" for The Sims's 24th anniversary, is a challenge, and is clearly done to promote the EA Discord:

And I like how they have the "not-subtle at all" trying to push for sales for DLCs to do some of those said challenges.

Expanding on this because this is kinda of funny

There's a huge Reddit post (archive) that's been updated daily with information on this virus with lots of unnecessary histrionics inserted. It has some of overlap with the Minecraft mod situation last year, in that it was first noticed on Curseforge and that famous mods were compromised. A sex cult mod was also involved lol. Apparently the virus has existed since August 9th 2023, but was only just discovered in Sims mod files on February 7th of this year. It supposedly works by triggering the game to download and execute a malicious file. Apparently this all happened because staff on a modding website was "tricked" into approving a file with malicious code without reviewing it first. The virus apparently affects Discord which is what these people seem to be the most worried about.

lol
lmfao

CC in Sims 3 was prone to bugs that would corrupt your game AND all the CC that you had installed, like the Girl Doll Dressed and Horse Body CC.
Custom content for The Sims was notoriously buggy, as were the games themselves (TS2 was also susceptible to corruption), but EA has outdone themselves and now Sims 4 CC is prone to ACTUAL FUCKING MALICIOUS RCE EXPLOITS. :story:

Seriously, how fucking hard is it to make a custom content system that is properly sandboxed so shit like this cannot happen in the first place? Or at the very least limit the amount of shit you can do with the code. It looks like .ts4script files are just pure Python code with no restriction on what the code can do, so you can do fucking filesystem operations through a Sims 4 mod. This is incredibly incompetent and EA has no excuse like Minecraft mods where everything is Java code. They could've used Lua, they could've done anything to avoid this from happening, but they didn't.

This is pretty simple code, and Python is a simple language, so even though I can't code in Python for shit I can see what it's doing. First it imports libraries needed to run the malicious code and keep it hidden away in a primitive way, by making it all temporary so it'll delete itself when it's done and so that it runs hidden. Then it sets up a temporary Batch file which it populates with four basic commands, a useless echo command, a curl command which downloads the actual payload, runs it then quits. Then the Python script runs the batch script hidden so it does all of it without being seen.

This is a very fucking primitive attack, and all that had to be done to stop this from happening is to restrict Sims 4's Python from using libraries that can run executables and do anything that it doesn't need to do for a fucking Sims 4 mod.

Also it's nice that Discord also acts as a benevolent host of malicious software through it's attachment system that has zero user access control, and they take zero precautions to fight it. Wouldn't be surprised if nonces also use it to distribute child porn that way with Discord doing fuck all to stop them. Make a server with no one in it, attach a shitton of illegal material in it and distribute the Discord CDN links.

EA will be adding Vitiligo to TS4, in an SDX Drop tomorrow:

It's getting to the point that we have to start naming what disability/minority/oppressed thing that hasn't been added to TS4 yet.

Don't really see the point in them adding this considering CC creators have created literally hundreds of vitiligo skin overlays already.

Also, I've always wondered why these activist types are so obsessed with representing vitiligo specifically. I guess it's a flaw unique and special enough for bleeding hearts to feel bad for them, without it damaging their facial structures in any real way that would make them stop being 'beautiful, but unfortunate,' and start being 'creepy' or 'ugly.' A beautiful woman with a pigment disorder looks better on a magazine cover than most people with disabilities would, I suppose. Anyways...

Waiting patiently for the hecking beautiful and inspirational Sims 4 acid attack survivor update!

I've just encountered some sad news from last month.

Rebecah Benjamin, a well-known and respected Sims modder that made some technically impressive mods for Sims 2, passed away on January 11 2024 at 71 years old.

Her channel where she showed off her mods: https://www.youtube.com/@rebecaha/videos

She also made the infamous Girl Doll Dressed mod, which due to a small mistake and EA's incompetence caused a ton of trouble with game file corruption, and got her tons of undeserved hate for something that was ultimately EA's fault.

EA has done this for a looooong time lol. Always trying to whisk something away from the community. Creativity, wallets and the community's sanity.

May she rest in peace. Haven't heard of her before, but her mods do look great.

Considering that she, some woman from Michigan in her 50's, was making Sims 2 CC with custom meshes, animations and behaviors four years after the game's release, they were very impressive.

Mods like these took massive effort to do, and they were always my favorite type of mods for The Sims. My massive collection of CC for Sims 1 includes a lot of cool things I've amassed over the years.

A countertop tall fridge you can use it's surface for other appliances, teleporters, a Sim cloning machine, usable cars, fridges, microwaves, ovens and grills with custom food items, computers from which you can order items to be delivered or work from home, usable cellphones, water coolers, folding beds, working bunk beds and so much more, all in that weird isometric world with 3D Sims and 2D objects. Mods like these will always be the pinnacle of Sims modding for me. My collections for Sims 2 and Sims 3 are respectively smaller, but they still have plenty of unique items, many of which are long gone from the web.

Gave the trailer a few watches and my reaction was... meh. I've paid way less for point-and-clickers that engage me a ton more. Like, sure, cool-ish pack? In a vacuum it's okay, because in a vacuum you don't consider the furniture an RoM rerun and don't consider the forced-in CAS outfits that exist to justify it being a Stuff Pack. I sincerely wish they slash the price of literally everything by half at this point though, it seems those original prices exist just to be hiked up back to on release times since they're on sale quite often.

It's constantly always so saddening that they seem to miss their chance at delivering something people may want, like a pack they beg for across years. It's evident they consider it a hassle to create something which might not be able to use previously-developed animations and meshes. Crystal Creation yoinks animations from Get To Work, yoinks aesthetics from RoM, yoinks the idea of creating CAS/BB items from Nifty Knitting. It stays within the niche of a girly jewellery maker instead of going beyond to encompass general metalworking, just like Horse Ranch only stuck to vomitously stereotypical cowboy aesthetics instead of simultaneously accommodating British horse-riding.

It's all so tiresome.

I wonder how many sims 4 players have completely pirated games, since a bunch of easy to get, high quality pirated versions of it exist.

I mean, its costs fucking thousands to get the complete experience in an eh life simulation game, and many players are already playing with a bunch of mods and cc they got of the internet anyways.

In fact, the sims 4 is so broken that illegal versions often work better, sometimes the official game doesn't even work at all bc EA app has problems

I don't pirate any of my games except for the sims, because its ridiculously overpriced and not even that good, but also bc its just so easy compared to other games. Fitgirl usually has their download updated within a day, too.

On the other hand, a lot of sims players are girls not good with computers who spend 2000 bucks on this shit, immediately buying new packs when they come out and then crying about them sucking, every single time, probably singlehandedly funding 'maxis'.

They're probably the same type of people to buy 10 slightly different variations of the same Taylor Swift albums, its the ultimate consoomer game.

At least Ralph doesn't have to suffer more torment over another overpriced shitty stuff pack from the hands of Clit Bazinga.

I think the vast majority of sim players pirate the game. Maybe the ones who buy it are mostly Americans who can allow themselves to spend 40 dollars. But in other countries that's a lot of money, so pirating video games and other media isn't frowned upon.
The ones who buy and then complain are a "vocal minority", just like the ones that bitch on Reddit about lack of skin tones and disabilities.
The ones who pirate or don't give a shit about inclusivity keep quiet.
