Aren't they announcing the Sims 4 tomorrow or something?
GOD DAMN IT.
I would be excited, if not for the fact that it's guaranteed to contain always-online DRM. The last time I tried to install TS3, I got bombarded with in-game popups for shop mode, at which point I said fuck it EA ruined this game forever.
Yeah, it can get really annoying. I remember when I first installed it on my old laptop, there was none of this online crap, but now, it's inescapable. Even then, you could probably get better furniture from simply modding the game.
Yeah, it's hard not to get the impression that EA is nickel-and-diming consumers at every chance they get. Take Fast Lane Scam Pack for example... you get around 30 reskinned automotive items functionally identical with those in the base game. The saddest thing is that Fresh-Prince-Creations' car mods are godtier by comparison, and most of all, FREE. I mean, it's not like there's any new functionality in the cars either. In TS2 you could sit in the car, turn on the radio, have backseat Woohoo, even watch it park in the driveway which I thought was amazing given engine limitations. Cars in TS3 do none of that, they basically just disappear into a hammerspace inventory after a really quick and forgettable ride around town. I'm nitpicking, but it feels TS3 has none of the little things. We didn't get hot tubs until expansion 3, diving boards until expansion 8.
Compare that shit to Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony, priced the same as 30 Item "Stuff Packs" of TS3 and including at least 30 times the amount of content. You get a badass new protagonist, new vehicles, a 10+ hour storyline, new side-missions, new safehouses, new radio stations, fucking tanks and parachutes, a golden helicopter that shoots missiles, and the ability to use said helicopter in new multiplayer modes. That is what you call an expansion pack, ladies and gentlemen. EA's incessant "expansion packs" (I believe we're up to 10 now for TS3) go for twice the price of TBOGT to give you simple shit like diving boards they purposefully left out of TS3 base...
Which is why I am never touching any EA product ever again. I heard they recently beat out Bank of America for Consumerist Magazine's "Worst Company In America" award... for
the second year in a row.
See: EA In a Nutshell (YouTube link because I can't figure out how to embed videos here, if such a thing is possible.)
I must say, this has been some rather introspective and inappropriate venting.
