Necroing the shit out of this thread because I'm playing the Sims 2.

as one could tell by my avatar, i do fancy in the sims 4 a little, though mostly it's in create a sim instead of actually playing the game because im shit at making houses in it. the sims 4 is my second most played game next to the sims 3 with almost 360 hours in it. sims 4 has 325 hours to clarify. i own almost all the expansions for the sims 3 and ive only got 3 dlc for the sims 4.
also i did try playing the sims 2 when i got that ultimate collection, but it never saved any of my games so i never played it since.

See, the Sims 3 ran like garbage, but it had some good ideas that I really like. The Sims 4 runs like a hot knife through butter and there are almost no good ideas (key word being "almost"). So I go with the middle ground and still play Sims 2 which runs alright and has a lot of good ideas.

I still can't believe they took away Create a Style. It was the biggest upgrade they created for the franchise, getting rid of it is a humongous step back. I'm also not a fan of how they sucked up to Tumblr by making transtrenders createable in Sims 4. But I suppose it makes it easier to create rat king cows so there's that at least.

Speaking of Sims, was anyone around back when the Exchanges for TS1, 2, and 3 were a thing? The amount of cringy stories posted on the Exchange were scary, but made for some real laughs if you were interested in those trainwrecks. Those would also probably rival some of the awful fanfiction out there, i.e. the ones on the Fanfiction Horror thread here. It's sad that EA did away with them once the lifecycles of each game past, and TS4, as far as I know, does not have a place to upload stories or videos.

Examples of such included all of the various rape, teen pregnancy, and cancer stories that were on the TS2 Exchange. EA "fixed" that with TS3's Exchange by implementing a word filter, and yes the word "rape" was obviously filtered out. However, they did add their own level of depravity by allowing players to also upload videos, as well as providing some pre-made pictures and stories for making stories and videos. The highlight were the pre-made pictures and video of a dark-skinned teenage girl, nicknamed by various Sims sites as the "Blue Sweater Girl". A lot of people decided to be lazy and make stories and videos just of that said Blue Sweater Girl, making her become "pregnant", "get cancer", and I think she was "murdered" in at least one story.

I never looked at the TS1 Exchange, so I don't know if that had those same deprave stories that the TS2 and 3 Exchanges had.

And again, the lack of a place to upload stories and video was one of the many letdowns of TS4, and their Gallery feature could have easily allowed for this, but the devs chose not to utilize it for storytelling.

yeah i remember a lot of them. some were all right, others were quite shitty....a lot were quite shitty.

The Sims was always fun.

I made a 'serial killer' sim, which I would build 4 walls around any neighbor that would come by and let them die.

Also recreated The Young Ones as sims.

Good times.

Create A Style was wonderful. It's a shame that Sims 3 ran like a paraplegic through a minefield on my computer because that was honestly a great feature.

I definitely prefer Sims 2 and Sims 1 since they have considerably more depth and that added childhood nostalgia factor, but 4 is okay enough (haven't played 3 enough to really judge lol, but my sister likes it a lot). I'm not too fussed about TS4 since I got it for like 60% off anyway. I'm waiting for all the expansions and stuff to go for at least half price before I buy them though - I got the 3 big expansions as well as 2 game packs and 2 stuff packs back when they were on basically the only decent expansion sale I've seen TS4 have, but I haven't seen anything else go past 25% yet.

I got ReShade for Sims 4 and now I can't live without it since the original game just looks so grey and dull when you compare it to the vibrant colours of the Cinematic preset that I use most of the time when playing.

Also there's a monochrome preset called Newspaper that's my second favourite since I can dress up all my sims in vintage clothing and pretend they're in a black and white movie. The shaders somehow made the game more fun, which is weird since I got that "ultra-realistic" lighting mod for the Sims 2 as well and besides going "ooooh pretty!" it hasn't really improved my game experience in any meaningful way.

((I do turn the depth of field off though since it blurs the UI and is pretty much just there for pretty screenshots))

You know the Rosebud code from the first Sims?

I discovered a glitch to make the cheat work even more! by making a typo with the semicolons and holding Enter, just watch your cash go up and build your dream house with all the Super Toilets, Heart Beds for Sex and Kiddie Playgrounds and Egg-Shaped chairs as you wish.

Don't forget your job though, moving up in your Careers was what it was all about for me.

Yeah, I LOVED the Sims back then. Must've been because I always had a crap social life, why not just simulate one for yourself?:P

I never liked or really tried the second or following installments, but I did get Sims Busting Out for Gamecube, and I rather enjoyed it.

I tried to recreate Chris and Barb once. They did jack shit and it was boring. So yeah, it was pretty accurate.

I did this too but for whatever the fuck reason I had Liquid Chris and Kacey living with them. Chris's room was obviously all filled with Childrens toys and dirty shit.

Maybe I also had "Bodge" living with them, a sloppy guy who had no stats and was always wearing those lazy boy underwear suit.
