Sims 2? Why play that, when Sims 3 is superior in every aspect and makes Sims 2 completely obsolete?
Not at all, holy shit. If you like an open world, moodlets, collecting stuff ingame and insane amounts of choice from the jump in what colour and texture everything can have, Sims 3 will be your game. If you like the Wants and Fears system, details in the little things and using or making your own custom terrains for your own neighborhoods (and your own vacation spots, university campuses), Sims 2 will be your game. Both have their own pros and cons, they're both better than Sims 4 and always will be, but which one you like best will hinge heavily on preferences.

1 is at least different and unique in some aspects to be worth a play today. Sims 2? Why play that, when Sims 3 is superior in every aspect and makes Sims 2 completely obsolete?
Ladies and gentlemen, the absolute worst take I've ever seen about sims in this site. Saying it as someone who likes 2 AND 3.

Sims 1 is non-stop work and the world doesn't even progress around you while you slave away. It's like the worst of being a wagecuck with none of the 'reward' of at least everyone else growing older and falling in love and what not. Even Sims 2 has a lot of details while lacking pretty neglected qualities of life in 3 and 4.

I'll still say the battlepass of S4 is a great idea, however too late and in too social media-bloated a game already. It's honestly a great way to introduce the 'missions' of the console Sims games. "Okay, choose career, get a pet, breed, uh now what. 'Romance two people at once', oh okay I can do that".

are the patches even fixing anything noteworthy?
Yes! They're making the game worse.

Classic EA.

Baffles me how people are still stupid enough to buy this. Piracy isn't even crossing their minds despite basic features of the game being so broken that not even the YouTubers glazing this slop can avoid showcasing them in playthroughs or reviews. Then again, the audience for this series is so basic that I guess they think piracy is equivalent to grand larceny, so I shouldn't really be surprised. :story:

It fucking sucks that they didn't release a Sims 3 Legacy Edition, I'd have liked to own all 3 because OG Sims 3 actually does run like shit on modern systems no matter what you do.

Sadly, because EA's still making money off of DLC sales and TS3 Store Sales still, it won't happen. Plus with how they botched the TS1 and TS2 Legacy Editions, a TS3 one would be even more of a mess.

And The Sims 4 is already breaking down in terms of peformance with the decade amount of DLCs and spaghetti code.

Unfortunately it would be the same if EAxis today were to try and "fix" it. You'll just have to eat shit, jump through hoops of Nraas mods, AwesomeMod and SmoothPatch to get it somewhat playable. All the lag you're experiencing is just heaps of spaghetti code failing to run the game logic well. Sims 3 is just fundamentally broken and EAxis wouldn't help.

When I can actually get past the first load screen (which sometimes just says fuck you to me and decides to never end), the SmoothPatch actually stops me from not only crashing most of the time but also makes things not lag so much. With it and a little prayer, I consider TS3 like 85% playable on my modern system.

Once again modders do more for the betterment of the franchise than EA.

I still find it amazing they've heated up it's corpse and put it out for sale again. In 2014 they gave away the ultimate collection for free to get people to use EA Origin.
They didn't just reheat it. They beat it with a hammer first too.

The free release on Origin years ago worked well with only a few glitches, all of which were pretty easily fixable. Now? Good luck playing it for 30 minutes without either/or a game breaking bug or crash.
