I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

So it's good to waste everybody's time and money with this kind of bullshit to own the libs?

Omar has dumb views, but having dumb opinions and criticizing Israel aren't impeachable offenses. Nor is being Muslim or criticizing Trump.

If you want full disclosure, I like it because its pointless posturing aimed at someone I'm not particularly fond of, so I approve of it in the same way I approve of "Hollywood Action Movie #3000: More Cars Explode" being made; mostly apathetic overall but it will be done with or without my approval, so I may as well extract some mild amusement from it as it happens.

In a perfect world, Congress would only do things that mattered, and Hollywood wouldn't exist, and I would have a library the size of the Louvre, but we don't live in a perfect world, so I'm laughing at retards on the internet instead and Congress is passing pointless resolutions condemning freshmen congresswomen for being a public nuisance. C'est la vie.

This tactic will surely get people to like Ilhan Omar :optimistic:

If any one of these cocksuckers would focus on doing what we hired them to do, I might not fantasize about all 535 of them getting ebola.

Does she hold American citizenship? Sure seems to.

Does she stand for and embody a single American ideal? Naw.

Her citizenship is on shaky legal grounds as well since she allegedly got it by claiming her brother as a spouse which would be fraud, so there's a decent chance she doesn't even have that going for her.

Ocasio-Cortez warns that melting glaciers could release ancient diseases

https://www.foxnews.com/category/us/environment/climate-change
Climate Changecould unleash a variety of diseases that the modern world is unprepared to deal with, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., claimed on Tuesday.

The freshman congresswoman -- and architect of the ambitious "Green New Deal" -- took to Instagram to express how worried she is about the specter of climate change. During a live video session, she argued that warming would melt glaciers and create the potential for new diseases infecting human populations.

"Scientists fear that there's a potential that a lot of diseases could escape these melted glaciers, things that were frozen for thousands of years, and that they’re going to get into our water," she said, "and that humans could contract them, and they are going to be diseases that are thousands of years old that have vectors that we are not prepared for, that we have never seen."

Ocasio-Cortez has made headlines since taking office in part by pushing bold policy proposals that many deemed unrealistic. During her Tuesday video, she suggested the U.S. had no choice but to take drastic action on climate change.

The alternative to large-scale solutions, the New Yorker said, was higher costs and people dying from climate change's impact.

"We need to start getting comfortable with how extreme the problem is," she said, "because only until we accept ... how bad climate change is and how bad it can be for our children's lives, are we going to be comfortable pursuing really big solutions."

The "Green New Deal" seeks to reach net-zero carbon emissions within just decades -- something conservative studies have said would entail astronomical costs.

"We're not trying to end cows and plane travel, but we need to change our lives," she said.

She went on to call for an end to single-use plastic but acknowledged that wasn't related to climate change.

"But it is related to our food supply and how we live," she said.

AOC suggests ‘informed’ millennials are first generation to protest government, forgets about the ‘60s

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezmade some bold claims in her latest Instagram Live video, suggesting millennials and Generation Z are better "informed" and more well-versed in history than past generations — and, apparently forgetting about the turbulent '60s, are the first "willing to go to the streets" and challenge their government.

The New York Democratic congresswoman, who at 29 is a millennial herself, in a video that streamed live Tuesday night described how she thinks today’s young people are surpassing past generations.

“I think young people are more informed and dynamic than their predecessors,” she said.

The freshman congresswoman then patted young Americans on the back for their activism, implying this is a new development for American political engagement.

“I think this new generation is very profound, and very strong, and very brave, because they’re actually willing to go to the streets,” she said. “Previous generations have just assumed that government’s got it.”

Of course, this overlooks perhaps the most turbulent period in modern American history, the 1960s, which was marked by political protests over the Vietnam War, civil rights and more.

Months after the decade began, protesters in San Francisco demonstrated against the House Un-American Activities Committee for their investigations of suspected Communists. Protesters were arrested as police turned firehoses on them on what became known as “Black Friday.”

The civil rights movement featured protests from black Americans and their allies, which helped lead to passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The Vietnam War inspired massive demonstrations, including at the 1968 Democratic Convention. Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets of Chicago that summer, and hundreds were injured in violent clashes with police and the National Guard.

Of course, political protest existed before the 1960s, with notable examples including the women’s suffrage movement and the Boston Tea Party.

Prior to making her statement about previous generations’ complacency, Ocasio-Cortez lauded her own generation by saying, “They actually take time to read and understand our history, the history of the labor movement, history of civil rights, history of economics, history of the United States, history of colonialism, and they’re not afraid to have those conversations.”

Baby Boomers may take exception to Ocasio-Cortez's slight, especially given studies that indicate a lack of knowledge millennials have when it comes to history. An April 2019 study by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany revealed that two-thirds of millennials polled were not familiar with Auschwitz, and 22 percent said they either had not heard of or were not sure if they had heard of the Holocaust.

That is literally the plot of an x-files episode. Holy shit.

The "brother" thing came into play after she became a citizen and was far more likely a ploy to get him citizenship. If he really was her brother, she almost definitely could have sponsored him without marrying him, so I'm more inclined to believe she entered a sham marriage with a random, not that I like defending that dumb asshole. I doubt citizens can have their citizenship stripped for breaking immigration laws, but I won't cry if her first legal husband loses his citizenship due to fraud.

OK no really, what is going on here. Why does the Mooch think switching gears to pretend to embrace TDS over The Squad will earn him any favors?

That’s an easy one... Scaramuchi was before this best known for being a total joke. He managed to screw up so grandly, that he only lasted 10 days in the White House.

(A position that he had more or less sacrificed his marriage to get!)

Mooch thinks that going full TDS might be his way to redemption. That he can go from being an ancient joke on late night talk shows to... Well something better at least.

He might have gotten the impression that it’s working from the fact that journalists are suddenly calling him back. Something that wouldn’t have happened 6 months ago.

That may be true for her personally but she sure doesn't want anyone to bring up the rampant homophobia and anti-feminist attitudes in the Somali community she's so proud of. As far as people like her are concerned only white people need be responsible for inclusivity.

Can confirm.
Source: Lived close to Somalis for years.

All jokes aside, I don’t really have anything against blacks or browns. (And everyone likes chinks, obviously!)

But Somalis? Shiaaat, that’s probably the one exception.

Living close to them for just a week would instantly make it obvious why their country is such a dysfunctional shithole.

No sense of civic pride or communal anything. I’ve literally lost track of all the time I’ve seen them throw trash (including goddamn used diapers!) off the side of a balcony. The Somali kids would pull fire alarms at least once a week, which would cost the building a 2000$ fine to pay for sending a fire truck and 6 firefighters out to investigate/turn it off. But who cares, whitey will pay, amirite?

The women all stay at home with their 5+ kids. On a rare occasion one of them will show some engagement and bring her kids to the playground. Much of the time they’ll just let their kids roam and do whatever the fuck they want though, which usually includes a 9 year old trying to be in charge of 4 kids age 3 and up.

The men all seem to spend their time in coffee shops, chewing khat, drinking coffee, playing cards and talking.
Oddly enough they all seemed to treat hanging out in a coffee shop as their job. You’re unemployed motherfuckers! If you can’t be bothered looking for a job or getting a hobby, at least play with your kids or help them do their homework or something! Nope! They’d show up at 9 in the morning in the coffee shop and stay there till 5 or 6. Occasionally coming back after dinner too.

Hardly any of them spoke any English of course, despite having arrived as refugees in the 90ies or 2000’s.

I’d occasionally try to have a conversation with the few that did speak a little English. The conversation would usually revolve around how much their new country sucked. Once they got to know and trust me a little, they’d invariably start on... “Yehud!” And spin wild conspiracy theories about how Jews control X and Hillary (or any other politician) really is a Jew.

And don’t even get me started on the sad excuse for a gang their teenage kids would start. Complete with amateur-hour dope slinging, and occasional violence/shootings.

Sorry for dragging the thread off topic, but you’re absolutely right. As awful as Ilhan Omar is, she’s very representative of the shit-tier community she comes from.

TLDR: Somalis, never again.

That is a logical explanation, but you forget one salient detail; She's a Somalian. Planning shit out isn't their strong suit. Or common sense for that matter.

"Informed millennial" is an oxymoron.
