The Square Enix Griefing Thread

Do you mean because they'd fuck up a AAA remake, or HD-2D is just better on it's own merits for some reason?

But yeah, it should be last of all their remakes. That or SMRPG (which probably won't happen at all).
Both actually, AAA is hot garbage and HD2D is the best thing squenix has done since fixing the Dragon Quest localizations with VIII. Bahamut Lagoon, Treasure of Rundas, Terranigma, all of these need to go before Chrono Trigger to maximize the skill of the people involved and I do not mind waiting one bit.

SMRPG is a pipe dream but with Nintendo and SE having a much stronger business relationship than they've had in decades I wouldn't write it off completely. It just may take another Paper Mario bombing to convince the suits to get to work reviving a real game.

I mean Live a Live nailed it in my book.

Treasure of the Rudras I am absolutely not seeing happen though, no way no how, even though it badly needs something other than a rom translation.

Augh! God no.

There are no developers in existence that can re-release Chrono Trigger and not completely fuck it up.
"But wat if we turn it into an NFT?"

Square can't do dick with Parasite Eve as they lost the rights to the license (the video game is actually a sequel to the original novel, which has a Japanese live-action film adaptation). That's why The Third Birthday was called that and not Parasite Eve 3. And after that game flopped, I doubt Square Enix will ever do anything with the license again.
Id bet money they'll bring Aya brea back in another game like KH. The secret ending of 3rd birthday set's up that she's still alive somehow and Nomura wanted to bring her in as early as KH1.

I just want a remake/remaster of either Chrono Trigger or Parasite Eve. Sick of this Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts bs.
More likely to get a sequel at this rate.

Im afraid you'll have to deal a bit more with FF at least.

Marle is in FF7 remake and nobody noticed.

AAA is pretty bad and has been since PS3, but if they somehow wouldn't fuck it up I think Chrono Trigger could only benefit from the better production values of something like FF16 or even DQ11 (is that closer to AA?). I know it'd be doomed because of how things are now, but just ideally, like by some miracle it wasn't shit.

Maybe Square could let Tose handle it instead, World of Final Fantasy was surprisingly good and felt like more passion went into it than what Square usually makes.

With the M&L series dead I was hoping that would improve the odds of a SMRPG remake or sequel, but then Ubisoft shit out those horrid Rabids games to fill the void. Fucking Ubisoft. The only thing I want from them is another 2D Rayman and Child of Light 2.

Uh, couldn't that Marle just be a woman named Marle who has nothing to do with Chrono Trigger?

EDIT: Yeah, it's not the same.

The Marle in Chrono Trigger is マール, while the Marle in FF7 is マーレ. If they were meant to be a reference I'd say their names would be the same.
Sounds like someone tried to force a reference, マーレ is closer to Marie.

DQ is AA that technically leans to AAA due to the Japanese popularity, but its always been good about handling its budget despite the frequent delays in the 2D era. Tose just wrapped up Treasures so, baring a big dlc set, they would be free for a project and have a good working relationship with squenix. I'm glad I never touched rabbids at all, not even during the wiitard years.

I tried the first Mario & Rabbids game in desperation for a new Mario RPG. The story is forgettable nonsense and the characterization for the Mario cast is off (they're oddly flat). Even if the Rabbids were removed it wouldn't have been very good. Gameplay is just X-Com but in very boringly designed stages. I'm not a fan of X-Com's battle system to begin with but at least its stage design is passable in those games.

And yeah, that's not actually Chrono Trigger's Marle. That's too bad, it'd be a cool cameo. Secret of Evermore had one for Cecil who mentions Rosa when you speak to him. I like that kind of stuff, but Square rarely seems to do it.

There was a comment on that video that inspired me to make a dumb copypasta though:

You will never be a real protagonist. You have no charm, you have no wit, you have a big sword but no skills. You are a glorified side character twisted by marketing and design into a crude mockery of gaming’s perfection.

All the “popularity” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your creators are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “fans” laugh at your ridiculous appearance behind closed doors. Gamers are utterly repulsed by you. Dozens of years of industry evolution have allowed gamers to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even glorified side characters who “pass” look uncanny and unnatural to a gamer. Your hair structure is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a drunk gamer home with you, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he gets a sight of your malformed, ridiculous sword equipped.

You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.
Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss of the lifestream. Your creators will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you with a headstone marked with your real character role, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a side character is buried there. Your body will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a skeleton that is unmistakably that of a side character.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

There's enough there to raise eyebrow's. She later on mentions a man she's been waiting a long time for and gives some earrings that made me think.

Other than NFTs and killing great games with shit practices, the thing that chaps my ass the most about SE is how Dragon Quest keeps getting all of the fun, interesting side games, where-as FF is lucky to get a shockingly good BR, or a Soulslike.

Ya know, the franchise carrying the entire company, that has been since the beginning, no, that can eat shit, no one wants to find cool relics from those games, or have an actually amazing minecraft clone set in Corneilia. Fuck you, take the same fucking enemies we've been using for 30 years, set to the same music, with the same plot, and the same character design with the same shit ass jokes.

Fuck Enix, it's the cancer killing Square.

That character is just trying to push Cloud and Tifa together. There is no similar accessory in Chrono Trigger.

Now, if they coughed up a weird pendant that happened to give you full status immunity like a ribbon, there'd be something there.

I wouldn't say that Final Fantasy is carrying the whole company with how 15 failed to break even (directors don't get fired if a game is successful) and 7R didn't sell as many copies as that. SaGa and Mana were revived for a reason after all. We got fried chicken derby 3 and a remake of Tactics seems inevitable, the problem is that SE seems hell bent on whoring FF out as the mobage franchise instead of concentrating on real spin offs beyond the aforementioned.

Builders 2 really is amazing though, I strongly recommend that game to everyone even if they typically dislike crafting games.

I still can’t understand their insistence on making XV a franchise despite being an unproven game. Them cancelling the DLCs for the game pissed off many of their fans, and that movie they made might have lost then a lot of money.
