Now that Stan Twitter is fading in importance (due to the community being predominantly liberal), the Swiftie fanbase (and many other pop fanbases) is more fragmented. What began on MySpace, then shifted to Tumblr, then Twitter, is now fragmented between what remains of Stan Twitter, attempts to rebuild it on BlueSky, various Discord groups, various forums (ATRL, bcharts), reddit... Tik Tok despite still being popular, is not oriented towards text content which I think is still important for these sorts of fandoms to thrive. There's a Youtube community too, but even though you can make long comments under fan videos, the platform doesn't really facilitate engaging with other commenters - you can't follow commenters and have their comments show up on your feed, message them or search through their post history, you only follow video creators.
Will the Swiftie cult die down, or will it re-emerge elsewhere?
Reddit is one candidate.
During the earlier days of Reddit (late 00s-mid 10s), most of the Hollywood starlets reddit fandoms were claimed by pedo coomers. That goes for Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Miranda Cosgrove, basically all of them were counting down when they'd turn 18 and even with the adult stars like Katy Perry, the content was almost exclusively reposting photos and coom posting.
Maybe it's because Taylor Swift was somewhat outside the Disney/Nickelodeon/Hollywood sphere when she got started in country but her subreddit was an exception to that rule and got claimed by some autistic simp who limited picture reposts to one day a week and banned coom posting. By the mid-2010s r/taylorswift had grown larger than the other pop girl subreddits. It was mostly autistic simps but they kept it PG which made it a welcoming place for cupcake fangirls fleeing the now porn-ridden Tumblr and the intensity of Stan Twitter, resulting in a predominantly female demographic by the late 2010s.
Besides r/TaylorSwift, other major related subreddits
r/YouBelongWithMemes - Taylor Swift memes, about as funny as you'd expect coming from girls and autistic simps
r/SwiftlyNeutral - an attempt by Swifties to leave the cult where it is it more acceptably to say you don't like the smell of her farts, but it has gradually become taken back over by committed fans
r/taylorandtravis - for Swifties shipping Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
r/travisandtaylor - Taylor Swift snark sub
Other communities
Popjustice - older (Millenials typical) pop fans, mostly SJWs who prefer indie artists like Ethel Cain and Janelle Monae and like to snark on Taylor and Swifties, although they're not as snarky as they were in 2016-2019.
https://atrl.net/ - forum for gay pop stans, used to be a no holds barred shit-flinging mess fighting over why their fave is the most impactful and why the other popstars are all brainless cracked hags and flops, but moderation in the past years has made it less entertaining
https://pulsemusic.proboards.com/ - mostly boring forum for pop fans, a lot of them obsessed with chart stats
Some notable unhinged behaviour from Swifties included trying to force Taylor Swift to break up with Matty Healy for being a racist misogynist (ie they discovered he has some old edgy comments that are in existence online). She wound up breaking up with him soon after, seemingly for her own reasons, but you can't help but wonder if she would have been willing to put up with the pressure from fans.
At least some her fans recognize how cringe that was
Of course Taylor did what she always does, and wrote a song about it.
I'll tell you something right now
I'd rather burn my whole life down
Than listen to one more second of all this bitchin' and moanin'
I'll tell you something 'bout my good name
It's mine alone to disgrace
I don't cater to all these vipers dressed in empath's clothing
God save the most judgmental creeps
Who say they want what's best for me
Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I'll never see
Thinkin' it can change the beat
Of my heart when he touches me
Swifties were also freaking out about Taylor being friendly with fellow Chiefs WAG Brittany Mahomes due to seemingly being a Trump supporter.
Swifties talking about how they cut themselves off from 80% of their family for being Trump supporters so if they can do it, so can Taylor.
(Taylor father, Scott Swift, who put a tonne of time and money into getting her career started, is likely a Republican, a few years ago he posted on Facebook about doing his taxes and filling in the question about dependents with something along the lines of "yes - 20 million illegal aliens and 10 million criminals". He privated his Facebook account before that post got too much public attention. Anyhow, Taylor is still fairly close to him despite their political differences)
