I get motion sickness pretty easily so I don't see myself getting a VR headset, but I find it fascinating to see how much progress they're making with this stuff lately. My favourite streamer got a valve index and you can definitely see the improvements with Half life alyx compared to some older VR titles.

You can always try to find ways to get your VR legs. I still get it from time to time, but I think it's a easy problem to solve

There's been this thought in the back of my mind that I'd like to get an Index. I have a Vive, so technically I could just spend $600 for the upgraded headset, but I'd want to see the improvements in person though.

I used to rarely use VR, since the headset kept having issues, but those issues have since been resolved (turns out that leaving it plugged in at all times fucks a bunch of things up) and I've been picking at things here and there. Smoking weed and playing Polybius VR kind of changed my life...

Planning on getting a Oculus Rift S from a recommendation on another thread, but the things are sold out everywhere. Apparently a load dropped on Amazon an hour ago and were bo(t)ught in seconds.

Wouldn't a Oculus Quest be a good choice these days? At first it seemed like a dumb product but the more I learned about it the more it made absolute sense. It works wirelessly like the Go or tethered like the Rift.

Quest is neat but as far as I've seen tethered performance isn't great, if someone specifically wants PCVR experiences the Rift would be a better deal.

Have an HTC Vive and a Quest. I mostly play Switch, but the Quest is pretty fun for a couple games (I mostly play boring walking simulators in it because that’s the only thing I’m really into VR for)

I'm fine with motion sickness, but vertigo in any context in VR is a serious headfrick.

VR will at least increase while this is getting its ting on

Many kids under the age of 10 aren't going to understand whats going on.

You can get used to extreme movement in VR no problem. It does depend on the context of the game itself oddly enough though. Like I can play Serious Sam VR with full locomotion no problem, but a EfCW port makes me wanna barf due to how the mp40 is shaded

Google Earth VR is honestly a somewhat emotional experience, especially at human-scale. Just the idea that you can explore the entire world (mostly 3d rendered with varying qualities) is kind of amazing. I've used it to find new bike trails, look for alternate routes when travelling, and heading back to my childhood home on the other side of the country. I know you can do all of this in regular Google Earth, but VR makes it special.

I just bought a Odyssey+ the other day, because I figured if I can’t go to concerts or anything, I can bring them to me. Right now my graphics card is apparently too potato to run anything for more than 15 minutes without crashing, but I have one on the way.

But I have to say, I tried Beatsaber last night, and even though it hard-crashed every 3 songs, it was still such an amazing experience that I kept at it for nearly an hour. Being able to experience songs that I liked from other rhythm games in a way that actually made me feel cool while looking like a complete idiot was such an awesome experience.

I was extremely skeptical about VR back when it first came out, but holy shit did this just blow any skepticism away. I am like tangibly frustrated about having to wait a full week to be able to play it without issues.

It also reminded me that I am out of shape, so I am glad I now have a neat way to get excercise.

So, I was actually kind of underwhelmed with Google Earth. I like the flying around part, but my dream of being able to just walk around Rome or London or Shibuya and take in the sights in 3-d is a bit hampered by everything looking like burned out rubble. apparently people on Reddit get pissed when people say that (shock).

I understand why it happens - they’re basically trying to overlay satellite data to triangulate height maps, so it’s not wholly accurate. But it’s still definitely a bummer.

However! I downloaded some of the big Minecraft maps, and those are pretty great in VR. World pop-in is a bit of a problem, and falling actually terrifies me. Otherwise, loved it.
I was sick as hell when I tried it, though, so I got terrible motion sickness. Really looking forward to trying ot when I feel a bit better.

since you got WMR try holotour, it's free on the ms store. no idea if it works with other headsets. there might also be some stuff from public tv stations (in varying quality), but with more focus on sightseeing/education. need to use that loicense money for something.
and if you want to look even more stupid while exercising try sprint vector.

So I couldn’t use my VR set for a couple weeks due to some health issues, but thanks to the Steam sale I picked up a half dozen games and I’ve been playing a couple.

I like Google Blocks as a fun little Blender-lite. Its inability to really allow precision makes it a bit tough to use, but I still enjoyed it and will keep going with it.
Minecraft in VR still makes me sick in about 90 seconds, even with extra strong blinders and movement smoothing and everything I can think of turned on.

But Gravity Labs is amazing! It was the first game where I turned on the room boundaries and actually let myself walk around the space. And even with the boundaries on I found myself getting lost and touching furniture a few times.

It was really awesome moving things around and reaching up and down to try to get angles. A couple times I forgot that I couldn’t actually just reach or fly as high as I wanted to. ...I’m gushing, I guess, but it was a really fascinating experience. It doesn’t have the precision of Infinifactory, or even Portal, but I’ve also never just completely forgotten where I was in those.

Game has some serious bugs though. Kept getting stuck in menus, the gif recorder doesn’t work, if you jump back to the main menu it sometimes doesn’t record your progress. Issues, but hopefully solvable.

Also, having something go through your head while in VR is this surreal and jarring experience.

As a bit of an update to throw thread, as anyone dabbled in VR recently? I recently started playing Doom 3 in VR and it’s a bonafide VR experience through and through

Thinking about getting it.
Don't. Forced facebook and no real IPD adjustment. It has only three IPD settings, if yours does not match one of them exactly the whole thing is just a blurry headache-machine.
Oh, and inside-out tracking and only a super laggy PC connection, of course. And only 72Hz.
