Good god, and I here I was thinking that the Quest 2 was going to be alright, minus the facebook account shitshow
With the rate things are going wrong for the Quest 2, I imagine we'll be hearing about units catching fire soon.

Turns out "soon" was ten days: https://twitter.com/MND373/status/1321506303898996740

Ordered a quest 2 as my first headset. Honestly just wanna see how it all feels like without investing a fucktonne like with the valve index. Beat saber looks like a good excuse to do a bit of home cardio.

Will report back if I experience any chemical/fire burns or lizard Zuck hypnosis

can't remember how compatible it is with steam, but if it supported might wanna grab it there instead of getting the occulus version tying you to FB.

Apparently I need a $100 cable if I want to play steam games without some laggy ass virtual desktop.

It hasn't even arrived and I've already been zucked (:_(

should've bought reverb g2 (or old lenovo explorer/odyssey+ if you can get your hands on it). as much as I hate microsoft, they're were the only ones trying not to go full retard with VR, so I can excuse WMR being locked to windows (and the headsets are cheap enough that it's not that big a deal), and with full steam integration microsoft was actually smart for once.

occulus is basically the epic game store of VR, trying to fragment an already niche af market, and while they might bankroll some games you can play via relive, they've shown they have no issue shitting on their customers to get their precious data, it's only a matter of time till someone notices the mic is always on and the cams are snapping dick pics after the sugarmountain sneaks it in via TOS update legally. and you better accept or lose access to your hardware (and purchases).

but hey it's cheap and easy to use, so....
it's not like people have been telling that fat fuck gaben all normies care about is price, not specs or useless gimmicks like full finger tracking (on an overpriced controller that rivals chinkshit in build quality).

your other alternative to get a feel for VR would've been psvr if you have a ps4 pro (>inb4 console), but it's pretty cheap, they're the only one besides facebook pumping money into games, the setup is even easier, the lower specs don't matter that much anyway when you're in the game and it offers an easy homogenic experience. only shame is that sony has been getting more retarded for a while, so who knows where it's going.

Cross posting from the Giveaways Thread: Elite Dangerous is free to keep on the Epic client, right now until the 26th.
Haven't tried it yet, on behalf of being drunk, but it is supposed to be one of the better VR games out there.

eh, it's ok, but unless they changed it (doubtful) it's basically just displaying the game on your HMD in 3d, that's it. while it does look impressive, controls and functionality are still exactly the same as the normal version. even x rebirth VR put more effort in it (which kinda sucks in it's own way, but still..).

there's also the issue that it's euro truck simulator in space, and while that's less of a deal on a pancake screen when you can just do shit on your second monitor, you have to sit the whole time in VR (or take the HMD off all the time, either sucks).

still, it's free so no harm done (besides epic).

I was redirected here from an older VR thread.

I've noticed VR apps have come a lot farther than games by this point. Google TiltBrush is still one of the neatest things they've released for VR systems, where games are still at the Beat Saber level.

The price turned a lot of people away from the hardware, but the mobile VR market kinda dried up, taking away the ONE affordable option we had. PSVR is a nice balance between price and quality, but not enough people are actively using it.

I have a mobile VR helmet similar to Google Cardboard and the first thing I did was watch the Christchurch video in VR, lol.

didn't psvr sell more than the vive and the old rift? can't really beat the price and the setup is so simply even consolefags can do it, even if it is ouside-in.
bigger issue is that sony seems to have no quality control whatsoever for the games, even their own ones. bravo team had way too many issues and missing polish, farpoint is great but coop a mess due to UT, firewall zero could be the killer app for psvr but it's run by literal retards - imagine counterstrike in vr, except you can't even properly play online, let a lone with a mate, so what's the fucking point?

Repeating a previous post, VR gaming is currently what regular games were somewhere around Pong and Space Invaders. The technology allows for more and I hope some people take a risk and tries to create some weird shit, ignoring all the VR no-no's, just to see what comes out of it.

I think we have some games that take some big risks in VR, with the obvious being boneworks. Seriously, if it comes to the quest 2 as a stand-alone, I highly recommend it, there are some crazy things you can do in Boneworks.

Update to my VR shenanigans: I sold my WMR and CV1 and placed in an order for a Index, I am already having some withdrawals from using VR frequently, hopefully the wait will be worth it.

Got my VR with my coofbux. I do have issues with the nausea, not horrible after a bit, but I can feel it after about an hour of play. I've also been kinda slow filling out my library. Still need to get Alyx and Boneworks despite those games being strong motivation to purchase.

That said it's given me some great game experiences that have made it worth the cost. It's the only thing that got me to play any amount of Elite Dangerous. No Man's Sky was much better in the same genre. Hotdogs, Horseshoes, and Handgrenades was fun if very shallow.

Lately I've been playing Walking Dead Saints and Sinners. It's probably the best experience I've had with franchise since the first 60 issues of the comic. Very glad there is no cheap jump scares, as I hate those in games and movies and don't know that I could stand them in something I otherwise enjoy with VR.

I will say, the cord fucking sucks, I have tried a full multi pulley setup cause I'm dubious it'll make that big a difference from a hook, but it's the bigger killer to immersiveness. I haven't tried the Quest yet, but I feel like that's the way to go. Make it less powerful and uncorded. I don't know what games are unavailable on the quest but I do somewhat regret not getting it. Hopefully more options become available in the next couple of years when I'll be considering getting a newer model.

Updatings time

No hardware issues or subliminal Zuck messages have been noticed. I can't compare it to any other headset, but the quality seems fine.

However, apparently VR isn't something I can handle, and I felt sick as fuck after a while. Probably going to resell it if my brain doesn't adjust to this shit.

Ps: best saber is a lot harder than it looks

unless you're one of the poor souls who never get used to it (same way there are people who never have any issue at all), all it takes is time and "getting your VR legs". the main issue it figuring out what works for you and getting there. even getting used to it can be all over the place. one advice is just powering through, but that never worked for me since I hated having to chill for hours while my brain calms down (and which put me off a lot getting back into it in the beginning), meanwhile two hours in honey select fucked me up real hard (while looking like a joker gas victim) but hardly any issue since then.

it's weird, no one-size fits all solution is probably the biggest issue right now.

never really got the issue, for me the cord's mostly just going down my back and I'm never that "immersed" that I run all over the place or spin around like a tasmanian devil that I forget where I am, so never really was much of a problem for me.

After getting an almost post-migraine like feeling after my last few sessions, I've requested a refund. Maybe my lazy eye somehow makes it much harder for my brain to deal with this, but I just can't stomach it for long.

What a shame. I really like beat saber custom maps. Those fucking touhoufags can make some insane maps
