So what's the future of PSVR, anyways? I see it's compatible with PS5 and Google TiltBrush came out for it earlier this year, but otherwise Sony seems to be ignoring it.

We need more affordable competition for Oculus that doesn't require Facebook bullshit.

They’re working on a PS5 headset with inside-out tracking, that’s as far as I know. They won’t release until 2023 at most

they're not ignoring it, but probably putting the budget somewhere else after it turned out VR wasn't the big-ass moneymaker dumb suits expected, at best putting some money into smaller games but holding off on hardware.

speaking of PSVR, if you ever want to get a ps5, best to request the adaptor you'll need now, because knowing sony in a few months that shit will be hard to come by unless you want to pay scalper prices.

definitely, but outside facebook trying to take over the ecosystem or valve fondling their balls while make free money, there's not enough (projected) demand for companies to invest much like there was 3 years ago.
that's why I blame that fat fuck gaben wasting money on shitty gimmicks instead of pushing lighthouse via cheap HMD and controllers into the market first.

There are some inexpensive WMR headsets. But they don't get much marketing and the technology is too confusing for casual buyers to seek them out or buy one with confidence.

only used, they all got phased out a while back (and the odyssey+ was never available in europe officially). the only WMR headset available right now to preorder is the reverb g2, and that costs $600, so not exactly what I'd call cheap or aimed at casuals. it's really no surprise people go with oculus when you can get a rift s for 400 bucks, and a quest for even less. there isn't anything cheaper.

I finally found the time to try Elite Dangerous, and it's kinda shitty. They did not even bother to get the most basic things right, like the camera position, or an option to start the game in VR from their launcher. To start the game I have to use the "Start in VR" option in the Epic launcher. Starting the game from the Oculus library or from the ED launcher only starts the desktop version. The camera is even worse, I started with my head in the pilot's butt and had to manually assign a joypad button to fix it. Even then the camera is slightly in front and to the right of where it should be, with no option to reposition it.
I also suffered a little bit of simulator sickness, which I am not prone to with VR applications. Not much, but it is there. I played for about half an hour, decided to take a short break, and then decided to not return because I noticed that it hit me in the stomach. I'll keep at it, in small steps, for the next couple of weeks and see if I can get used to it, because the flying itself seems fun enough to waste some time with.

told ya. but tbf I don't remember it that bad technically, maybe I'm more used to worse VR integrations and cases where you just have to wonder "who the fuck designed this?!"
winner goes to illusion, designing the inputs for a game clearly made to spank your meat requiring BOTH MOTION CONTROLS AT THE SAME TIME. they're really the bethesda of eroge. who wants to squeeze one out with a wiimote dangling from their wrist? luckily a lot is fixed by mods, but still... bloody hell.

for example when you come from bridge crew which has a fully virtual interface, using fucking cursor based menus is no excuse. x rebirth at least implements the controls in some way, but a) is designed specifically for vive controllers (so you have to adapt them whatever you use) b) does their own thing which is hit or miss (really takes some getting used to and might requires changing the default) and c) still has browsing menus. then if you look at rogue mission it does everything perfectly but dumbed down for some people, it still makes ED even worse because the games was always a clusterfuck of unapproachable systems for complexity/sim-fags sake, and again is completely stupid when it's just browsing menu after menu knowing when to press what.

Im kind've tempted to buy a Rift S since theyre down to 300 bucks, but I'm somewhat worried about the facebook requirements. Should I take the plunge or is facebook too controlling?

There are already multiple people working on jailbreaking the Rift, I imagine it won't be very long before you can use it without the facebook bullshit.

or spend bit of more money and pick up a G2 once they're available.

heck you can probably find some non-zucced headsets after christmas when people want to get rid of their presents.

I recently got a Samsung Odyssey WMR headset and having a blast with it, the only problem so far is that WMR support for third party software is lacking compared to Oculus or Vive/Steam, i was trying to play the VR mod for Doom 3 but it keeps crashing at the game selection menu if i use a patch for WMR controllers, if i don't use the patch i can play the game but only some buttons in the controller work without it.

Newer games work great with it tho.

since i have myself a desktop pc now, i can see myself getting a vr set in the future once i upgrade my pc to handle vr. pretty sure a 750 ti would make me rather sick unless it's beat saber, but upgrading to maybe a 1060 6gb and ryzen 5 1600 would probably do the trick
granted, there arent that many games out there for vr i wanna play other than a handful of titles, but i expect the number of vr worthy games to expand in the near future

never tried the doom 3 mod myself, but did you try launching it via steam? this way you might be able to fake it as other controllers while steam takes care of the rest. I also remember another game which had the same issue and was fixed with some fake vive .dlls, so there's definitely some people working on stuff like that.

mate of mine was running his vive back then with a 970 and an oc'd i5, a 1060 and any ryzen should be more than enough for most stuff (unless you really want to crank up the supersampling etc.)
amd gpus are also an option depending on your country and availability, a 580 should be pretty cheap these days, or whatever their new midrange card is. same way if your board can handle it go with a ryzen+, they pretty much cost the same anyway.

and with the post christmas period coming up you could keep your ears open if someone's doing a bigger upgrade, most people either grab a new gpu and/or cpu+board(+possibly ram), this way you can half a system for a good price you know that already works.

Doom 3 VR mod works really well with the GOG version in my experience, but I no longer have my WMR headset, as I have sold that with the CV1 to help fund for the Index. From what I hear, the the Ryzen 5000 series of CPUs run VR a lot better than the prior Ryzen CPUs, I am very content with my 3700x.

Edit: So after a week of owning a Index, I can't go back to other HMDs(or controllers), it's beautiful. Also, I am going to recommend games for those are interested in VR either for fitness or playing games;

The first pick for a game is BOXVR, it's incredibly demanding and can take the wind out of you in a 30 minute session:

The HP Reverb came out at $599. Is it worth it for someone who only has a PSVR as of now?

I have a Reverb G2 and it's certainly an improvement on the first gen Reverb. I mostly use mine for work so I might not have the exact same reasons for liking it that would transfer to gaming. If you haven't already looked for reviews on it, this seems like a pretty decent review- Reverb G2 review I've played a few VR games like Alyx and Star Wars Squadrons all the way through on the Reverb G2 and thought it worked well, and the image quality was fantastic. The controllers aren't really anything special.

The per-eye resolution is the same as it was on the original Reverb, but the lenses have really been improved and HP finally added manual IPD adjustment. At 2160x2160 per eye, you need a pretty decent gpu to run it. The guy in the video link said the 1080 ti he was using was just about good enough for MS Flight Sim. I'm also a big fan of inside-out tracking, which I think the Reverb is really good at. I've had a lot of non-technical people using the G2 for work related sims, and they all find it pretty intuitive to use and don't run in to any tracking issues. My apps don't really tax the gpu a whole lot so we don't have any issues with performance on pre-RTX Quadro cards.

Any new games that aren't unity jank come out in the past few months? I feel like it's dwindled lately. Especially disappointed in MoH

psvr has no porn (unless you like to stream it), so...

but seriously, not much choice these days. quest is cheaper but facebook. index is 1000 bucks for gimmicky and questionable controllers. it's a sorry state of affairs when the most sensible option is microsoft stuff....

unreal jank, rest is either subsidized by facebook or sony.

there are 2 vr bundles running currently, might as well grab an old game for cheap (raw data is pretty nice, if I would've know they'd run it in a second bundle I'd have picked up the rest of the survios stuff earlier)
