Watched the CDPR interview with Skillup and CDPR dude says that in order to be accommodating to new players they are minimizing the references to past events and TW3 in general.

This seems very strange. I assume because it's called The Witcher 4 that it's a direct sequel to TW3 and characters like Geralt and Yenneffer and maybe even Dandelion and Triss are going to show up so at least some knowledge of the prior games is going to be required if you want to have any fucking who any of these people are.

I want this to be good so bad but it is just absolutely covered in red flags and we haven't even seen any gameplay yet.

It's also outsourced to Platige Studio, who did the trailers for their other games, so just like 3 it's not going to look like that anyway.

it's funny, when they first started releasing screenshots and videos for The Witcher 2, people complained that they prettified Geralt too much, making him look like some anime pretty boy.

They quickly corrected it (iirc, they fixed it by just swapping out the new skin texture with his old TW1 texture)

The Wild Hunt connects all three of them. TW2 continues the first game's plot revolving around Geralt's mysterious resurrection and amnesia, with his search for a way to restore his memories being a plot thread in TW2. The third game does, unfortunately, either abandon or greatly minimalizes most of the stuff set up in TW2.

How the fuck do you make a game more brain dead than The Bitcher 3. The gameplay was just a bad clone of ass creed with basic bitch MMO RPG on top. The story was the only thing it had going for it. If they neuter the story than who the fuck is it for anyway?
I for one look forward to this mess since CDPR hasn't made a good game on purpose, ever. And after the terrible launch of 2077 they don't have any more goodwill to burn.

They could have just reused her model from Witcher 3 and it still would have been a bad idea. Ciri becoming a Witcher is the worst outcome; it doesn't fit with the world where the heroic ideals of a monster hunter are so watered down they are now just 'pest control for Drowners'. It doesn't fit with her arc in Witcher 3, where when she was using literally anime tier '1% of my power!' she made one of the most powerful Elven Sorcerers alive, into her bitch. It doesn't fit with Geralts arc where he would be spitting blood at the idea of Ciri being a Witcher; and it makes no sense for the world where when she becomes a Witcher, Nilfgaard gets slamfucked because Emyr is going to die.

Them doing this 100% shows that they have no idea what the hell they are doing with the story. Unless they essentially remake Ciris character into something entirely alien from Witcher 3; then this game is just 'Lol Ciri is larping for some reason haha'. Because she will have to job every single fight that isn't her throwing down with yet another once in a thousand years super talented mages. Caranthir damn near dropped a glacier on the bitch and she still took him down; how the hell am I supposed to buy that she has issue fighting a Nekker? Fuck off.

Ciri the omnipotent mage or whatever has the issue of the mundane matters of a video game being completely beneath her, as you said. Ciri the witcher has the problem of how she actually becomes a witcher which has been beaten home enough in the thread already. The obvious answer is not to do a Ciri game but present day CDPR seems to loathe gamers just as much as the rest of the AAA landscape does so of course Ciri has to be the omnipotent witcher-mage and shitting all over their own established canon is a bonus. This is such a garbage framing it absolutely makes sense that so much of the studio fucked off, leaving behind nothing besides greenhorns who can't work with anything that's not UE5.

Is it unpopular to say I always found Ciri to be a bland character and that the series would be better without her? She's a mary sue "muh magical super special daughter/waifu that holds the fate of the multiverse". And her only redeeming quality is to have Geralt show his kinder side.

Anyways the trailer is pretty horrifying since Ciri turns from a typical 20 year old slav to a typical 30 year old slav and that wall is pretty harsh. I thought the whole Witcher transformation trial was very iffy if it even works on women in the first place, never mind a source.

But hey, we can't possibly have a game with a new character. And Ciri needs even more super special powers along her already huge set of abilities.

I think her Witcher design would mostly be fine if they got rid of the puffy/bloated cheeks that are right behind giant jaw as the corporate mandated feature for female characters these days.

It's not like there aren't already thousands of games catering to coomers who only care about fapping to the female characters and not the gameplay or story.

Personally I am looking forward to the game because I enjoyed Witcher 3 a lot.

What I remember from the books, her personality is "I'm a princess!" or "I'm a witcher!" or "I'm a sorceress!" and... uh, she's not stupid but not very smart either, and... err... she's important to the plot but meant to be a bland self insert character for the nerdette reader.
Don't expect rich character from a barely-pubescent teenage girl.

But hey, we can't possibly have a game with a new character. And Ciri needs even more super special powers along her already huge set of abilities.

They could make a prequel like Sapkowski is doing right now - he wrote one years ago and another one that released not a month ago in Poland. That wouldn't allow you to reuse estabilished characters to shave some advertising budget, however. Neither would it generate controversy.

New interview says the game takes place in the far north beyond the Dragon Mountains which is a setting that had never appeared in either the novels or the games.

Basically they can make up whatever shit they want since no lore currently exists for it.

Probably a smart move honestly.
