Booze is also expensive. Also, they and all their friends live with their parents, where drinking (especially underage) is usually less convenient.

It's just more expensive all around. The situations where drinking with others would actually be fun are expensive on their own, and there are suitable legal substitutes for drinking (like weed as others have said)

The world has become more "long distance friendship" oriented for Zoomers, and it's just not as fun to drink alone at home because going to clubs means you'll be paying $8 for a white russian. Unless you're in a group call or something then there's no incentive.

People are surprisingly uptight about actually doing anything fun with it. Dance, pose for your insta or w/e. It's a show.

Zoomers seem more into weed, nic, and stimulants. Alcohol is the normie sign that "we're partying now" despite nobody actually having fun. People don't let loose, way more concerned about what will happen. Cider is fine and sometimes mead or wine, but every other type of alcohol I've tasted falls under two categories of tasting either like soap(beer) or cleaning liquid(whiskey, sake, brandy). Even if I don't drink much I still keep alcohol around, I use brandy in puddings and ale in pies.

You drink when you're bored and young people are too busy playing vidya or chatting with others to feel obligated to do something that distracts them from their thing. It's also something that gets more intense as you get older, your tolerance will go from a few drinks to a lot of drinks when you're older.

Whoever said smoke weed because alcohol is expensive must have some sort of free supply of weed, cause that shit is expensive. I used to vape $400 of stiiizy carts a month. Drinking is far cheaper.
