Times when you have felt genuinely sorry for Chris

I checked on CWCpedia: when Chris was 6, it was 1988. So, probably, if we talk about PC it was OS/2 , MS-DOS or verly early MS Windows (rather 1.0 than 2.0). Well... it will be quite impresive if actually Chris due anything other than playing in Pirates! by Sid M. or shitting his pants, but, as I can, I don't belive that Chris was a 80's computer genius.
Back in the 80's, there was far more variety in the kinds of computers and operating systems that were on the market. Windows and MacOS are the only consumer operating systems that still survive (and from the end of the PowerPC days until very recently they used essentially the same hardware), and the history is kind of buried in mainstream media, but Intel IBM PC clones were by no means universal in the home at the time.

For one thing, they were very expensive. While competition from clone makers had caused the prices to drop considerably from the obscenely high days when IBM had a near-monopoly on the platform, the components were still expensive, because the primary users of the systems were businesses that were willing to pay a premium for "IBM Compatibility".

In 1988 for the money that a mortal could afford, and you went the IBM-compatible route, you got a very home-unfriendly computer. You likely got an 8088, NEC V20, or an 80286 on the high end, still probably with 640k/768k memory. You got CGA graphics, possibly Tandy 16-color CGA (low end) or EGA (high end). 386 and VGA were expensive as hell and it was mostly businesses that had them. You did not have a sound card, just a boopy single-voice square wave PC speaker, or if you were lucky you had a Tandy with 3 voice square wave. Only rich people had an Adlib.

For what young people were mostly interested in (games), the graphics and sound were abysmal (4 colors or 16 if you were lucky with Tandy/EGA, boopy PC speaker sound, no hardware sprites). You did not beg your parents for an IBM-compatible machine. If you had one at home it's because daddy had one because it had to be compatible with what he used at work.

Since the Intel IBM PC clones that people had at home were so underpowered, they normally only shipped with MS-DOS, not OS/2, or the crappy single-tasking versions of Windows. (Windows did not become common until the cooperative multitasking era of Windows 3.1)

Kids at home were either console kids with an NES/Master System/PCE (depending on country), or had one of the various affordable home micros. If a kid begged for a computer it was usually a Commodore 64 (if you were of modest means, and to this day it is the best selling single model of computer of all time, not counting consoles or smartphones) or an Atari ST or an Amiga. Really poor kids in Europe had stuff like the ZX Spectrum.

An 8-bit micro gave you decent games that held up well compared to CGA games (worse CPU, better graphics), for far FAR less money. An 8-bit console gave you games that easily bested IBM clones for action games. If you had an Amiga it utterly destroyed anything an IBM clone that cost twice as much could do, and outperformed all home consoles available in the west at the time (the PCEngine was only barely out in Japan then).

That's why Chris having a Commodore 64 was perfectly normal. It was a cheap computer that Bob had previously purchased because he was interested in those newfangled home computers, and was the best affordable computer you could buy in the early 80's. By 1988, Bob saw no reason to buy a newer computer at the time.

I very much doubt Chris did much programming though. The advantage of 8-bit micros that got people into programming was that they all powered on to a BASIC editor, and the C64 wouldn't even autoboot from floppy (forcing you to load an executable from disk with a LOAD command that looks cryptic to kids today, that's the mangled LOAD"*",8,1 that Chris misremembered in his recent artwork).

Every kid who ever had one wrote a 3-line BASIC program that printed "POOP" on the screen over and over or something to that effect. That was probably the limit of Chris' programming skills. To old fucks like the Chandler parents, even that probably seemed impressive. There were countless parents who thought their kids were computer geniuses because they could write a dumb little program that didn't really do anything meaningful.

Either way, once Chris got a Sega Genesis he never looked back (until very recently). When he finally got on the internet in the late 90's (when a default Windows 9x PC made it relatively easy), going online was pretty much the only thing he ever used a computer for, though later he learned to use some sort of paint program to create text bubbles for the Sonichu comics.

I grew up fuckin around on an Amiga 500, guess I'll go hack Nasa.
NASA -- and most of the internet really -- had terrible security at the time. Everything was rawdogged with open ports, and NATs and firewalls were rare. If a pre-college kid was even on the internet in the late 1980's or early 1990's, there was a very real chance that they were up to something like that.

We don't know much about Chris as a kid, but I can imagine he must have been a pain in the ass to talk to and be around.

Regardless of all the things he did as an adult how he was raised was not his fault. Blorb never bothered to teach him how to be a decent person or the proper way to treat others, they just threw him into public school and hoped everything would work out.
Oh they did way worse than just throwing him into public school. They stroked his ego and gave him the family curse, the family curse being the concept the world was out to get the chandlers. Now, I think this was Barbs doing primarily but Bob played along with this shit too. Whenever Chris had a conflict they immediately blamed the other party or even animal I'll quote myself:
Chris fucks up in school? Call the principal a faggot.
Chris fucks up at the game place? Call the patrons conspiring faggots.
Chris molests a cat? Better kill that cat!

I'm not judging the lumberjack on his homophobia but, that might have literally killed him when Chris went troon come to think of it.

"My father gradually accepted me being a tomgirl."
or was he just so fucking weak and dying that he didn't have the strength to throw you in a river and start over like the good ole days Chris.

The thing that boggles my mind is that in college, what Chris was doing in his age at that time were weird: The attraction sign. Keep in mind this was before he was discovered, and people who are finding about him now would say "It was the trolls." Nope. This went for a while, until Barb told him to stop. The sign was the reason for Chris getting suspended, and Borb couldn't sue (as they usually do for Chris' fuck ups). I thought they would tell him "You can't do shit like this, Chris.", but it went further when the internet and trolls got involved.

It's no surprise Chris would turn out the way he did. From 2009, it would only be a matter of time before he ends up dead or in a cell.

I'm of the opinion that if he had somehow found himself a wife either in high school or shortly thereafter things would have worked out much better for him.

Granted he still would have been a weird sped in a lot of ways but having a wife to care about and maybe children as well would have allowed him to focus his energies on a constructive life and kept him grounded in reality.

Instead he was alone for so long that the Internet and his imaginations completely devoured his life.

I don't think he would have settled for any woman in his league at that point, he was extremely judgemental or picky in the types of women he would date. If a woman wasn't a thin white Christian girl that didn't smoke or drink he wouldn't date her, and most girls that fit that description wouldn't go out with him.

maybe some of the galpals that were paid to hang out with him gave him unrealistic expectations

"It was the trolls."
God I hate it when people that don't know Chris' story pull this shit. Yeah, a ton of it was trolls, but he was a creepy fuckup years before anyone knew his name. Racist, touching women when they tell him to stop over and over, and thinking a sign will get him dates. Guy was always hopeless, his fame just ramped it up to unimaginable heights.

Tiffany was not exactly model material. She's on the homely end of the scale (not saying she's not a great person, from what I've seen she's really smart and funny). Chris would still have jumped at the chance to be her boyfriend.

Chris never had a chance with *any* girl that wasn't more retarded than he is. He completely lacks anything that women find attractive in a man. Ironically the best thing he had going for him was his looks, which were rather average (back in the day before he became obese). I'd argue that on an appearance scale, putting his atrocious fashion sense aside, he actually ranked higher than Tiffany.

The problem is that looks only help with gaining interest from women if you're on the extreme end of the attractiveness scale. Chris was not exactly Adonis, so he couldn't ride on that (as most men can't). On every *other* metric Chris was kryptonite to high school women, college women, and older women, and by the time he became older himself he became a fatty, and then a tranny fatty, losing the only thing about him which wasn't disgusting.

There was never any chance for Chris to "settle", unless he chased borderline-vegetable sped girls or horny old-folks-home ladies (that weren't Barb).

A Chris without the trolls would be pretty similar to a Chris with trolls imo. Only thing that would be different is he couldn't rely on them to pay for shit. He would still be a fat troon who uses any money he can get his hands on to buy legos and ponies and would still end up banging his mom (maybe even sooner because he would never have any fake girlfriends). Hell he would probably end up as divorced from reality, just with different beliefs.

There are probably some people who really believe, due to Chris' history, that some trolls tricked him into sexually assaulting Barb. They won't bother to read the CWCki, and they sure aren't going to come here to read about how Chris, on his own, purchased a book specifically to have sex with the disabled.

The biggest thing for me was always the early family stuff. Childhood photos, Bob's letters to Chris, the "dreaming studio" sign. At least at the start Bob was making an active effort to be a good parent and had high hopes for his son. But by the time Chris was in high school Bob was almost 70 with a heart attack. He just no longer had the ability to be much help to his son at that point. It's sad watching the timeline of this man having such high hopes for his offspring that are slowly eroded by his own failing health and his son's bad decisions.

Also Bob dying, the house burning down, the Bluespike thing, and all the other stuff that's been mentioned a hundred times here already.

Interesting what would happen in the next 10 years after that. All of Chris' autistic antics with the people of Ruckersville/Charlottesville and the trolls, then culminating in the tomgirl saga and Bob dying. If Bob hadn't been shackled with Barb, chances are he could have lived in relative comfort instead of being chained in a hoarded dungeon literally being infested with bugs.

He probably wondered why he wasn't swimming in pussy like he was in high school and didn't understand. That was way before he found out he learned about the paid friends or people being asked to be his friend. I wonder if Chris had tard outs in high school but always had the gal pal gang around to help him through whatever issue he was having, but Borb didn't get involved with getting Chris college friends, which is why he settled on a mommy figure after getting thrown out of English class.

My favorite Bob/Chris story was one where Chris was complaining to one of his fake girlfriends about being stressed out and mortified because Bob was driving him somewhere and started talking about Chris's future, and Chris, not giving two shits, decided to ignore Bob by playing on his phone (and most likely making stupid noises), and Bob, fed up, told Chris, "Fuck you" and flipped him off. This really hurt Chris and caused all kinds of bad feelings.

To be honest, if Chris wasn't a pervert who didn't know what no means, he would've actually been endearing to hang out with whoever chick dug someone with eccentric quirks like his. The problem is, his standards of women were much higher and it didn't help that he had an insufferable ego. His upbringing wasn't his fault, but as a grown man, he certainly has some idea of right and wrong, even as of now given he initially tried to hide the incest debacle.

Not exactly sorry for Chris but

I feel bad for Bob. Tragic character. I hope he was somewhat at peace at the end.

Bob made his mistakes too, but he at least tried to be a father to Chris and tried to steer him in the right direction.

It felt like once he died, Chris spiraled even more into insanity.

I agree. I feel like he might be aware of the right and wrong, just not of the consequences like he is supposed to. I excused this as his upbringing until it became obvious he uses his "infamy" to get free stuff and get away with things. Lol, autism.

one of the times i think some of us can agree was maybe abit to far was when bluespike convinced Chris to shove the medallion up their arse hole

I felt bad for Chris about the horrible economic situation he ended up in from the house burning down, Barb's debts, legal issues and Bob dying in a relatively short period of time. Any hint of financial security was ripped away and he was basically doomed to die homeless from that point on. Chris can't comprehend reality let alone the costs of owning and maintaining a house.

That made the obsessive Lego and toy purchases really infuriating, Even if someone felt bad about all the debt and the Chandlers possibly losing the house you couldn't donate to help because you knew it would be spent on my little pony merch or other trash immediately.
