It's obvious this channel is doing it for publicity, because it's the popular topic. There's not much a surgeon can say that isn't already immediately obvious.
I'm not sure who'd be more qualified to talk about human goop though, crime scene cleaner perhaps.

You can't really do surgery on a puddle of flesh (formerly person), after all.
 
I may have missed it: Has it been confirmed whether the rubix cube was recovered in a solved state, and if the brand was "Exploding Rubix Cube"?
From what i gathered there is likely to be no rubix cube, as Stockton Rush required his passengers to be classified as self-funded researchers and such. the rubix cube world record was probably the excuse they used for a kid being down there.
 
Hmm...I'm still holding out hope that the kid failed in his first attempt to solve the cube within 60 seconds, yelled "Fuck!", and then threw the cube through the porthole window in frustration. And that the next visit to the implosion site will prove that the cube was subsequently solved by crabs.

if you were somehow able to get down there in a super diving suit that could withstand those depths the best you could do is mold their remains into a flesh ziggurat so that the crabs could eat in style.

Assuming you could find enough finely disassembled human remains to collect for a flesh ziggurat anyways.

I do feel really, really bad for the guy who invented the rotary printing press. Gangrene is a terrible way to go.

Oh yeah for sure doing it only because it's popular but that was the first really technical video on what happened. I didn't know they might have been burned. I have no urge to watch anything by him again, but this was a handy video. One of those are actual content while jumping on the bandwagon.

This video is (in my opinion) probably the closest and best explanation of the failure mechanism based on what’s known so far. The guy also points out some incriminating details spotted in oceangate’s own “making of” videos.




Also, further musing on the suicide angle -
Stockton Rush surely knew the hull was going to blow up sooner or later based on the sounds it was making.
But there’s no way he was going to stop doing trips and rethink the design, as his entire schtick was proving the rest of the world wrong about his unconventional use of carbon fibre. To do so would have been the end of the company and of his status as any sort of businessman. Can’t give the haters a W.

Therefore, he probably started going along on every voyage on the basis that the only thing worse than admitting it was a bad design would be admitting it was a bad design AND being held responsible for killing 5 people.

I think that was the implication. He’d rather continue to roll the dice with a high chance of going out painlessly than give up and admit having burned billions and failed.



It seems rhe air supply / recycling was one of the more robust systems. In one video, the PH guy says they were stuck on the ocean floor for *3 days* in a previous mishap. And he kept breathing.



On other mini subs like the Alvin, these are tanks or spheres outside the cabin. In the titan they *might* have used the space under the flat floor for cylinders. Reason I say that is there’s a pic of a manual hydraulic valve that’s clearly to do with ballast,, marked with sharpie. If that’s inside there’s a good chance the tank is inside too.

I know they were stuck on Titan for 20 hrs after the crew couldn't get them out due to huge waves. They were just bobbing on the surface the entire night. It was apparently after that night that Stockton decided to install a toilet on board. I can imagine somebody probably had to take a shit and traumatized the rest of the crew.


I'd still love to hear what was going on in that half hour or so out of morbid curiosity, like those bear lover tapes.

This is a pretty informative video by a Structural Engineering Professor that explains the design and what went wrong with Rush's Sub.
The guys a Pajeet so if you can't get past his accent it's understandable but the guy talks a lot of sense.

"We were thinking outside the box with carbon fiber" = "we figured nobody had ever thought of carbon fiber because they were too stupid to think of it."

Not a single thing they did with this sub was truly new; every single thing could have been potentially done correctly by a domain expert. It turns out that gluing carbon fiber to titanium is a thing there are experts in!
 
So, they imploded a coffin made out of carbon fiber (which is the new meme in tech), screwed the screen to the hull, ignored tons of safety regulations remaining unpunished, killed 5 people including the CEO, drove the whole tube with the controller i give my cousin when he wants to play Mortal Kombat...

And their website still cheerful and merry without a single comma as to what happened.

A lot of absolute horseshit cash-in videos on YouTube now, but I rate this one for an astute analysis of the psychology and other factors used to convince people the sub was safe.

It also explains Rush’s obstinacy against detractors of his ideas, since he had been pioneering composite aircraft in the 90s and proven right about that.

And finally it pretty conclusively (in my mind) debunks the message transcript, I am now on Team Fake for that one.

Agree most of Youtube on the subject seems to be filled with no nothing Australian Dudes regurgutating ever more idiotic nonsense that they've dredged up from god knows where. I assume a mushroom high.

This one is from 2 weeks ago. But remains to my mind one of the better technical analysis's because the guy has actual practical subject knowledge. Dealing with deep sea pressure vessels is what he does for a living for the oil industry.
