About 8 hours ago Ubisoft streamed a premiere for the next big game on the Tom Clancy's series, and while many wished for a new ghost recon that didn't suck, an engine upgrade to r6 siege or maybe an actual tactical game in the vein of the now deceased Splinter Cell series a 6v6, free to play, round based fps was announced, which also has power-ups (thank god, it might have been just another valorant, csgo clone, oh wait). To top that all off, the game is called Tom Clancy's XDefiant, with a vandalized version of the Tom Clancy's logo and a highlighted XD, it legitimately came off as a joke in the premiere. The game features flashy neon colors and graffiti, you know, the stuff Tom Clancy is known for. Overall, a fucking slap in the face and a rather complex way of shitting on the man's grave.

The official site, where you can sign up for a free beta, reads:

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is a free-to-play, fast-paced arena shooter that combines intense gunplay with personalized loadouts and specialized factions, as teams of gunfighters – called Defiants – battle for domination.

Personalized Playstyle

Personalize your Defiant to match your playstyle. Choose your faction, traits, abilities, and ultras. Select from an arsenal of primary and secondary weapons, attachments, and a device to complete your loadout – then tweak it on the fly to adapt to an ever-changing battlefield.

Competitive Clashes

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant offers a variety of competitive 6v6 arena and linear game modes, such as Domination and Escort. Combine that with a large pool of uniquely designed maps in rotation and no two matches will feel the same.

Diverse Factions of Defiants

Wolves, Outcasts, Cleaners, and Echelon factions battling across iconic locations is just the starting point. We’ll keep adding to our cast of Defiants as the game evolves, drawing on a range of characters and abilities from the Clancy universe and beyond.

At this point if they ever actually do another Splinter Cell they might as well have him fight a giant mech.

Edit: Now that I'm really thinking about it, how the fuck hasn't Ubisoft ripped off the Hitman revival with Splinter Cell by now? It's been 5 years now you'd think they'd do that before an Overwatch/Fortnite hybrid clone or whatever the fuck this is.

I thought this gay ass neon faux punk rock aesthetic died out like a decade ago.

Surprised it isn't some faggot like Cliffy B helming this garbage. Why the fuck did this even need to have the Tom Clancy name attached? There some kind of contract where they need to push out a TC game every year or something?

All im saying is you guys want a Splinter Cell yet you still think modern ubisoft will give you something you want its getting embarrassing at this point.

Heres my black pill prediction like Siege this game will some how succeed, and every time you see it you will seethe as esport nigs ruin another franchise. As you desperately look for any indie tactical shooter to ignite the spark inside you like the old Tom Clancy games but none of them come close as you reinstall SWAT 4/Raven Shield and drink another case of beer at your desk and ponder where it all went wrong.

Also for people who act like Clancy would actually care the dude wrote like 2 books and lived off backs of ghost writers and whoring out his name to military fanboys. If he woke up he'd ask "how large is the paycheck?". The guy at the head of this game is not quite a Cliffy B level fag but he is a former COD guy who was the lead for the lowest rated CODs specifically Ghosts and Infinite Warfare

I think there is some kind of name contract involved.

Also just make Endwar II or Red Storm Rising II if you’re this out of ideas.

I don't need to touch this game to know that it's upgrade cycle will gradually slow down to a fraction of new content and "remakes" of old maps that the community found how to unbalance. But the cosmetics train will be running full steam, assuming players are lucky enough to get what they want from the random lootboxes.

Disgusting.

Why did Splinter Cell flame out so badly? Wasn't it a popular series? I miss it.
Designers need their hands held these days and they likely have no idea what to do with it. Unless it were based off of Assassin's Creed(inb4 Sam Fisher is in the AssCreed universe) I doubt they'll put time into making a new one.

Will they finally finish the Phantoms storyline?

This could've been a smaller IP project. Slapping Tom Clancy's name on it is quite cheap.
The 'Tom Clancy's' branding has become its own little universe now, at least with HAWX, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon.

Whatever prestige it had has long since decayed after the 2000s.

Weirdly they did throw around the idea of an Assassin's Creed style Splinter Cell way back around 2007/2008 that would have had Sam sneaking around in public areas with large crowds of people, just like a modern day Assassin's Creed, that game was also infamous for giving Sam an emo haircut.

Despite the hair, that was the last time they tried to do anything interesting with the series as Conviction was generic looking and Blacklist was also generic looking.

The last one I played was Double Agent, which ended on a cliff hanger, which for me was never resolved lol, I like to think that after diving into the ocean Sam was pronounced dead and quietly retired to a little island somewhere to live out the rest of his days in peace.

What I do wonder about this, is will Ubisoft continue to milk Rainbow6 Siege for what it's worth, and I'm not sure if there's much left in that game that can be milked for gamer's $$$.

They should make a Tom Clancy game about stopping a Chinese controlled Democratic party from stealing a Presidential election and using propaganda campaigns and online surveillance to control the country and eliminate freedom and democracy, wouldn't that be a crazy fictional premise?

Game needs an updated the engine is tearing at the seams at this point. There is a thing of updating a game too much.

Sieges destruction is unironically good and if they capitalize on it more it would be great but sadly esport faggots control that game now.

Considering their launching R6S: Quarantine soon, and it will have shared "progression" between the two, Ubisoft will make their broken game until the cow is dust.

Yeah, but the problem is their game runs on an engine that desperately needs a remake or overhaul.
