I'm wondering if it's too tin foil hat to suggest they went easy on him because the target list mainly consisted of right leaning and lolbertarian personalities? Look at @Sprate Header's list in the OP.

I know Trump is in charge now, but I don't think he's replaced all the U.S. Attorneys, so we might be seeing inertia from the Biden Administration.

I just can't help but cynically think if he hit Breadtubers they would have really dropped the hammer here.

Basically he's gonna get a minimum of 12 months in big boy, not fucking around prison. Maybe 18, but it's probably going to be 12. Than he'll probably be transfered to a county clink closer to his home if he behaves himself for probably the whole 12 they do holding people there. Then free.

The list of prior targets at the top of the OP isn't necessarily representative of all of his or his friends' activity - I just lead with the names / incidents that other kiwis would most likely know about.

with a guy like this, it is usually compulsive. So take solace in the fact that he will without a doubt not be able to comply with the "no internet access" stipulation that will undoubtedly be added to his parole. He probably won't last a year outside once he gets out and thank god. Give him one chance and bury him the second he fucks up in a minor way.

That's exactly what happened. 4 years, 2 with good behavior, 10 years conditional probation of monitored internet, some charges dropped, in trade for the list of customers of and fellow conspirators; which is a cushy position, given what was on the table if he didn't take the offer.

Kid was smart on that one, because he wouldn't have been a kid by the time he got out if he refused the offer he couldn't refuse, he would've been a VERY old man.

The downside (for him) is that he has to look over his shoulder not only for the people he swatted but also for his clients whom he snitched on for the rest of his life.
