I would still take Trump's threats seriously even with the incoming pauses. Egging a guy like him on is probably not the best idea.

Bro it's on pause for thirty days if and until Mexico and Canada meet the demands, which was always the goalgood to see Trump and his administration realised this was completely retarded and backed off, it would've benefited nobody and they were probably never serious about it
Nah, they'll never enforce that, we'll never hear about any of this againBro it's on pause for thirty days if and until Mexico and Canada meet the demands, which was always the goal
I think Dirty Harry presents the position of Canada and Mexico for not complying:Nah, they'll never enforce that, we'll never hear about any of this again
It was in response to Roxham Road in 2023. Pierre said “It’s not Joe Biden fault, it’s not our fault, this is directly Justin Trudeau’s fault. It’s our border, we are responsible for maintaining it and he’s literally encouraging people to just come through.”this the same border plan that was announced instantly after the tariff talk came up?
>trump humiliates allies/vassals to assert dominance and authority
@'Ole Dente: "is this a win canabros??"
I mean not really. All I did was give some context related to the situation that some people weren’t aware of. I’m not really mad about the situation, I’m more optimistic about it than anything. This thread should just be rename the Canadian seething thread.
He talked more about his goals while he was signing executive orders, Forbes has the best coverage so I'll link that.Bro it's on pause for thirty days if and until Mexico and Canada meet the demands, which was always the goal
I hate to doom and I know the Chinese tariffs will remain but with the recent Mexican tariff hold what's stopping Yan Qing from opening a car manufacturing factory in Mexico and selling to corpos from there?
I'm pretty sure most tariffs have lasted since Trump's first term so it's safe to say they'll still be in place. It's too sporadic to plan around atm; how quickly can you build a car factory and what guarantee is there that tariffs will still be in place by the time you're done building it?
I'm not sure how it is in the US, but Canadian provinces have tarrifs between provinces, this also goes that even though the Conservative party will 99% win the next election, the Conservative voters are not in favor of the American style Republican party. The Canadian Right is not the same as the American Right, so trying to "integrate" Canada in one way or another is unlikely to give the desired effects.Canadian protectionism laws repealed and these Tarrifs were just to force Canada to the bargaining table
Forcing through harder economic means surely, but I'm not sure the US can violate NATO bylaws. But Trudeau or Poilievre trying to join up with them will never happen, yourChina and Russia are terrible options as Canada allying with them is a security threat that might force the US hand.
Although I guess there India?
Biden didn't really touch any of the Trump tariffs and in fact doubled down on some of them. The Democrats are a little more circumspect in how they go about it but they're also leaning protectionist nowadays. US protectionism isn't a Trump-anomaly, it's the new normal mood of the country and has been since Obama failed to sell America on the TPP back in 2015/2016.I'm pretty sure most tariffs have lasted since Trump's first term so it's safe to say they'll still be in place.
It's not about bringing jobs back. It's about buckbreaking maple niggersThose 1.3 dollars for the border were already announced back in December
Also weren't those tariffs supposed to bring back manufacturing to the US? How is that supposed to work when all Trump can achieve are a few Mexican border guards and a symbolic gesture from Canada
