Last year, I re-read Marvel's GI Joe series, probably my favorite comic series of all time.
But since I re-read that, I figured, I'd so the same for the Marvel Transformers series this.
I'm up to issue 72 of 80, and overall, its pretty much as I remember it. Kind of clunky for most of it, with a few stand out issues (Like Issue 13). However, things got more interesting at about issue 50 when Starscream gets the Underbase power and goes on a killing spree. And then Simon Furman takes over as head writer at issue 56 and the story telling gets a lot more epic with things like the Matrix Quest, the reveal of Primus, the Decepticon civil war, and the coming of Unicron. It gets a lot more interesting and my understanding is that this happened because the sales were down and the staff got to a point where they said "Screw it, lets just do whatever we want" and the end result were some very memorable stories that elevated characters like Grimlock, Jazz, Galvatron, Thunderwing, Bludgeon, and the like.
I still prefer Marvel's run on GI Joe, but Transformers has its stand out moments too.
