It's more I don't want people trolling the reporter and it somehow getting back to me than that.

If she's a reporter she's got thick enough skin to handle a little trolling.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I'm starting to think you're lying to us, man... *sigh*

I know that I am really pushing you on this. And, to be fair, you are not a journalist, and you have no obligation to adhere to journalism ethics or practices. I disagree with your concerns about passing her contact information on--and so would most journalists, especially the one busting her ass trying to put a story together--but I do understand your position.

The thing is, this issue wouldn't matter so much if literally every other detail you've given didn't fly in the face of standard reporting practices, not to mention common sense.

I think, much like a police officer, they would be prepared for the "weens". As @CuriousBystander pointed out, there could be no doubt that they haven't looked at the wiki if they were that interested. They would be ready for some people going crazy.

Edit: Dammit, too slow.

Tell the reporter you're willing to put her in touch with people who can give her information and direct testimony. Warn her that some of them may be epic weens and you aren't responsible for what happens after you post her details. If she's writing an entire story about internet trolling, I'm sure she'd be willing to deal with a few tryhards.

This isn't /baph/, dude. Nobody's going to try to run her out of her house or anything.

Why don't you guys elect someone to go to the next court date. Then you can see if I'm full of shit or not. I'd fucking love that. Any takers?
Calm down, you can't fault the denizens of a website dedicated to archiving and recording asking you for something concrete. This place is built on evidence shitposting, not hearsay.

Not like this would be the first time the media has taken notice of Chris. Wasn't one of his pictures shown on MTV as part of some shitty talk show?

Alright I'm going to bed. I think the thing we should focus on is Chris Chan just walked into a therapist's office and laid the last 10 years on him. How fucking funny must that have been? Why aren't we talking about that?

And to all my true and loyal fans have a safe and good night

It's actually about ethics in lolcow journalism.

My money is on Vice or Buzzfeed.

The person or publication contacts Chris, says there is a large sum of money if he does what they tell him AND keeps his mouth shut, they get a 'deep internet story' and he gets to tell his side of the story for all the world to hear. Attention, money, & sympathy.

There is all this debate about journalists. Keep in mind that if it does happen to be an internet publication, that they do not play by the print publication rules. Journalistic rules & ethic are not upheld like they used to, especially when your publications front page is '50 Pictures of Cats Eating Food They Shouldn't!'

True, journalists do not always act ethically, and online publications in particular seem to be letting these values slide by the wayside. (Boy, wouldn't it be great if we knew what outlet she allegedly works for so we could evaluate its reporting practices?)

However, in my opinion, it would be a colossal misjudgment to decide to act this baldly unethical in this context--taking advantage of a person with mental health issues? A person who is already represented by legal counsel? In the courthouse itself? This story is not big enough or interesting enough, and the ensuing shitstorm in this era of social justice warriors and online lynch mobs just doesn't seem worth it.

Moreover, this is not a new legal matter, and no one else has reported being approached for an interview. The matter is ongoing, so there's no pressing deadline (further evidenced by the fact no article has yet been published.) It's not as though the reporter has been constantly rebuffed by potential sources and would need to resort to such methods.

I thought it might be Buzzfeed but when it came to the Jace story they did minimal work and just called him or copy and pasted what he said from another article (can't remember). The Jan/Jace thing was also way bigger and more interesting than this. If a site is actually trying to do a story on Chris and trying to depict him purely as a victim then it'd probably end up hurting Chris more in the end. The less attention, the better for Chris. His well-documented history and ability to quickly alienate people with good intentions tends to create a new batch of lolcow followers and trolls.

So yeah, if someone did an article that got a decent amount of exposure that shit would be hilarious.

Dude I kinda like you now. When you have egg on your face know that we're still cool.

So I think Chris is gonna make his hardest plea to the shrink to prove his woman soul and then get the necessary cred to join the ranks at lesbian prison. Where he will go thinking he will get hella laid and end up getting hella shanked

The story is not about the trial, its about Chris. Seven plus years of lunacy & a full website dedicated to his actions. A story could be spun in so many directions, every publication pandering to every crowd would be satisfied/outraged.

It comes down to money & trust. We have a female journalist who shows up when Chris contacts her. No one said she is a good reporter, in fact, based on how she has gone about gathering information, she is a pretty poor one. That aside, female reporter who has something (read: money/sex appeal) and can use that to get Chris to talk to her.

Oh who could forget that!

At least he's getting help. It'll be nice if something turns up over that.

Em, I believe it. At least it's not outside the realm of possibility. I also think Lipitor will spill the beans eventually, somehow. I mean, what's the point of going there, finding this shit out and then hiding it AFTER teasing everyone? What's the bloody point???

I don't think that Chris isn't newsworthy. Trannies are this year's zombies. Everyone wants to do a story on them. If I was some hip, young chick who worked for Buzzfeed or Vice, I'd invest a day trying to dig up some juicy info on OPL's cyberbullies. I also suspect some arm of NPR.

Also, I wish the court ordered therapy happened before Chris started on the Mexican estrogen. There may have been a faint glimmer of hope to get our old buddy back. Now it's just like watching someone slowly dying.

No offense at all to lipitor and anyone else who does the whole reporting thing, but a lot of the skullduggery, stealth, and such really does seem kind of silly.

Some people would find it troublesome or at least annoying to have to explain why their name shows up in Google searches related to Chris-Chan, as anyone remotely associated with him gets some weening.

Everyone on the forum must have their menstrual cycles in sync or something. So much rage over such a small thing.

There either was a reporter there or there wasn't. Nothing to get angry/self-righteous over.

Chris is being pushed to seek psychiatric help. This is a fairly big deal.

The rest of this thread is angry mudslinging for no real reason. Going to lock it to try to keep the autism from snowballing more than it already has.
