Trolling Ethics Debate Thread

I appreciate your respectful approach in all of this, so I will engage you in the same way. Why are you so interested in the life of someone who you obviously loathe? I personally follow Chris because I find his antics hilarious and find him a genuinely entertaining individual, but I feel you possess some sort of hatred of them.
The Chandlers frustrate me sometimes, in the same way a parent is frustrated watching a small child make the same mistake again and again, not learning from it. You may be interpreting my frustration and ire as genuine hatred for the Chandlers, which is incorrect. I didn't want to mention it on the forums, but I've actually materially helped the Chandlers to some extent since the house fire.
You referred to Barb as a "bitch" on multiple occasions and said that they don't deserve to have a nice life because they're awful people. I understand Chris is very dimwitted and antagonistic toward others, which is quite obvious in his dealings with Mary Lee Walsh and the Manajerks, but it seems to me that you get some sort of glee out of their suffering in misfortune during your updates on the 14BLC renovations and their rental property by sharing every minute detail of their life.
Have you ever had to deal with the Chandlers? I know what I'm talking about.
Also, I don't believe that I ever said that "they don't deserve to have a nice life because they're awful people". The Chandlers are the horrible choices they make, not horrible people.
It strikes me as being creepy and obsessive and I'm sure a lot of people on this forum agree with me on that even if they're not willing to say that.
I have little to no control over what you, or anybody else, thinks of me, and that's fine. I know that my approval rating on the forums isn't going to be 100%, and I'm OK with that.

If you don't hate their guts like I assumed and actually feel bad about them and are an actual White Knight, then why share their pain and suffering with the internet for reasons other than to get people to like you? I don't see how the actions of you and Thetan sharing his personal details are helping in any sort of way other than providing entertainment.
Because I hope to God that people learn from the mistakes the Chandlers have made, and that it prevents others from going down the same path.

I'm just here for the lulz, people can do what they want to get them as long as Chrissy isn't directly hurt as a consequence. And as we've seen with the grundle piercings, he's going to hurt himself anyway so whatever. It's like complaining that someone farted onto a raging bonfire; whether they did it or not, that fire is still gonna burn and their contribution isn't really gonna affect it other than amusing the people watching.
So......keep farting on the bonfire I guess!
(I suck at metaphors)

I'm not really on board with condemning Skyraider for what he's done, apart from being a little uncomfortable with it, nor do I really think he's a total A-Log or anything, but I will grant you that "Garbageraider" is pretty funny. I don't know if I'd call him that regularly, but it got a good chuckle out of me.
I thought that the photoshop of my avatar in the horde a few months back as "horderaider" was pretty funny, to be honest.

Can we dress you up with two pistols and a cute tank top for the new Sonichu game, Horderaider : Anchuent Prophecy?

There are a lot of really fucked people who post on these forums, especially considering the subject matter and the amount of trollshielding that goes on in discussion, but do you think people willingly decide "I'm going to never throw anything away and live in complete utter filth"? Do you think that you're actually saving people from a life of living in squalor and hoarding? Most people don't do it consciously, it just happens and people feel overwhelmed by their circumstances or it's a result of mental illness. My main issue is that you take a high or mighty path, but continue to humiliate or ridicule them. It's one thing to do it because you think it's for pure entertainment, but it's another thing to take such a high and mighty approach by thinking you're some sort of benevolent saint and helping other people by exposing how fucked up the Chandlers are. I'll be back in a bit to discuss this more in a few hours, but I have to catch some sleep before work. I hope the people who are clicking "agree" with my posts will contribute to this discussion in a meaningful manner while I'm gone so I can avoid responsibility at work.

Sure. Sega can be the developer. We can have an end sequence similar to the beginning of the movie "Raiders of The Lost Ark", only it's Horderaider going after Chris's homework, not Indiana Jones going after a ancient artifact.

Intentionally or not, your choice of words perfectly illustrates the two elements of your on-forum personality which I most dislike: your paternalism and your moralising.

Troll lightly, and for the lulz, or not at all.

I never clicked agree so hard in my life. You summed up what my rambling tl;dr posts meant to say in just a sentence.

No. I'm not a hero or a saint. I don't know what impact my actions will have in the long term, but I can say that I've acted in good faith always. I've never been afraid to be bold and speak my mind, or to make a controversial decision.

I apologize if I've come across as an arrogant snob. If you or anyone else has an issue with me, just PM me man and we can talk about it. I'm for real.

As long as the trolling isn't causing any permanent harm to Chris, I don't see the problem with it. Chris's seems to forget or distort everything that happens to him, and if anything most of the trolling has either been beneficial to him or harmless. The only time I had a problem with the trolling was BlueSpike and the medallion incident.

I do tend to speak with a voice of authority, but I think that's somewhat fair because I know more about Chris than most people do, and have access to exclusive information sources.
That does not mean that I'm infallible or better than anyone else. Also, I don't try to be condescending or rude to anyone.
I'm not above reproach. If I'm wrong, call me out and correct me. I am not god.

Hell, I'm not even Null.

"Horderaider" is good too, I just keep imagining this, though:

I don't understand what you accomplished by posting his scorched homework, I'm pretty sure Chris' actions over the past ten years have shown that Chris' Honor Roll ranking is on par with the special ed kids I went to high school with who achieved Honor Roll status.

He entertained me, although I suppose that's not much of an accomplishment is it?

It took a community to drive some things home to Chris that his family and life did not or could not. He doesn't have common sense, I assume due to autism. Not all his trolls were Bluespike.

I realize I'm still fairly new in this community and I'm pretty sure I've seen someone raise the point before that we seem to be the closest thing Chris has to a replacement Barb. Something inside says that's not normal, but Chris isn't normal.

Also, are ethics and morals the same thing or just parallels in this discussion?

EDIT: because good advice.

The way I understand it 'ethics' refers to guidelines laid out by other people and 'morals' refers to a person's own personal guidelines, so someone pretending to be an ex gal pal to get Chris to lose weight would be acting according to their own morals but their actions would be seen as unethical....at least thats my interpretation of it.

I don't like when trolls or whomever uses the excuse "well you guys only think this way because you don't know the whole truth" or "there's so much more you guys aren't aware of yet". Who's fault is that exactly? Cuz it's not ours. We will make our opinions of those that troll Chris based on what we know; so for example, all we know is that Skyraider somehow got Chris's shit from the burnt hoard. This means he either A) dug through trash, which is creepy, or B) used his job as a way to get the shit, which is also creepy and likely broke some job rules. If there was any other way he got this, we don't know about it and thusly can't base our views of him off of it.

There are, of course, trolls that we know enough about to make an opinion on, for example: BlueSpike, I think most everyone can agree he went way too far; but I think the line that people like Skyraider and Renee and Catie walk is very blurred and can set people off.

Note: this wasn't meant as a "I hate skyraider" post because I don't hate him, I just disagree with his means to get hilarious content.

I don't know if there is any proper definition of "trolling" Chris at this point since it seems to just fall under the banner of "anything that disrupts his life to produce content."

With that, the only trolling I've ever found funny is when people play outlandish characters in order to essentially mock Chris' bad behavior with the hope he takes the hook. Clyde Cash, Surfshack Tito, and yes, even Julaaayyy from Molvania were all pretty funny ideas that luckily enough got Chris on the hook. What they did withh their personas is debateable but the concept was funny to me to see Chris flip out over these ridiculously fake people.

Nowadays though it's all about impersonating real people which has not been funny in the least. It's really just weird and creepy, honestly. The content hasn't been great so that doesn't even justify it. I can't read the minds of the people who go to this length for Chris content, but to me it just seems born out of a real hatred for him as opposed to making him do anything remotely entertaining. Are his personal documents and private, depressing emails really that funny?

Recognition? Nah. That was one of very few times I've ever been in #sonichu, and at that point I wasn't even registered on this forum. Back then the Chris trolling situation was pretty different. He was very, very quiet. I was curious as to whether PVCC were still in contact with him and how close it was, and whether anyone was trolling him. I'd previously, using a different pseudonym, asked Canine straight up but he didn't give me a straight answer. So I thought I'd try a different tactic.

I also kinda wanted to have a bit of fun by inflaming Canine. He derives a lot of his self-esteem from being more knowledgable about Chris than anyone else, so I knew I'd wind him up a bit by claiming to know something that he didn't, and he'd be desperate to try to shoot me down. It wasn't a sting, I just wanted to have a chat with him in a different context.

But in any case it doesn't matter if you believe me, I just wanted to explain the log, and to make it clear that I wasn't actually trolling Chris. As long as you believe me about that part then I don't really see how you can call me a hypocrite, which is what I think you were implying.
