I don't think it was so much him comprehending it as advertising for himself, but instead it is again another sign (no pun intended) of Chris' more passive nature and expecting people to just "get it." It would take effort and possible hurtful truths learned for him to walk up to a girl and just say, "Hi, I'm Chris. Just noticed you're wearing the same kind of lip gloss I like. Can I buy you a Coke and we can discuss makeup techniques?" or whatever. Instead, he breaks out the arts and crafts, makes himself a sign and expects any prospective girl to just be immediately attracted to a man carrying "Nintendo DS, GBAVideos, GBAJukebox, my Sonichu Scrapbook."
