I think the funniest thing I've seen are videos of people talking about how great Unity was and how they wish the series would go back to that when I clearly remember everyone hating on Unity and thinking it was dogshit when it released.

The only good thing about AC Unity is its lighting system.

Bro, I remember back in 2008 when everyone thought the first Ass Creed was the most boring, repetitive shitty barebones open-world GTA copycat of all time.

This series was never good.

Assassin's Creed II was great. Brotherhood was good too, but mainly because it felt like an expansion pack to the second game that somehow got released as a separate game.

I can't remember AssCreed getting the "generic Ubisoft game" label up until the later games and spinoffs using the empty open world and generic action adventure RPG playstyle.
The first games had great world architecture so at least there was fun climbing shit. You could stealth though by Brotherhood you were basically unkillable in combat. Really the only reason to be stealthy is because some missions had it as requirement.

The best parts of Ass Creed for me where the emails you could read in the first two talking about people ripping their eyes out and going insane in the Denver airport after exposure to artifacts. The modern day stuff and some sort of threat. Then it turned into...I don't remember but I want to say ancient aliens? Can someone explain what the fucking lore is at this point?

Nobody ever read that stuff. Playing the Switch port of three I discovered a ton of grammatical errors ("it" instead of "is", etc.) in the in-game glossary and mission descriptions. This was because no-one proofread the final build and other than my own review of it I have literally never seen another person mention it -aka- nobody else bothered reading them.

would go back to that when I clearly remember everyone hating on Unity and thinking it was dogshit when it released.
it had a lot of bugs on release to the point they gave out the DLC plus another game for free to people that brought the game as an apology! plus the controversy over the whole gender thing meant game journalists went after it hard, those hitpieces were right before gamergate too so every game reviewer on youtube giving it shit really led to people thinking the game was shit. its like No Man's Sky, release was so shit but if you picked up the game years later its great.

because it ran like absolute ass, and ubishit in true ubisoft fashion tried to blame everyone but themselves: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/4111...n-s-creed-unity-s-poor-performance/index.html
it was so bad they gave people who bought the season pass free shit and tried to extort players: https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/free-game-assassins-creed-unity-comes-catch/

when it DID run, it was pretty good. of course not everyone was on board with the changes to the formula, but that's always the case with change.

I thought the problem with Mirage was it was too much like Assassins Creed 1?

I don't know, I stopped playing them after Black Flag. I don't think AC fans will ever be happy again.
gee, why would players of an IP that drastically changed formulas be unhappy if the company goes back to the former instead continuing with the latter they enjoy while everyone else left years ago because of it?

Nobody knows. Not even the writers themselves. Originally it was pretty neat but as the overall quality of writers has declined, its cheap gimmicks and telling, not showing, and it still doesn't make any logical sense whatsoever.

They really mean the pre-unity games don't they? Like old AC vs new diablo loot, spongy enemies AC.

plus the controversy over the whole gender thing meant game journalists went after it hard
I love how they had a coordinated push based on a false pre-tense. They all decided this was the time to harp on about it and ever since every single game has wasted countless hours and dollars making it so you can always pick between male and female.

I always found the futuristic/modern day sections of those games retarded. Just let me play as the guy without all the pseudo science crap that makes no sense, anyways. Unless they plan to make a game where you're a futuristic Assassin in that same universe, why even fucking bother? We already had a game series for that, it was called "Splinter Cell" before those bastards snuffed it.
Also, fuck AC for killing off Prince of Persia. The original game was going to be another Prince game originally, and I bet because of the re-branding we instead got the awful 2008 game as a result.

I'm sure they had a plan for the future shit but it was probably 8 writers ago at this stage

Did Bhalsim get a proper voice actor for Mirage? He was fucking awful in Valhalla.

Might as well spend a quid on Ubisoft+ to play around with it.

So basically I should expect anything that gamers say suck ass to be beloved within 3 to 5 years.

Well it was the framing device that linked the games, though it was clear they hadn't planned it out at all and just came up with a new cliffhanger each time to end on. The end of 2 gave hints at a genuinely interesting story but without even checking I bet the writers changed after.

I don't even know what the story is these days I never got past 4.

Yeah, all of the writers left over the course of the AC2 spinoffs, the AC3 team "wrapped it up" and I haven't played beyond that point but its clear that whatever ending was planned did not happen and will never happen.

Which also explains the nonsense and confusion AssCreed offered throughout the years
