Yeah, all of the writers left over the course of the AC2 spinoffs, the AC3 team "wrapped it up" and I haven't played beyond that point but its clear that whatever ending was planned did not happen and will never happen.
AC3 actually did wrap up the initial storyline pretty neatly. But instead of running with the plot hook they dropped at the end of AC3 and continued on a bit with Black Flag and Rogue (an evil Precursor who wants to turn mankind into her personal slave species like the good old days resurrecting herself as an AI through the Internet), they've dropped that and gone with some weird plot that's yet another impending natural catastrophe mixed with random Precursor internecine rivalries that have persisted for god knows how long, and apparently the Templars and Assassins are just their pawns in that conflict. Lovely.

I hadn't played an AC game since AC2 but decided to try Valhalla since I've been reading about English history recently. It's completely unrecognisable from the earlier games besides for the 5 minutes an assassin showed up to give me a hidden blade, but I guess it works as a generic action adventure game. Apparently the next one will be set in feudal Japan, which feels like a recipe for disaster since it'll be just be a worse version of Ghost of Tsushima.

imo the main appeal of these is the historical tourism angle, and I'm not sure why they decided to go down the route of supernatural bullshit with aliens posing as ancient gods(?) and bland ARPG gameplay. I'm not a zoomer though so perhaps I'm not the target audience. AC2 ended with you fistfighting the Pope in the Vatican so maybe they've just always been shit.

So basically I should expect anything that gamers say suck ass to be beloved within 3 to 5 years.
it depends on if the devs care, Fallout 76 is still dogshit.
I thought the story was that they had a plan for AC 1 to AC 3, but then they decided to do the AC2 spin offs and it fucked everything up. (which is why they needed to kill off whats her name in such an unceremonious fashion because they only contracted Kristen Bell for 3 games and she was demanding royalties to appear in further games)
while true, its not like it would have been worth having her get royalties for appearing in four more games at maximum.

also IIRC paris was supposed to be the next place instead of the US for AC3.

Unfortunately, the historical tourism angle is getting less and less attention as the series goes on; even discounting how they changed stuff for the sake of inclusion (literally their words in several Odyssey moments), the major plot points are so far detached from reality even a cursory knowledge of history shatters disbelief.

Black Flag 4 struck a solid balance with its framing device- there's an argument to be had if "in universe" censorship is just goofier out of game censorship, but I won't touch that - allowing a more sanitised presentation to live alongside historical documentation that really felt as if the writers were passionate. Valhalla, by comparison, has democratic vikings in an egalitarian society fighting for freedom and equality. That, uh, doesn't really mesh as well.

Literally just change the character's VA, nobody and I do mean nobody, cares about who voices the side characters. I played those games when they were new and didn't even know she was in them.

thought the problem with Mirage was it was too much like Assassins Creed 1?
To journos it's not long enough and is 'outdated' I.E. not full of enough lootboxes and Witcherism. To classic fans (the intended audience) it still feels too much like Valhalla to be a worthy AC title.
I think the funniest thing I've seen are videos of people talking about how great Unity was and how they wish the series would go back to that when I clearly remember everyone hating on Unity and thinking it was dogshit when it released.
It was broken and buggy and is in many ways still unplayable, and even then it's still a massive step back from the classic games in terms of world and crowd reactivity (two understated but major selling points of AC-Revelations) as well as introduced the absolutely cancerous Helix system AND the RPG shit everyone hated. A Parisian guard that's level 1 will die to a slight cough but the same exact guy that is level 10 will rape your face till there's nothing left if you aren't appropriately geared. Oh, and it has builds too. In many ways Unity is the same exact shit people hate Origins-Valhalla for, just with an actual parkour system and admittedly good assassination missions.

Just bought the Watch Dogs: Legion Gold Edition for $20. Now I own each completed version of the Watch Dogs series. Ubisoft should just sell their IPs.
was bit of a step down from the previous 2 games. had an interesting premise for the gameplay at least. execution of said premise was a bit lackluster tho

Ubisoft has "mystery big game" that will release until April:

They are considering Just Dance DLC pack as a game, what a bunch of jokers, also no mention of The Division Heartland and the other AssCreed games.
Both Skull and Bones and "mystery big game" has been delayed.
A bunch of articles claiming the game was Star Wars, but I believe it isn't the case.

Double post because I saw this on the Ubisoft launcher. More games will lose their online features:

Decommissioning Some Online Services in January

Last year, we posted an article on decommissioning online services for some older games. Today we have an update for you, as some additional online services will be decommissioned across several platforms on January 25, 2024.
Decommissioning such services for older games is not something we take lightly, but is a necessity as the technology that drove those services has grown obsolete.
Below, you can find a list of the games and platforms affected. For a detailed breakdown of the effects of this decommissioning, please refer to our updated self-help article.
  • Assassin's Creed II - Xbox 360
  • Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - MAC
  • Assassin's Creed Liberation HD - PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
  • Assassin's Creed Revelations - PC
  • Ghost Recon Future Soldier - PC
  • Heroes of Might and Magic VI - PC
  • NCIS - PC
  • R.U.S.E - PC
  • Splinter Cell: Conviction - XBox 360
  • Trials Evolution - PC
Rest assured that the decommissioning of online services will only affect certain online functionalities; if you purchased these games, you will still be able to play them.

Skull & Bones delayed again? I wonder how much money Ubisoft has wasted on this project. After all these years they can't even ship it as a minimum viable product.
Why is the Skull & Bones development such a fucking mess when presumably they can repurpose models, animations, rigging, environments ect from Black Flag?

They have tons of the work already done.

I will go out on a limb and say that the game lacks any real coherent, long term vision, and reason for the delay is because they realize this and that will not sustain an online game going forward.
