Ubisoft Wants to Change the ‘Far Cry Formula’ with Far Cry 7 and Maverick

  • Far Cry series currently has two games in development, which were both originally under the same game and codenamed Talisker.
  • Its next mainline title is now under the codename Blackbird, and an extraction-based shooter is under the codename Maverick.
  • Both games are still in development at the time of writing, but their release dates have been pushed back internally from 2025 to 2026 due to complexities in development.
  • Maverick, which takes place in the Alaskan wilderness, will see players fight one another, animals, and the harsh weather to survive.
  • Blackbird will now see the player have to rescue his family, who have been kidnapped by a conspiracy cult who have been performing hallucinogenic experiments on animals and children. It’s said that the player has 24 real-life hours (72 hours in-game) to rescue their family, and the timer is reflected in-game by the player wearing a watch on his wrist.
  • Both games have had a significant overhaul to their movement systems, too, including the addition of tactical spriting, sliding, vaulting, and more.

Smart move by Ubi. By forcing player to replay the same segments time after time until he finds correct way to complete game in the time limit allows developer to produce even less content than expected from 70$ game and market it as innovative.

Can we go back to the "white man kills minorities in remote location" formula? Seemed to work out so well for FC3.

Either that or a remake of FC4 where we can side with Pagan.

So the story is a Temu version of Far Cry 5 but this time they can't be bothered to create an open world to explore.

Oh great, another flavor-of-the-month game that will come out once the trend is over.

don't forget

I don't play extraction shooters, but isn't the whole point collecting shit to "extract" with? what you're supposed to extract in bumfuck nowhere, snowflakes? fighting each other isn't even the point, getting your shit out is (which sometimes involves fighting, but it's not the real goal).

it's even more baffling when you consider that division was one of the games that somewhat established that whole subgenre (division 1 with the dark zone came out in 2016, tarkov only came out a year later. both heavily inspired by dayz), literally all they had to do is spin-off their own game in a new city where the whole map works as a dark zone and slap a pve mode for the casuals on it. imagine a dark zone: london or dark zone: paris. it's mindboggling.

but then it's the same company that was sitting on the whole tom clancy catalogue for years and all they could muster was 4v4 multiplayer in ghost recon. meanwhile you got chink delta force cloning 2042 and tarkov for cheap and still getting 100k players on steam alone.

otoh not surprising when you hire anyone than actual people that play videogames...

Exactly. Also about The Division, the first game had a Survival mode, a free-for-all where people had to find heat sources to remain alive.

"Here's our glorious plan. You guys give us a lot of money and we stay in control."
I can't believe people bought stock thinking these idiots were gonna be able to secure a buyout. The only thing worse than their games are their negotiations to sell their bankrupt company.

you'd have to replace half the workforce since they're fully infested with DEI, and there's a lot of them. and while doing so you won't make any money till you get the new staff up to speed.
I easily believe you could cut half of ubisoft and not see a drop in quality or production time in their games.

Both games have had a significant overhaul to their movement systems, too, including the addition of tactical spriting, sliding, vaulting, and more.
Instead of climbing the tower slowly you may now run up the tower and you're on a time limit.

You're being too generous here. I think you'd need to purge 80% of the company, if not more, to get the rot out. Ubisoft has been marinating in the DEI stew for a long time, and if nothing else, leftists are good at sniffing out nonbelievers.

Not that I think there's any saving the company without replacing the whole leadership, from the CEO to the middle managers, since that's where the rot originates from.

Ubisoft has been very quiet about shadows. 85 days have passed without them even mentioning it on X.

they’re going to cancel it and write it off on tax I bet. We have to pray for the Rayman game to sell numbers (I love rayman so much bros, day 1 purchase)

r2 > r3 > all ubiart games except mini > r1 > spin-offs

I'm reveling in the schadenfreude, they were so unbelievably fucking smug and condescending when they revealed Shadows and Kang Samurai.

Eat shit.
I don't know... it became so unironically racist it kinda won me over...

Your telling me playing a kang samurai crushing in the skulls of fleeing japs begging for mercy all while explaining how violence is tragic and a failing of the soul to shittt rap music isn't peek humor?

That would have been funny unfortunately allegedly one of the things they're doing for the final release is removing the hip hop battle theme.

We'll see if it even comes out.

I hope not that is the icing on the cake... it's just a muffin without it.

Nah man, the fact they are going to release a "Black man in San Fran" simulation during Black History month right before being crushing by the game 100% made by white people, for white people, based upon real white people, is the real icing.

The hip hop battle theme is just the sprinkles at this point.

They're going to make Rayman fat, gay, retarded, and 70-110 dollars.

If I cared enough to pirate it. I would make tons of clips of me cutting Japense people's heads off to hip hop with #StopAsianHate hashtags.

ubisoft is so big because they own most of their support studios instead of simply outsourcing (most likely for tax incentives), if you remove the top half and where the shit trickles down from, the rest should probably be able to produce something good... even if india is bad example, but that's india. SEA and eastern europe do fine producing non-slop.

I mean remember all that butthurt about that bucharest studio doing MUH SOGGY KNEES or how the dlc studio trolled played via achievements.

So, Far Cry: Dead Rising.

Sounds like Ghost Recon. I hope we'll have a Black eskimo. Can we say "eskimo?"
