Ubisoft Sellout - Bankruptcy Speedrun Any% Thread

It is rather baffling that they never put it on steam,
Ubisoft's love-hate relationship with Steam is perplexing. I dunno what data they have that's encouraged them to keep forcing their shitty launcher on people for years.
It was really good. If you liked Metroid: Dread, you'd enjoy PoP: The Lost Crown.
I personally hated The Lost Crown but if you pick up what it's putting down there's a huge amount of content to enjoy.

The data where the companies that control the big launchers and storefronts (aka Steam, Epic Games, etc) make the biggest piles of money imaginable is the data. Valve being sixteen times the value of Ubisoft despite having ~350 employees (compared to the ~21,000 at Ubisoft, lol) is the reason that every company runs (or ran and then gave up on) their own launcher and storefront.

got around to playing Far Cry 6 this week, theres a few mildly woke lines but other than that I am mostly enjoying it gameplay and storywise
It's a fucking commie game, you play as a "badass" bossy girl bitch feminist warrior, are you retarded. As if there aren't enough non-woke FPS to play. Did you spend money on it, if yes, congratulation you financed wokeness. I hope you aren't White.

their newer prince of persia game (not the dead cell developers one) wasnt that bad and actually had decent gameplay going into it

I figured that was their reasoning, but do they not understand the appeal of the good launchers is the huge variety of content on offer? Even Sony or Nintendo would struggle if they refused to sell anything but their own games (hell just look at the pushback the former got with the Helldivers 2/PSN bullshit).

Even EA I could almost understand because at least they have a bunch of different genres of game, but with Ubisoft it's all the exact same sandbox slop reskinned in a variety of ways. And Just Dance.

lol calm down

They don't. This decision making was typically made up by your finance types who don't engage with the product. The idea was that you build up an install base with your own products and then leverage the service to your competitors, selling their products on your platform. It's essentially what Steam (and Netflix) already did but it was so much money that basically every company on earth is chasing it (see also - Television and Movie apps).

It's also worth noting that there was a time where studios like Ubisoft would have to pay Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo a fee of (rumored) $40,000 per patch (which is why some games got slower/no updates on consoles compared to PC) - so this was a way to reclaim that cost as well, although it's been discontinued for some time now.

And that is how you get people claiming there is no woke shit in games, when the game is full of woke shit, lol..
I never said it wasn't there, just that I didn't see it. As long as I can skip it I don't really care; video games aren't that important.

So it's similar to Sony's current retarded Live Service obsession. Keep shitting them out and shovelling money into the furnace because if even one of them sticks it'll make all the other failures worth it.

Basically, yeah.

For context, Ubisoft is worth about 1.5 billion dollars. Fortnite (by itself) is said to generate roughly $4 to $20 billion dollars per year. Fortnite makes enough money to buy the entirety of Ubisoft outright twice each year, at least. Valve makes roughly $7 billion per year - enough to buy Ubisoft four times each year. That's the kind of money they're chasing, the kind of money that every AAA studio is chasing.

For additional context, Sony's net profit for 2024 was $7.3 billion, although that encapsulates all of Sony's holdings, not just games. Put in context that's about 5 Ubisofts or 18,250-36,500 Concords depending on whose budget reports you believe.
It's funny how Concord shuttered a studio, sent loads of people's careers to the wind, and instigated months of gay drama hyped up to be the failure to end all industry failures, but to the higher ups at Sony, they don't know what a Concord is and its impact was no more felt than a clerical error.

It’s even funnier how even after its massive collapse, the Concord thread still has current activity and more eyes on it than the GAME ever had.

I adore that. The game has received more attention (everywhere, not just on KF) for its comical failure than it ever did as an actual entertainment product. It's proof that "Tortanic" wasn't a one-off and we can look forward to more and more industry faceplants to keep us entertained indefinitely.

The leaked build of the game that technically can't even go past it's menu has more players than the actual fully-functioning game did.

It's like Lincoln's corpse ran in the election & got somehow more votes than Lincoln did alive.
