Undertale

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Just wait, after the scene where Asgore was talking to the katana in the mansion, I think that the thing that made Asgore and Toriel break up and Asgore lose his police job isn't going to be treated serious like having to kill someone, it's probably gonna be some stupid shit, which will lead to a dumbing down.
I don't agree so at all, Toby's gone out of his way to highlight Asgore and Toriel failing Kris at pretty much every turn. His half of the room is barren and the entire ending of chapter 4 is a scene meant to make the player feel bad for Kris having to put up with Toriel.
Not only that but the only hints about the breakup we do have is that it has to do with Asgore failing to prove something in the past and probably involves whatever information Kris was trying to hide from the player in the Police Station. If you Look into the east window of his shop he also has a conspiracy corkboard similar to what Carol has in her room.
I don't think Toby would put so much focus on something just for it to be a joke, or to make Asgore and Toriel look stupid. Especially if Toriel was involved in Dess' disappearance, which would make her responsible for what happened to Asgore.
That's not even mentioning how the most obvious thing that is that this all probably connects to is Dess. The main candidate for being the Knight and the girl whose disappearance seemingly kicked off everything in the first place.

This is just a thought I've had, but why couldn't we just explore the "game" worlds normally in ch. 3? Maybe it's contextualized as some virtual stage that tenna gives commentary over, and other characters like the weather couple I forget the names of could just be in there as "actors", Maybe have the enemies play dress up as level-specific monsters and play into that with their attack patterns.
Maybe add some filters and some new character sprites to make it look a little like a game console but just keep the gameplay the same as the rest of the game.
Genuinely what was the point of turning the game into a discount Zelda?

Felt the need to post my theorycrafting here:

Don't know how many people here are familiar with Undertale, but there's a part where you can talk to Gerson at his archeology shop and ask him about the meaning of the Delta Rune. He says that "the original meaning has been lost to time" and that the emblem "predates written history". He states that the three triangles under the circle represent the monsters below, and that the circle with wings represents an "angel" sent to bring the monsters freedom: freedom from the Underground or from this mortal coil, depending on who you ask.

I think, based on Ralsei's story of the Prophecy, where he calls the end of the world "Angel's Heaven", that the Deltarune itself is code for some kind of angel. Furthermore, I think the events of this game are being facilitated with the express purpose of engineering this doomsday scenario in order to summon this angel (and potentially gain control of it somehow).

I'm not gonna propose "Simulation Theory" since that's lame and gay. I don't even want it to be Gaster behind this whole scenario, just a "third party" entity who wants to assume control of the angel directly, and needs the cooperation of a human soul in order to fulfill the prophecy. At first I thought it might be Carol who's trying to get control of the angel; I even thought the Knight might've been Carol, all souped up on Darkness or something, but Dess probably makes more sense.

It's kind of strange how frequently this prophecy of Deltarune is repeated in-universe across multiple different mediums. The prophecy is not only about the events of the game; the details of this prophecy are depicted in the town's religion, a best-selling fantasy novel, and a popular video game series, which hammers home two things:

1. The nature of this prophecy is destined to repeat itself cyclically.
2. The people involved are shackled to this prophecy, unable to escape their fate.

Many people in this thread touched on the topic of freedom, and how every secret boss you fight for a ShadowCrystal or ShadowMantle mentions freedom either directly or indirectly. Jevil claims he's "alone in his freedom", perhaps seeing everyone outside his jail cell as slaves to the prophecy. Spamton tries to break free and see into "heaven" but can't break free of his strings. Ramb makes mention of the original, unmodified version of the game that lets "you decide what happens" (not sure if this is more directed at Kris or the player), and Gerson directly asks Susie what kind of ending she wants to choose.

There's a line during the sermon section in Ch. 4 where Susie ribs Kris about "summoning a demon" when they were younger. I think that, paired with the bit of dialogue from Ch. 3 about how "the forbidden path began with ice magic" makes me believe that Kris, Dess, and maybe Asriel dabbled with the Dark World a few years back. Maybe Dess got a bit too carried away with the feeling of empowerment being in the Dark World gave her, and things went south from there. Whatever happened probably took place in the Shelter as well, since Kris fights against your inputs when you try to go there towards the end of the Sword Route.

Overall I liked Chapter 4, and Chapter 3 was carried only by how much you like Tenna. The Zelda-esque segments did wear pretty thin by the end. I'm really hoping the next three chapters don't take another five years to complete...

This is what I mean by meme-y dialogue.

The tutu thing is kind of cute. This is dumb.

ok so ive replayed ch3 doing all of the secrets and at this point im mad that toby locked the only good parts of the zelda game behind a fucking secret. the backstage version of the game is a lil creepy and mainly its relevant to deltarune events and has some actual gameplay where you fight stuff so its not just a walking simulator, and the boss fight is pretty fun and a change of pace from the typical deltarune turn based fights.
but if you follow the advice you get before the show ("dont take the rankings too seriously") and dont get s rank in the first round then you will never get to see any of it and are stuck playing the gay boring version only without having any clue that theres more to it. that is pretty retarded. i get that a secret is a secret but letting the player just miss out on the most interesting part of the chapter (lore-wise) if they dont bother farming enough points in a shitty game seems like stupidly bad design

About that: Maybe it's different in America, but usually prizes and such are gifted after winning something, not given, so maybe Kris did fuck all in his life and now he's envious of his more successful brother, commie-style? He should be able to afford a poster at least, but not even that. Maybe he was not given a choice, seeing his parents don't know about his piano-playing?

If you Look into the east window of his shop he also has a conspiracy corkboard similar to what Carol has in her room.
Rats, I missed that, as I don't recall seeing that inside his shop in the first chapters.

that tenna gives commentary over
The event was meant to be a Mystery Theater thing with commentary, but IMO it should have had more TV sections than Zelda ones.

and dont get s rank in the first round then you will never get to see any of it
There's a guy in the first round you can pay 1000 points or so to get a S rank illegally. It only works for one round though, but for Reason 2 is easy to get a S rank.

well yeah but my point is that its easy to just breeze through it without getting many points, buying the key in the game, buying items with points, etc. by the time you find this guy you might not have enough and you think "meh whatever" rather than savescumming to go back and buy the s rank. after all a fucking npc at the beginning of the chapter tells you the ranks dont matter. thats exactly how my first playthrough went. and when that happens toby might as well just let you skip to the chapter boss because youve just fucked yourself out of seeing anything interesting happen.

Wdym, participation awards are a worldwide thing in cucked countries nowadays.

Maybe the real reason Chris doesn't have anything on his side of the room is to avoid the SOVL from destroying their stuff. He already deletes recent calls, closes eyes on Asriel's search history and shit.

If anything what should be questioned is how Toriel is fine with a bloodstain in his room.

Nah you can do it in both rounds. Thankfully it doesn't increase if you do it the first round.

My Deltarune theory: Kris is not "Non-Binary" and is actually a BOY, can't wait to share my theory with the rest of the Deltarune community!

The second Toby or someone from the staff slips up and calls the obvious guy a "he", he'll be dogpiled and cancelled by the fanbase faster than you can scream "ROWLING!"
Speaking of psychos, one thing I noticed: Kris is seemingly a blatant furry, as in he really wants to be a dog. Considering he lives with a family of goats, he kind of has an excuse, sort of. Fortunately, unlike the stereotypes, Kris is not a creepy- OOops. Well, at least he's a furry but not a predato- Woops.

Accidental self-own, Toby!

I gotta say I already didn't like ralsei, but after it his attitude toward tenna being "Aww, don't be sad tenna, us darkners are literally imaginary slaves designed to be used, thrown away, and then forgotten, its literally why you were born." to not be particularily endearing. Especially considering nobody (mostly susie since chris is mute) seems to take issue with it.

I thought him getting to play as kris a in the videogame would help him develop a bit as a character since he would be the one leading, maybe he'd get a taste of initiative and leadership since susie outright tells him "You're the one leading now", make develop him some balls and start disagreeing with kris and susie, take the intiative, take action, be a fucking a person instead of a doormat, but it seems his character is perpetually doomed to just be the fucking prince of the doormats. His ability in the videogame is to literally turn into a doormat for susie and kris to step over.

At this point he's literally unckle ruckus except not even remotely as endearing or funny. He's unckle ruckus except without the confidence and balls that make unckle ruckus amazing. Unckle ruckus except submissive and subservient isn't a good fucking character.

Even when unckle ruckus prostrates himself to the white man he does it so agressively and with such gusto that it still looks like he's the one in charge.

Ralsei hasn't hasn't developed at all as a character during 3 chapters he's been in, and we haven't learned anything about his past. While everyone else seems to somewhat develop he seems to get more and more flanderized.

Toby was smart enough to have susie drop the "tough girl" act while maintaining her crassness, but ralsei keeps his soft boy act and he never grows or develops past it, its insane.

Of all the primary and secondary characters in the story I think he's the worst and that includes noele, 99% of her character is "uwu horny lesbian uwu horny lesbian uwu horny lesbian uwu horny lesbian uwu horny lesbia nuwu horny lesbian uwu horny lesbian" but at least there's still 1% left including her past with kris, her trauma over her sister, her standing up to the queen, snowgrave, etc.

Ralsei has nothing.

Oilspill Battery

I feel about Ralsei the same way I do about a lot of the characters in that it feels like we are forced to feel a certain way. Without going into the others, with Ralsei it's just UWU CUTE LITTLE SOFT FLUFFY BOY ISNT HE SO WHOLESOME DONT YOU WANT TO PROTECT HIM?
No. Not really I don't.

That said, him turning out to be a liar made me at least more curious about what else he knows. I actually think him doing shady and messed up things would bump the interest factor (I am starting to feel like I am just spiteful af because the running theme I have had with this game is that the wholesome isn't working on me the way Undertale did, so I root for the worst) But this sad little sweet boy with low self worth isn't really doing much for me.
