Undertale

I was never into VNs, so I’ll see myself out.
It's heavy on story and characters but it's not a VN, it's an RPG and most of the gameplay is exploration, puzzles and combat.

Sitting around talking is just what you do inbetween the actual game stuff, this isn't Persona where 95% of the game is cutscenes.

I went through all the highlights of this thread. Zero gameplay discussion. I don’t even know what kind of game this is. What this tells me is that this game must be shit and people are playing it because of some gay self-insert art bullshit or whatever.
It's dumb jokes, good music, bullethell and weird symbolism. There's not really much to talk about with the gameplay beyond the couple bullethell patterns that everyone hates just like there's nothing to talk about in every twitch-reflex game.

If you want an idea of where the difficulty goes here's a clone of one of the hardest fights in the series to give an idea of the kind of things we complain about (and give context for one of the most memetic game songs in the last decade)

I actually believe the whole "One Ending" thing.
After all, it could all be completely different right up until the final event. That seems pretty Toby.
Technically, UNDERTALE only has one ending anyway; You leave the UNDERGROUND. That's it.
Is that a cop-out?
Not on a genocide route, you don't.
Besides, in an interview, Toby gave a vague response about the ending, mentioning that the end is not the important part, but what happens on the way to it.

I'm still not sure what the plot relevance of Susie having a penis will be. Anyone got any good theories?
The penis is the downwards pointing triangle on the delta rune. The other triangles represent Kris's top surgery scars. The "angel" is actually Ralsei's puckered butthole with legs spread.

Speaking of Suselle, i was browsing the Krusie shipper's subreddit by chance and saw this post
The Krusie shipper's biggest enemy.webp
But what i want to focus is that in the comments of the post there was an interesting view on the Susie and Noelle romance.

Now, the question persists: Toby Fox, bad romance writer or 4D chess genius writer or just shippers coping?

Spending a little time on AO3 and fanfiction.net will show you that average dyke romance story written by the average woman is equally nonsensical, forced and retarded. Mary Sue McSelfinsert has to just walk into the room and suddenly everyone including Tomboy Armpitsweat is going to swoon over her as she just stands there with minimal output like a scarecrow.

This is why I firmly believe in the "new writers" theory, there's no "writers" section at the end of Ch4 credits, but many story instances in Ch3 and Ch4 were really off from Toby's style and seemed more like a tumblr AU. On the top of my mind
  • Susie's interactions with Gerson were something out of a Saturday morning cartoon. A rebellious teen is supposed to be rude to old men, not get advice from them and accept it.

  • Susie's backstory with Toriel was 100% unneeded, the fanon that Susie saw a caring parent for the first time in her life was much better than the canon "she drove me to the diner once".

  • The overuse of the flashbacks and furry therapy sessions. What happened to "show, don't tell"?

  • Worst for the last, Noelle invited Kris and Susie to her home with the excuse of a study session and at no point turns it into a date, Susie spergs about how she was in a band in dark world and plays the guitar poorly until Carol arrives. Then out of nowhere "guess who's taking your daughter out"??? Only a retarded tumblrite with mommy issues and no theory of mind could've come up with that scene. Lowest writing in the whole series up to now.

Chapter 1 Susie maybe but I think by this point in the story and everything that happened, her interactions with him felt appropriate. And with everything involving the legendary axe, I even think she liked his attitude. Gerson is far from a stereotypical frail, tired old man.

"guess who's taking your daughter out"
This was such an actual groan worthy shipping bait line though, between the Asgore truck and Noelle cuck chair memes, I'm glad that the UT/DR fanbase seems to be in its own version of the rebellious teen phase.

Oh come on the dynamic with Susie and Gerson was great. It's not like it wasn't earned; she treats him like a "rebellious teen" at first but eventually comes around due to Gerson's persistent kindness.

All part of Tricky Tony's kēikaku. He tasks the Tumblrites with writing all the Susie/Noelle scenes where they're together specifically because they'll make a mess of it, it's foreshadowing the grand rug pull.
