Undertale

I like how the monster religion is literally just pic related.

I mean, I guess Toby didn't want to start any shit but it has a large plot presence and I'm still mildly disappointed over how wishy-washy it all is.
I wanted something esoteric dammit.
That part is lame, but the actual belief systems seems to actually be worship around the angel of a doomsday prophecy (the prophecy), even if it says it's supposed to be stopped by the heroes before the world completely ends. I don't think it's been entirely specific on how closely the full prophecy is to what the monster religion says, yet the implication, with the unchangable prophecy revealed in the dark world(s) formed in the church, is that it must be pretty damn close. Dragon blazers is then based off of Gersons retelling of it in his books, right?

Toby builds off his inspirations as does everyone. Saying Deltarune is mostly or wholly made off twin peaks? Haven't seen it myself, some more knowledgeable have poked some holes.

Especially with Toby's claim Deltarunes built off a crazy ending for a game that he dreamed of in 2012 I don't see it being based on more than the first couple seasons.

The original Twin Peaks subconsciously inspiring a bulk of the themes and environment? I could see that.

I believe this video goes over all of the themes of inspiration to toby fox, its a really good video for anyone who wants to look at subtext, I doubt many deltarune fans know or have seen twin peaks and understand how it fits in so this is a really good summary and helps fill in those gaps :)

VERY loosely, but yes. Iirc Lord of the Hammer is based loosely on the prophecy (or rather the small portion of the prophecy that hasn't been lost to time) and DB is another degree away from that.

It's kinda how the Narnia movies are based mostly on the books and the books were inspired by Christian theological canon.

I've played that little scene in my second playthrough of the game when getting all of the secret bosses and the Shadow Crystals.

In just one swing that scene made them more believable as a couple and an incredibly cute chemistry when they are in the Light World than anything said on that Ferris Wheel scene in Chapter 2. I like to imagine that Kris drew them together and a heart in the middle or something, it was so cute.

The fact that we don't see them in this interaction is also a lot more meaningful. Even though you can still control him, Kris doesn't allow you to see this deep personal moment he has with her. That says a lot about how Kris sees Susie, and it's obvious that he cares so much about her after all that they went through together at this point.

So yeah, basically. I'm full aboard with mantaining the agenda.

I've heard a theory that the thing Kris wrote and then erased that Susie reacted to with "I can never tell when you're messing around" was actually something along the lines of "Someone is listening." or "We aren't alone." Leave it to Kris's mopey ass to fuck up a nice scene.

We as the player can't see what Kris writes, as the option is just "write something" and Kris has been able to wiggle room past our commands before. Though it being something sweet would be nice.

Wonder if Gaster's followers are bleeding into the real world. Jockington might not be long for this world.

There's the Rudinn that tells us his "color is fading" and calls castle town "player_name"town, which no one else has done.

Onion also just disappears after looking for the source of the music in the lake.

Maybe the whole place is unraveling and Jockington and the library bird are just particularly susceptible to whatever is happening. Undertale had some meta horror elements, I would expect Deltarune will too.
Now that I think about it, it IS crazy how some random Rudinn just casually names the place after the player, when it's never once implied, even from Ralsei, that that was its actual name.
I really do think the light and dark worlds are gonna continue getting less and less coherent as the game goes on, especially with chapter 4 being the first to FULLY break away from the idea of the dark worlds being fun getaway adventures.

Holy shit, that might be precisely what he could be writing, that changes completely the context of the scene. And it could be a brilliant move by Kris if he's slowly trying to get Susie to notice that they aren't alone all the time.

I wouldn't complain if that was the case, because that is actually brilliant, but I really hope otherwise the silly moment together was a thing. I like them too much as a duo.

coop got trapped in the black lodge and replaced by the doppelganger at the end of season 2, that much was clear and inambiguous even if youd never seen season 3. whoever is suggesting that this particular plot point took place only in s3 is full of shit. deltarune got teased/released as s3 was airing so toby drawing inspiration from there also isnt out of the question

the main resemblance to twin peaks comes from the slice of life setting and the fact that the story is heavily character driven, you spend most of your time interacting with various kooky but generally charming npcs in your small town and the writing often takes unexpected turns, breaks the 4th wall and is overall unpredictable as fuck. at first the story seems simple enough (dark pocket dimension in a storage closet, aint that cool) but it continues spiraling from there, layers and layers get added on until youre left scratching your head as to what the fuck is really going on, but it all still vaguely makes sense together even though now the motivations of the hometowners are getting highly questionable and theres now fucking interdimensional travel, eldritch horrors, prophecies being fulfilled and certain characters slowly going apeshit. just like laura palmers death directly or indirectly caused almost everyones life in twin peaks to totally unravel were starting to see something very similar in deltarune as of chapters 3/4. i hate to say it but toby really manages to tap into the lynchian weirdness font, the resemblance is very strong. not to mention he has a similar penchant for including creepy, campy and cringe moments just to fuck with you

i think part of the plot is that the deltarune religion actually IS a lot more esoteric than it appears or is widely accepted to be in hometown. There are obviously revelations-y things going down with the prophecy and future chapters are gonna get wierd with it. Theres probably a reason Kris (who probably knows more about whats going on because hes been to a dark world before) sleeps through service
