Undertale

Someone give ne a tl;dr of Yiik
Faggot liberal arts major comes home just in time for YIIK. Sammy Park gets kidnapped by a Starman from Earthbound and because Alyx had a fetish for Asian girls he becomes obsessed with the paranormal and tries to unravel various supernatural mysteries to find her.

It turns out he is literally the single most important person across the multiverse, has a robot GF who can reach across time and space, tries to fight the evil Alyx ball that comes to destroy his universe, fails, realizes he is a dumb ass and asks you for help and you do... something to save the world. I do not remember much else.

They did a massive I.V overhaul that basically soft patched a sequel into the game and fixed a lot of issues the original had but literally nobody has played it. There's maybe one video on YouTube about it. I have no idea what the new story shit is.

You start the game in a world/dimension that’s already broken and dying because your player character(who is an alternate version of you, the player) is such a massive piece of shit that every single version of himself/yourself causes the end of the world somehow.

You also want to fuck all the women in the game except the back one and your mom, including the robot that’s just another alternative version of you.

Add about 5 hours worth of pointless essay-length speeches that constantly contradict themselves and the rules of the world changing every other scene, and you’ve got YIIK.

So apparently there was a resurgence of an old animation a while back featuring MS Paint cows singing "We Built This City" by Starship, which has spawned several variants over the last couple of months, including at least three related to Deltarune. Now since I'm a real sucker for MS Paint animations, I thought I'd share my findings courtesy of the YouTube Algo.

The Cave Story version is pure SOVL.

Also, she's based on a real-life woman who died under suspicious circumstances that one of the creators became sexually obsessed with.
Bizarre "plot twists" like that keep appearing once you begin researching the game. It puts "House of Leaves" to shame.
Yeah, that was one of the things people ripped on them for. I don't think it's that big a deal to take inspiration from a real life spooky event but it's funny how transparent it is, and Alyx's obsession with this girl he met for all of like 1 hour definitely reads like sex obsession.

For all the gameplay mechanics and everything they spent so much time fixing in YIIK, it did nothing to fix the writing/dialogue which I’d argue was the worst part of the game.
From what little I have seen of I.V. they did apparently add a lot of writing and patch holes in things that seem more interesting/better than the old stuff, but I think a major reason nobody considers the game fixed is because they apparently make you play through the entire original game before any of the actually new better shit shows up.

Elisa Lam, a schizo asian woman who did some weird shit in and around an elevator of the Hotel Cecil before disappearing and being found dead in the hotels water tank later. The case became a staple of true crime spergs for years, and you had a lot of retards speculating it was related to the creepypasta ritual the elevator game, rather than an unfortunate death due to mental illness and poorly secured infrastructure. A lot of dumb internet shit converged to have the YIIK creator(s) have an analogue of her be integral to the plot.

Also, is Deltarune the first game to have a character aware they're being controlled and they hate you?
I beg anyone who didn't see this and immediately think Pacman 2 : The New Adventures to play it at some point. I've wondered ever since the soul-is-player reveal if it was an influence on DR since it's an extremely similar setup except played solely for laughs. Pacman is very well aware someone is controlling him but can't help but attempt to do the things you command him to as filtered through his current emotional state, e.g drop a paint bucket on his head so he's pissed off and then order him to buy a balloon from the balloon stand and he'll get verbally abusive with the balloon man, who will then kick his ass for it. Game is absolute kino and also the only game in history I can think of that rewards you for figuring out as many unique ways as possible to kill the protagonist.

I had it for the Sega Genesis. Fun game - I liked seeing his dumb reactions to things.

Alex alexes alexingly, and then he yiiks out and has a robo gf who may or may not be alternate timeline Alex, who helps you (not?) stop the ball of Alex from obliterating the the extended Alex universe. You can also bully Rory to death. Not a great game, honestly. Pacman 2 is way more fun.
