Following a recent (now deleted) tweet from digital distribution platform GOG.com, VG247 is pulling its support of the storefront for the foreseeable future.

In the past, our site has promoted GOG as a DRM-free alternative to Steam, and we’ve even supported the retailer with VG247-themed sales on the front page of the site.

Today, GOG tweeted out a promotional gif for Postal 2, which is not the problem. The gif contained an image of someone pissing on a headstone marked ‘games journalism’, which also isn’t the problem.

The problem is that the gif can be interpreted as a dogwhistle that panders to hate group GamerGate, which itself has been proven to lead to radicalism and even murder.

GamerGate has destroyed lives, and we’re very disappointed that GOG has furthered the divide between those who cover games and a vocal minority that hate games journalists, women, and minorities.

It could be that GOG didn’t know the significance of the dates on the headstone, but until we know the company is taking proper action to find out how this happened, we are pulling support.

Update: GOG.com has issued the following apology via Twitter:

“We’d like to follow up on our recent tweet about Postal 2 to share our apology and a few thoughts:

• The intention behind our tweet was to inform about a release known for controversial content.
• Unfortunately, we’ve failed to make the association between the image, the date, and an abusive movement.
• Our intention was never to hurt or condone hate.

“We have removed the tweet now, we clearly messed up here.”

Sometimes we include links to online retail stores. If you click on one and make a purchase we may receive a small commission. For more information, go here.

Meanwhile KiA and imageboards are reacting to the apology by saying they'll boycott GOG and download their releases skull and crossbones style. As for the apology well, you know the drill by now.....

"it isn't a bad thing, but it could be interpreted as a bad thing," AKA, "it's not a problem... but it is a problem"

I'd respect them more if they decided to man up and admit that a gif made them butthurt.

Why don't these people understand? You're supposed to own that shit and not apologize for it. They're going to REEEEEEEEEEEEE either way, so you might as well stand your ground while you're at it.

Because owning shit gives you bad press. Does not matter whatever the view is the very act of having a set view will alienate some (and more depending on what it is), and for a company like gog they don't want that. Heck none of them do.

Play it as safe as possible.

It's stupid to cave in since the people complaining were being whiny children but KiA and the imageboards boycotting GOG for apologizing is just as petty and exceptional. The Postal 2 managed to bring out some big tards in all of this.

Gamergate stole my car and fed my dog chocolate.
It burned my women and raped my church. Damn GamerGate terrorist.

Admitting a gif made them butthurt also means they ended up being spineless tools. As for standing your ground, the spergs on the other side could just play the vidya and such to own the people complaining and say "Eh, whatever, I'll just keep playing this game and piss on that in game tombstone". Instead, they act as the other side of the autistic coin.

Games Journalism was a whipping boy before GG happened. There was an entire Twitter account around 2011 or so called "Shit Game Journos Say", or something like that.

As I remember it, Mass Effect 3 was a crucial point for people taking games journalism less seriously, since a lot of outlets circled the wagons and defended EA for "artistic freedom" and shit. That was important to me personally, because it spurred me to stop feeding into the VG hype machine.

GOG and CDProjekt don't give enough fucks to care about Vaginzo247 pulling support.

EDIT: Oh damn. They apologized. You're not supposed to apologize.

Oh well. Not like I'm gonna delete my account over this. I've got too much sunk into it.

Also lets be honest at this point even your most basic bitch normie knows that game journo sites are trash. Let alone the more artsy fartsy faggy ones.

These people have no good will, and can burn for all I care. Faster they die off the better for not just the industry, but the entire human race.

Guild Wars 2, or at any rate Mike O'Brien, ignored the bad press from two weeks ago. And it has now all gone away, as best I can see. Proving (a) that Games Journalists have the attention span of fruit flies and (b) that Arenanet's customer base simply didn't care about the firings in the first place.

Not sure why GOG didn't draw some relevant conclusions before apologizing. Hell, nobody lost their job, it was just some silly meme. Though I doubt, just like with GW2, anybody really cares about this except for SJWs on Twitter. And I guess a few KiA autists.

SJW tards and KiA autist really are the only ones to care about it beyond any salt miners and people wondering what the screeching was all about.

Gamergate coming back from the grave to claim more victims lol
It's a zombie at this point. Get the shotgun.
