VG247 pulls support and coverage of GOG.com following pro GamerGate tweet - Some tweet of a Postal 2 DLC screenshot means supporting a dead hashtag.

postal 2 is the ultimate game. it has been fifteen years after it first came out and people are still getting mad about it.
Some may as well be mad enough that they think it's a bad game. By all indications, it's actually a good game since they're all more focused on being salty over a stupid tweet.

Why don't these people understand? You're supposed to own that shit and not apologize for it. They're going to REEEEEEEEEEEEE either way, so you might as well stand your ground while you're at it.

Yeah, I'm surprised companies still go for the grovelling on Twitter, thinking it will actually help anything. If anything telling people to fuck off will net you more media coverage either way. And these twitter activists are so weak willed they'll publicly denounce GOG while still using it privately anyway.

What sort of shit qualifications do you have to get to run these companies PR departments anyway? It's like they haven't got the faintest idea of how socioeconomics works.

That's pretty much how PR is now. It's all bluster and image, little actual understanding. The only hope I have is that since GOG's PR actually went with this tweet to begin with that they aren't the typical Liberal Arts PR that seems to be all the rage now. They just went back to how PR is supposed to act to a vocal minority which is old school logic that for every negative voice there's something like a thousand to match, very few companies seem to have learned that isn't the case anymore.

Gamergate caused a murder, huh? That's something I never knew. Let me just read up on tha-

Also Talking about Gamergate after 2014. Did someone not get the memo that it die off after a year?

The term "dog whistle" cannot possibly disappear from political discourse fast enough.
And we are already at "can be interpreted as a dog whistle". Stay tuned for "feels like it could be interpreted as an allusion to a dog whistle" as justification for your next favourite controversy!

Shamelessly stealing from the ZQ thread:
GOG bustin out that damage control.

• The intention behind our tweet was to inform about a release known for controversial content.
• Unfortunately, we've failed to make the association between the image, the date, and an abusive movement.
• Our intention was never to hurt or condone hate.

They should have just either ignored all the whining and moved on with their lives or simply deleted the tweet and pretended it never happened. Instead they traded one pissed-off group of internet autists for a different group of pissed-off internet autists. Good job I guess.

One of their employees is shitposting on ReetardERA about how the massive autistic cryfit totally wasn't a complete overreaction to fucking nothing and they're actually happy it happened hahaha ;)
Gee, for a bunch of people being concerned with making an association with an abusive movement... they sure do seem to enjoy the company of the most abusive gaming site.

Plenty more examples exist, I'm just picking the most recent that I like.

The problem is that the gif can be interpreted as a dogwhistle that panders to hate group GamerGate, which itself has been proven to lead to radicalism and even murder.
Oh dear fucking god talk about absolutely moronic "journalism" here. That fucking story about the guy killing his dad has nothing do with anything except for him being fucking crazy. "GamerGate literally leads to murder" is about the most retarded thing I have ever heard in journalism, which is saying a lot. Also, GamerGate is fucking dead, holy shit, move on already. Find something new to bitch about/blame everything on.

Imagine this, you get so upset by this:
The gif contained an image of someone pissing on a headstone marked ‘games journalism’
that you decide write an article PROVING that games journalism is the absolute fucking lowest, most fake-news cult-of-outrage bullshit on the planet. You just validated the tweet that pissed you off. NICE GOING.

What? Did I enter 2014? This is getting ridiculous! GamerGate is as dead as the Titanic. Stop bringing it back to life! I guess we have to bring back PizzaGate as well then.

Thats been the whole idea all along, they are publicly outraged, but when they talk to their buddies is all a big joke, a game, but its not because if their friend drops his guard im gonna stab him in the back. It's probably the most pathetic shallow shit I've ever seen.

People pretending to be outraged, who aren't actually outraged, and in truth are just narcissists looking for attention and back pats. Mixed in with the SJ "true believers" is fucking terrifying.

The fact we have a group of people who have sat on wikipedia and other informational sites, have written articles about how GG almost drove every woman off the internet and raped them through their computer screens. And they've stuck to that story for 4 years...

It just says to me that the Gaming industry doesn't want to have a look at itself, it wants to be Hollywood, but no Writers Guild, no staff protections, no seperation of marketing and press.

I mean it must be pretty nice sitting in silicon valley, where you have a job reviewing stuff, but you barely have to play, since the company that your reviewing is your employer too, so you know how the review is gonna come out.

These stories have to continue coming out, because people might stop and reflect on the GG thing for a second and doubts might creep in.

Already posted about it in smol news, VG247 are literally who's so the idea they can threaten GOG or their support means anything is pretty funny. Especially since all they did was to remove a bunch of affiliate links.
Meanwhile KiA and imageboards are reacting to the apology by saying they'll boycott GOG and download their releases skull and crossbones style. As for the apology well, you know the drill by now.....

Disappointing they are so apologetic about it.
Also, Gamergate apparently ruined lives and murdered someone? And the article leads to a buzzfeed article about a dude who's "pro-Trump, alt-right" who killed his father. Apparently, that proves Gamergate kills people.

Stupid of GOG to apologise because of people banging on about a dead movement that literally did nothing. Like, of all the things. I will admit, I have lost a modicum of respect for them for this backtracking over a dumb joke.

I'll say it again, gamergate was a GODSEND to games journalism and attention whores on the fringe of the industry.
