VG247 pulls support and coverage of GOG.com following pro GamerGate tweet - Some tweet of a Postal 2 DLC screenshot means supporting a dead hashtag.

Because owning shit gives you bad press. Does not matter whatever the view is the very act of having a set view will alienate some (and more depending on what it is), and for a company like gog they don't want that. Heck none of them do.

Play it as safe as possible.

Yea, as you can see, no one's mad at gog after their apology.

What? Did I enter 2014? This is getting ridiculous! GamerGate is as dead as the Titanic. Stop bringing it back to life! I guess we have to bring back PizzaGate as well then.

It's like every day in the past month I'm hearing something new gamergate related (aka journalists acting exceptional, from pissing on TB's grave to bitching about valve not censoring hard enough, and Gamergate calling them out on it). Those sites must be desperate for clicks.

In the grand scheme does not make any difference. Remember when people got mad at the Witcher 3 and said they would boycott that, or all the other ones? They only really take deep effect when its a across the board mass boycott like BF 2.

Because these people who are reacting are really deep into gaming. They are not the bulk of buyers. I mean by this logic sports games are constantly shat on by gaming sites. But they have a near 1 to 1 sales rate with consoles. Because your average normie buyer does not know, much less care.

People buying the game anyway won't stop people screaming at the PR guy from GoG, not to mention the talks he'll get for failing to put out the fire. I don't envy his position.

If they do a postal 3 they need to cram it full of so many mean spirited, anti-sjw journo shit that the gaming press will be upset 8 years down the line. Their's like another 4 years of them embarissing themselves online and they've really been upping the anti post-gg. It needs to really rub it in their face that their jobs a joke and no-one respects them.

This is a direct-to-video sequel to that one gaming journalist who deleted his Steam account with all the games it had, simply because Steam had some edgy groups that used swastikas.

Stupid of GOG to apologise because of people banging on about a dead movement that literally did nothing. Like, of all the things. I will admit, I have lost a modicum of respect for them for this backtracking over a dumb joke.

I'll say it again, gamergate was a GODSEND to games journalism and attention whores on the fringe of the industry.
Both the screeching of the tweet and apologizing for said tweet are exceptional. Even those that pretty much say they gotta boycott GoG just because GoG apologized is exceptional. All that said, the tweet manages to show us that people just can't let go of GamerGate. I can understand not letting go of something if it really affected the world and such but all this over a hashtag about video game journalism shows you how much the people screeching need to take a deep breath and realize how exceptional it is to get angry over a tweet.

All RWS has to do is just crack a few jokes about gaming journalism and it'll do the work itself. The fact that one of the people complaining about GoG's tweet also complained about Postal 2 having Milo in it is enough to bother them. Imagine if Postal 2 had Trump in it without any reaction to the NPC beyond some small time chatter. Spergs would be raging over that unless they knew you could kill the NPC.

Gamergate was always a strange concept to me because it seemed like people on either side had radically different ideas about what it was about. The anti gamergate seemed to think it was all about harassing women and shit and the honestly I don't know what the pro side thought because it seemed to change from person to person.

Plus, no one cares about it anymore unless they can use it to milk sympathy

Also Talking about Gamergate after 2014. Did someone not get the memo that it die off after a year?
Gamergate? More like gamerlate. :smug:
GoG has always kinda sucked and them bending over to sjws doesn't help that.
I have a friend who only buys games on gog. It's very strange. She won't even take free games I have spare unless they have gog keys.

GameGate, at it's core, was a pushback against poz and Cultural Marxism in video games and entertainment in general. It was the first real case of those freaks getting hit back and the way they melted down about it made it all worthwhile.

I'm sure that GoG is truly hurting that a no-name video game blogging site is never covering them when their interaction with their articles consist of one to two comments. I'm also sure they'll be crying when they refuse to cover Cyberpunk, possibly one of the biggest games of the decade. Oh no, whatever will they do.

Corporations apologizing gets nowhere, Gamergate is re.tarded. But it honestly doesn't matter. These people won't shop at GoG and people who shop at GoG won't stop buying games there.
