Are videogames for children?

God its realllllyyyy hard to not break my rule of not buying EA for Starship Troopers: Extermination. Gameplay and building look fun even if I just plan to drop in with Rando's.
Game's fun as is, but I don't know how long that'd hold out without updates. Enemy roster on normal is kinda lacking - just Warriors, Giant Warriors, Swarmers, Shooters, and Plasma Bugs. A solid foundation. Levels seem to have some legs on them so far, turns out there's a lot you can do with varied spawn locations, objectives, and an open layout. If I didn't have more money than sense (not a lot of the latter here) I'd wait for a major patch to see what the release cadence and content size is.

buy it if you like it. if you don't vote with our wallet, why should EA ever produce something else otherwise? principles go both ways.
even if it dies fast at least you played a game you enjoyed for a while, isn't that what the money is actually for?

OWI makes some decent tactical shooters, but also everything they've made outside of Squad has died pretty quickly from lack of updates (Beyond the Wire, Post Scriptum). Not wanting to rain on the parade, but just to give a word of caution about them.

At the very least, they kept Scott Tobin around, so the soundtrack will likely be good.

Warlander seems fun, but balance issues out the arse. Incredibly convoluted leveling up system as well - you need to earn titles by grinding out tasks (kills, heals, etc), then applying these titles to a character allows you to equip much better gear in exchange for a spawn timer limit.

So if I want to use a cleric with Rare equipment, I can only spawn as her every five minutes. So far, so good?

Well no, because you can't have multiple load outs for one character. I can't use, say, a Tier 1 version of the character then upgrade mismatch to Tier 4 - I need a Tier 1 and Tier 4 character, with their own separate sets of gear, cosmetics and abilities. I also need to grind out those titles on each individual one, even if they share a class.

It's unbelievably over complicated, and gear makes a massive difference. As a match goes on you will be literally killed in one shot if you haven't been able to get onto a higher tier character. Of course, you can always spend some money for mercenary contracts to fill out that roster...

Matches are only 15 minutes, and the 100 player 20v20 mode is chaotic fun, but I don't think this has legs.

Recently bought Kingdom Come Deliverance from a keysite, and wow is it difficult. I got into hand to hand combat with a guy to get some shit he didn't pay for and I just got fucked up. I tried to sneak around and steal the charcoal, nope not possible. apparantly even on normal everything is purposefully made difficult. Still, having an RPG game based in a real historical setting instead of a fictional fantasy setting is a neat idea.

iirc the beginning is harder because then you're literally just a filthy peasant who needs to git gud. should get easier/more manageable later one.

The combat system takes a lot to get used to and even then you learn pretty quickly you're can't really solo multiple people like it's nothing. Which is my biggest complaint; there's a few side missions where you're forced to take on a camp with 4-5 guys in it and the only real way to take it on is to cheese it. That's the one time I wished I could have a companion or something to help.

You HAVE to go to Captain Bernard in Rattay and train with him. Think of it as being like an autistic real Medieval life sim and play accordingly. You will not make it in swordfights. If you thought that was bad a single Cuman will eat you alive. Basically, you are the equivalent of a novice fencing student being thrown against professional soldiers. You will not make it without professional sword training. Think of it as boot camp/basic training. Thankfully just chilling in Rattay shopping in the market, playing farkle, dating the miller's daughter, doing whatever errands, practicing archery/swordfighting is fun in and of itself.

Unfortunately, that is too impractical to ever actually get good at pickpocketing or lockpicking for a thief build to be viable. (You can tell the devs totally gave up their idea of it anyways, they didn't even pay lip service to the bard character path they originally promised. But being more focused on serving as a retainer was a good idea.) Archery also sucks, I never got good enough at it to fight, only enough to hunt.

By the way, you'll notice that money is scarce early on and mostly comes from occasional payoffs for your retainer duties, but if you don't roleplay more realistically (like not hauling around fifty armor sets on your back to pawn) it will eventually do this exponential takeoff around the time you become both high enough skilled and tanky enough armored to just kill everything. Until then, alchemy (I don't remember if it's gated behind a mission) and poaching (if you figure out archery well enough) are both your best choices for careers.

I thought this when the game came out, bought and played some of it, got super annoyed and put it down forever. Wonder if I was just mad cause bad.
I don't think so. KCD is genuinely poorly designed, and I'm convinced that the rabid "get gud" culture in the fanbase is misdirected Czech nationalism.

I'd say it's less about git gud and more an intended power progression or "realism", which seems off when you come from games like skyrim or witcher where you start as pseudo-superhuman right out of the gate. think of it as starting dnd at level0 (or 1 if you have the misfortune to play 5e).

also keep in mind there's even a louder minority whining about difficulty in souls games. vidya going mainstream was a fucking mistake...

Darn, I watched the "how bad is the combine" one way back and thought it was interesting, it's crazy seeing seemingly normal people decide the best path of action is to cut their cock off. Seems like a pattern at this point, depressed gamers with underlying agp decide to turn into their e-girl gf fantasy, and then whine when people unsub after they've gone a little crazy.

I don't know. I'm not asking for the game to let me murder the whole town with the starter blade with no consequences, but all the mechanics are just clunky to me. The response to this (on the Steam forums at least) has always been "git gud" as if they aren't.

The awkward combat, limited save items, and stealth with little room for error I can stomach, but lockpicking is just a chore if it works at all. At first it was just broken on controller, but the alternative is to swing the mouse around in huge circles like you're playing a VR game or something.

I don't think he has gone that far. I think it's just way to get attention or people joining in on a fad. I think this applies to this weirdo. I was going to subscribe because of the combine video I watched a few days ago. Then I checked out the video and saw and all the hilariously weird and cringey shit and said no way. You can find Half Life content on YouTube that is made by normal people.

Imagine all the people who subbed to this guy a few years ago and then comeback to find this dumpster fire of a person. You better believe people will unsub. LOL

Playing TES III: Morrowind almost gave me a headache for an hour straight. I spent more time being lost checking out the scenery and townspeople than going over the walk through.

Overall, it's still a nice game.

Something that keeps rolling through my head every now and then when I'm thinkin' 'bout videogames is something called the "Xbox Series R", which sounds interesting but'll just turn out to be an Xbox Series S that's integrated into TV sets and the back seats of expensive cars.

I don't know why that specific thing keeps kicking around in the back of my mind. If it ever turns out to be real, someone let me know so I can wave my dick around

I bought Boltgun on Steam. It's a good game. It's a Boomer shooter based on Warhammer 40k. I don't know that much about Warhammer stuff. I know a little but not much. I don't play the table top stuff at all and never have. You don't need to know anything about Warhammer 40k or anything to play it. By Boomer shooter I mean it's done in a retro fashion. Like Selaco and Wrath: Aeon of Ruin.
