Update: 24 hours to go. Datamining has reviled there is an anniversary event planned. The double XP hour has been shifted to midnight LA time. Sound normal? Well you see, the event includes in hexcode the phrase 'from candy to copper'. Copper is the traditional gift for a 7th wedding anniversary. But you know what's one letter off from copper? Cooper, the protagonist of TF2.
Well it was nothing, but an anon from /tfg/ went diving in discord and holy shit, the full story is even funnier. The hidden schizo messages were real but in the most retarded, gay way possible.

Backstory: TF1 and TF2 were basically unplayable online due to hackers DDoSing the servers for years and Respawn not giving a shit enough to fix it. That whole story is also retarded. TF1 I believe is still unplayable, and TF2 only just got fixed. The community also had a history with 'benevolent hackers' and gay discord ops, which is an even more retarded story. To that end the Northstar Client was made, a matchmaking and modding frame work. The people who run it are the kind of people you expect to hang around the discord of a dead abandoned game working on infrastructure.

So the past month or so TF2 is getting fixed, and the patch notes and rotating play lists started including cryptic references to the number 3 and something happening this weekend. Thankfully, dataminers were always on hand to catch them. They even caught a dev changing one to say "go away" in real time. The community is losing it's fucking mind with hope in the first time in years.

The day came and it the big surprise was.. an anniversary playlist. The kind of no effort bullshit that happens every year. So what the fuck was all that illumanati build up? Turns out, Respawn gives so little of shit they contracted the patch notes and community messages to one of the Northstar trannies.

The whole fucking thing was an unauthorized stunt by a discord tranny janny. He did it, say it with me folks, FOR FREE. The autism was coming from inside the house! Oh, and that bit about manual bans? 4chan's clan got broken up for, I shit you not, 'terrorism'. (Saying they would Ted K Respawn's office). But the real crime was having fun on the internet and calling redditors niggers.

So not only no TF3, it's confirmed Respawn cares so little they contract public facing work out with no oversight, AND a discord janny now has the power to ban people who upset him. For free. What a fucking ride, and it's still only in the running for gayest op ever ran on Titanfall players.

Getting my ass kicked back and forth in Battle Brothers. Most of the game is unforgiving to say the least but you can get by. But you get to certain parts...I can't remember a game more seemingly intentionally designed to make you smash your desk in out in frustration with how bullshit the enemies are. And I played dark souls.

Battle Brothers is one of those games, like Darkest Dungeon, where I love all the stuff about the game, but dread actually trying to play it again, mostly sticking to watching videos. I know that once you learn enough of the mechanics and the ins-and-outs that you can setup some ridiculous shit and make the difficulty curve your bitch, but those moments of agony are way beyond the kind of shit Dark Souls will pull on you. At least in DS, you just lose the time running back, maybe some souls, beat your head against the wall for a bit until you kill a boss. But having the strategy layer on those other games, where you build up a character or party over hours and hours, only to watch everything fall apart, is like the opposite of catharsis. Truly maddening. They're good games, but damn.

Word hasn't started spreading wide about the contractor, but the disappointment has begun to sink in to the average content creator and they're blaming Respawn.

So Bravo, Janny. You could have stayed in the basement with your programmer socks, kept plugging along with patches and minor support, and let TF2's player count swell back up naturally now that it was playable with out your client and word of mouth was spreading. But no, you had to be the center of attention, and you've broken the spirit of the community. Hell, the resurgence might even die after this stunt. And it's all being laid at the feet of the people who sign your paychecks, so have fun.

Currently playing through Druidstone, the final game by the Legend of Grimrock developers.
This game is the pinnacle of bullshit but it's done in a way I end up enjoying somehow and the fact that you can restart and replay missions without much trouble(thank god reloading or restarting is done in under a second, if it took as long as reloading in Grimrock 2 I would have quit long ago) so I think that's a big part of it.

Still here trying to gaslight myself into playing fighting games. I want to get good at a character and see that journey through, but spending 2-3 hours a day for a week just to be competent isn't appealing next to.. idk, Sims. Indies. Anything else. Yet I crave something to truly drown in.

Just tried Ghostrunner 2, it has all things a modern video game sequel of a surprise hit has to have - magical sassy negro hacker gurl with nappy hair, good guys verbatim saying bash the fash and that it's ok to be murderous if you bash the fash, and an entire rant on how religion is bad. Not sure why devs decided on a mission hub, previous game's fast pace was one of its best features, now you have to engage in bethesda level dialogue with NPCs to progress story. Unfortunately had to refund it.

The most helpful thing for getting into fighting games is having a friend who also likes fighting games.
Having a partner who can give feedback really helps and is more fun than labbing alone for hours.
I had a friend who just liked watching me work on various combo trials in SF5 and that was more helpful than doing them alone.
Also don't get caught up on memorizing combos and execution heavy stuff if you are still having trouble with fundamentals. It's very possible to win most matches in most mainstream fighting games by just getting good at blocking, throwing and executing simple punishes.

Just finished Octopath Traveler II. Wonderful game, really hope they continue the franchise. I'm still trying to chip away at my backlog and resist buying more games but boy is it hard with stuff like the Star Ocean 2 remake coming out soon.

Cleanse yourself and try out Robocop. During the demo in the RPG section of the game I had the choice of smashing a couple of black kids boombox so they would stop lottering/harassing a asian shop owner. And I did! Got "Uphold the Law" points.

Found an incredibly autistic YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@screenkisses/

It is a series of 3D models of video game characters, and they zoom in on their lips, so you can kiss them.

Guy's never heard of morbid curiosity.

Square sponsored something interesting
Little miss goodie two shoes

Quaint looking Pixel horror game that looks like an RPG maker game with a budget

I'm not gonna get it but It looks tempting. Just wanted to know if anyone has tried it.

Pretty difficult to do it when I'm told to peddle love letters between two sodomite cowboys like in Weird West.
Oh lovely. I was enjoying that for a min from the monthly PlayStation deal. Good thing I stopped early.
It's been by far the most uneven feeling and most frustrating of the games
They didn't bring in Bruce tim for the writing and it shows. It doesn't get any better. The franchise ended at origins for me, that had the best gameplay even if they didn't bring back Kevin.

Figured it's not worth starting a thread over: Anyone been autistic/determined enough to actually chunk through their backlog? I have a lot of games that I enjoy but never finished or gotten far in but I tend to just fuck around and not play anything instead of getting through any.

Anyone play Alan Wake 2 yet? How woke is it?
The game goes by without a single hitch until the literal last half hour, when somebody tought it was safe to make Saga say "I won't let another white asshole screw me over". It felt like an obligation, like somebody put a gun to a family member of a staff writer, and it comes off really uncharacteristic of Saga (who the game tries very hard to pretend that is not a quadroon). And the phrase itself happens within context (of which I can't talk about without spoiling the game), so you can let it slide if you've been enjoying the ride until that point. Aside from that, racism and "masculity" are blamed for the actions of one of the minor antagonists. It's all very small, it has nothing to do with the main story, and it's not jammed in the way Hollywood writers like to tackle Current Year topics. I found it tasteful, even. EDIT: after posting, I remembered the game introduces a lesbian latina FBC agent. She's a very minor character (that I think will be the protagonist of the first (?) DLC), but it counts.

Saga is posessed by the Dark Presence and starts to have intrusive toughts. One of those toughts is the phrase that I posted.

What I really didn't like was how, during the ending, Saga started telling Alan what to do. It felt forced, borderlining on emasculating, and gave a bitter taste to an ending that could cement the game as a masterpiece. Then again, everything about Saga in the ending felt off-character, and the post-credits scene "fixes" the feeling that Alan wasn't the main character of his own story.
It's the best game Remedy have ever made that doesn't have "Max Payne" in the title.
Might not be an informed opinion, since I started playing Remedy games with Control and retroactively played Max Payne and Alan Wake, but I really loved it. The combat is a little junky, but everything else is top notch. I can't think of a game with better atmosphere, and the story genuinely coudn't be told in any other medium.

Origins gets a lot of shit but I remember enjoying it quite a lot and the different voices didn't bother me because it was meant to take place at least a decade before Asylum.
I think there is still a lot of the same charm in Knight. It feels like they tried to pay a lot of respect to the comics, the animated series, the movies and do their own thing at the same time but the plot itself is definitely not grabbing me as much as something like City.

I'm at like 96% completion, I have what I assume is the last mission left to take care of, a couple of side missions as well as 80% of the Riddler garbage and in spite of that I really haven't felt much like sitting down and finishing it.
It has sort of become a slog and I can't handle another terrible car boss fight.
