The new Prey is really fucking good. I appreciate any game that will allow me to explore my way into a fight I'm totally unprepared to handle just outside the tutorial zone. Bonus points if 20 deaths eventually leads to a mad gauntlet of turrets and explosive canisters purpose-built to eliminate this one asshole while I run away.

prey fucking rules. if you're still early in the game it would help to get the neuromods that increase speed/jump height, the one that increases the amount of health healed from food and medkits, and better wrench damage. pretty much everything can get fucked up by the goop gun/wrench combo until you reach the elemental phantoms.

That fucking goop gun hasn't done anything but solve environmental puzzles and get me killed in combat. I'm still starting (just got to the first spacewalk), so maybe it's better with some upgrades, but I have a hard time giving it kits when pistol potshots + hiding are doing so well for me.

Also, it did nothing at all to that flaming prick in the trauma center, the subject of my prior post.

I still haven't quite hammered out a build - a lot of the cheaper neuromod upgrades seem to be a great value for the price, so my upgrades are kinda all over the place. I'm considering restarting to build directly into a stealth/melee powerhouse, but I want to see some more guns and puzzles before I pull the trigger on that.

Oh hey, elemental phantoms. Like, on fire, right? Derp. Is there a useful strategy for them other then being well-armed? The Hall of Horror worked out, but I doubt I'll have two turrets and a dozen canisters at my disposal next time.

the only neuromods that i would say are crucial are the ones for hacking, speed, and leverage. many times you'll be able to get past a locked door by hacking it, throwing shit through a window, or just jumping thirty feet in the air and landing on the other side. other than those mods, build your character however you want!

the magic of the goop gun is when you've got an enemy charging at you. make single shots at range, but once they close in you gotta give them the goop. you'll usually be able to freeze most enemies before they run up on you, and the extra damage will save your ass more than once. you can upgrade the rate it freezes enemies as well.

early game you'll be better off using stealth and turrets to deal with typhon until you find the shotgun. once you find the shotgun more opportunities will show themselves to you, much like real life. try to conserve ammo, as you will find less over time. crafting ammo can help but most of the time for me i only had enough material to make one box at a time, and there will occasionally be things more important, like neuromods, that you can craft.

early game phantoms can be a pain in the ass. be sure to keep moving, since their projectiles can knock off a good chunk of your health. if you have a couple points in leverage, throwing explosive canisters before a fight will give you the advantage. later game i found that freezing them with the goop gun and spraying pistol rounds in their face will take care of them pretty quickly. i don't want to spoil the surprise about the elemental phantoms, so all i'm gonna say is that you haven't seen the last of fire guy.

once you find the nerf gun, keep it with you through the whole game. i'm not joking when i say it can be the most useful tool next to the goop gun.

you will also have new trees of neuromods to unlock, but select them wisely. that's all i'm gonna say.

Goddamn it Japan.

I'm trying to accomplish all the optional mission objectives in MGSV and I'm convinced one of them is impossible. Anyone know how to extract Kaz in the first level without alerting the skulls? No matter what I do or where I step they spot me.

I impulsively pre-ordered Cuphead last night, it's on my hard drive, waiting for the release day. Hope I didn't make a mistake like I did with Micro Machines World Series.

So I beat Prey.

I ended up going for the Nullwave ending, mostly because that was the one that let me play the longest. The stinger was certainly something, but I apparently passed with flying colors. I'm looking forward to my next playthrough, with cheats.

The game felt a bit cramped, at times. I'd normally think that was due to crunch time pruning, but in this case it could well have been an intentional choice to maintain a sense of pressure. Still, it felt like there was room for the game to open up a bit, maybe have a few more people camp in your office and send you on quests, and slow down the escalation of the invasion a bit. It might have helped to not have January constantly yammering about the need to destroy the station.

I ended up grossly overpowered by the end. Thanks to @timecop's advice, I was looting every corner of every room by the end of the first act. I opted against alien skills (this time), so I was able to level up everything else to max, including my guns. By the time I met the first Nightmare, I was able to gib him with a single shotgun clip. By the end of the game, my playstyle was... Doom-like. Lots of flying leaps at giant bastards with my shotgun blazing.

All in all, it's a lovely mutt in the tradition of the good old ones, like System Shock and Deus Ex. I called it System Shock 3 earlier, and that's really the best way to describe how it feels. Sometimes a shooter, sometimes a stealth game, sometimes horror, and for a bit there when I was crafting weapons while an NPC told me about a quest, it sure felt like an RPG.

Basically, if you enjoy old deus ex style extremely freeform gameplay, you need to get on this.

Can't you just replay it when you have D-Dog or Quiet? I'd suggest using D-Dog to mark all soldiers and taking them out with a silenced pistol, also shooting out the lights makes things easier.

I mildly enjoyed the free Overwatch weekend. Looks like the easy way to mvp is to be a healer.

So who's played Hyperion Galactic Survival' because God damn that game scratches every fucking itch I have, base building, check. Ship building, check. FPS combat, check, exploration, check. It's fucking awesome and for an alpha it's polished as hell.

It's a free weekend for Skyline:Cities. I'm not usually into that kinda stuff but it looks intriguing.
The first big paycheck from my new 2nd job is going to go to South Park: The Fractured but Whole, though. And y'know, greasy food.

I spent an hour in BG rerolling my character to have the best stats.

It was for a multiplayer game with a BG veteran and he told me it was needed.

I know that's not advice or anything tho.
