Finally beat this a few days ago, explosion immunity is my BFF. Good game but there's no way I'm going to try for the hidden endings given the bullshit they require.

Anyone have any good recommendations for something with strategic depth that works in short sessions? I'm getting sick of doomscrolling during downtime and need something I can tab into and out of quickly.
Slay the Spire and its myriad clones have been my standby but I'm kind of sick of deckbuilding.
Hades is another great rougelike, you kinda have to make a build but its more about just rolling with what you get.
Darkest Dungeon is rougelikeish and about as complex as StS, you have to manage RNG basically.
FTL and Into the Breach are all about short term strategy.
Invisible inc, its a stealth xcom.
All of those are basically 10/10

I've been through all of those; Good taste. That weird little subgenre that all of those fit into is pretty much all I play anymore.

Agree on all aside from Invisible, but that's mostly because I only have like 20 minutes in it. Maybe I'll give it another shot, it never really grabbed me when I tried it before.

Just a head's up, Mr. Driller: Drill Land is on sale on the Nintendo shop for $15 (half off). It's an HD Remaster of a formerly Japan Exclusive Gamecube game. What makes this worth getting is that it's on modern platforms (also on Steam), the last Mr. Driller game was released on the Wii back in 2009.

I mean if you don't know what Mr. Driller is just look it up on Youtube or just play it on Mame, you play a cute Chibi kid who keeps digging lower and lower down the earth until he runs outta air or is squashed by falling rocks. It's simplistic and insanely addictive. Drill Land has an amazingly catchy Japanese OST that greatly compliments the game. My only advice is skip the cutscenes because they're clearly made for the youngest of audience in mind.

It's stuff like this and Puyo Puyo Tetris that keeps my Switch active. Just pure addictive fun.

It's a great game with a story mode, challenges and everything, they really tried to add as much as possible to an arcade game to warrant a retail price back then.

Mr. Driller is also the son of the man known from his involvement in the dig dug incident.

Lost hours of progress on Asuna today due to an error and the nuances of the autosave feature. I am furious, probably not going to go back to it. Fuck that all.

Have any games actually used the PS5's strange motor tension tech for the triggers other than the Sony demo game, or are they going to pan out like the Switch's "enhanced haptics" did where basically no one used them properly.

Demon's Souls, Bugsnax, Spiderman, Astro's Playroom, COD are the ones I know use it.

There's also The Pathlesss, that's supposed to use the haptic feedback for it.

It's way too early to tell if it's going to stick around.

It seems pretty neat and I'm glad it's getting some support, but this seems like one of those things devs see and end up overusing within the first year or two like wiimote waggle, or just losing interest like with the PS4 touchpad. Hope this isn't the case though. With the price increase on the PS5 Dualsense over the previous dualshocks I assume Sony wants to get what they can out of it and convince devs to use the feature set.

If you are looking for a cool game to fuck around in get nova drift on steam - edit damn it I didn't mean to hit send
It's like if geometry wars was an action rpg, you command a ship that you upgrade as you fight in an arena against waves of enemies. It's basic, but they have packed so much into that concept already and it's still in early access. It made me think of @Marissa Moira, it's like the opposite of a visual novel, it strips out all the story to focus on the mechanics.

Also it's on sale atm

Currently revisiting Grim Dawn and apparently Crate added some special totems that trigger insane mini-bossrush challenges (and give fantastic loot). Bleed warder has been doing pretty well so far, just absolutely murderfucking things, but this one totem spawns a shitton of undead. I quickly realize "oh fuck I've been neglecting my resistance reduction skills" as my strongest bleed attacks do nearly fucking nothing, and the ghostly enemies have a 25% evasion chance against physical attacks to begin with. On top of that, ALL THE SPAWNED HERO MOBS ARE CAPABLE OF SUMMONING ADDS. Oh, and there are strong AoE casters AND trappers, meaning I get repeatedly entrapped and have a Sigil dropped on my ass to fry me while the mobs all pile around and screw my ability to move when the trap breaks. Plus one's a Frozen hero, meaning I'm getting freezelocked too besides the trapping.

Basically an absolute worst-case scenario for this build. Took me 7 tries to clear the totem on VETERAN for god's sake.

Xbox taking Japan meme failed again, the sales numbers came out.

Xbox sold 20k consoles

PS5 sold 120k consoles

US Expats over there are the usual scalper culprits and you have a few that went Mom with a Trunk Full of Wii-Us with the Xbox and it seems shipping costs are fucking them in the ass because westerners seem to be the ones who mostly want the Series X.

Humble Bundle has a bundle with Toejam & Earl : BitG and its soundtrack in the $1 tier.

It's not a great game but at that price it's worth picking up for the netplay. A whole lot of its flaws fade away if you're playing it drunk with friends over voicechat.

I will genuinely flip a goddamn table if this happens and we get source for any of the metroid-ish castlevanias, doubly so if it's the XBLA multiplayer one that nobody bought.

IO Interactive (Hitman) just announced they're making a James Bond video game.
This is very cool since Hitman already is a defacto James Bond game. I just hope they secure the rights to use Daniel Craig or whoever is next to play James Bond. Since we won't see this game for at least a couple years we might have a new Bond actor by then.

Well, it can't be any worse than what the new film's poised to be.

And I hope they get someone besides Craig, that Bond's been milked for the last 14 years.

Yeah, I'm happy for IO. They deserve a big franchise with how well they've developed Hitman over the years.

My guess is that this will not be a movie Bond or likeness. It sounds like it's IO's take on the character, which I think is the best approach.

I didn't even know the Xbox One came out in Japan until several years after it launched

like I know the Xbox 360 at least got a little ground there from stuff like The Id@lmaster being an exclusive and netting a few JRPGs before their PS3 releases, but from what I saw, MS didn't give a single fuck about the Japanese market with the Xbone
