High On Life is worse than Sonic Frontiers, it made it look like Orange Box. The boss named Krubis early on got stuck in the floor and I almost didn't pass that part of the game.
 
It just occurred to me that I have tried to introduce friends and family to Hollow Knight several times and in every case they would not pick it up. That makes me sad because it's super good and and I can't sperg about how good it is on a deeper level to people I know if they won't put the time in to play it - ugh!

People say that it's good but to me it looks off putting. I really don't like the art and colors and from what gameplay I've seen I have subconsciously categorized it as "oh, it's one of those". Maybe it's good, I'll never know.

I played some Metroid Dread and to my surprise it's pretty decent. The counter system feels much improved from Samus Returns but that still doesn't mean it was a good addition in the first place. It breaks the flow.
Metroid was not about always clearing out EVERY path you take EVERY time you go through it but now it feels necessary and it wastes my time. The rewards are better for counter killing enemies so it encourages the player to stand still and wait for the enemy to flash yellow then press the button for a quick kill. I HAVE TO STAND THERE AND WAIT FOR A QUICK KILL! What kind of retard came up with this?
If I don't do that the fuckers will launch themselves up my ass as I'm passing or clambering up a ledge and to regain that health... I will have to stand around and wait for a quick kill to get a guaranteed larger health reward.

The robodogs weren't as dumb of an addition as I thought they would be and areas they don't control have some actual color and vibrance instead of looking like 2003. The first (real) one wasn't that good but with the stealth thing it became better, it really cut down on the scooby doo chase sequences.
 
I got a PS5, now that you can go to the store and trip over them. I had a Xbox Series S that's pretty much like a PS4 Pro to me.

Well it's super ultra top 10 good, but I can only sperg in my limited way to those who haven't played it as stated above and can't dog you since we only share a forum. It's funny you paired that with Metroid Dread since it is also in that same genre and in my opinion perhaps the best work that has ever been done within it. If you do never intend to play it and therefore have nothing to lose by getting spoiled on content/surprises then I'd recommend spending 3 minutes watching this boss fight to see the smoothness and challenge of the games biggest highlight (to me at least) it's excellent bosses as well as some amazing music.

Hollow Knight is frankly too hard for most people. That's what it boils down to.

it unironically is. when I fancy a metroidvania I'll just grab a more casual one from the several dozens that exist (but most people don't know about). however that also means I can not e-peen with it on the internet and show people what a gAmEr I am.

There actually are a surprising amount of decent but not great Metroidvanias.

Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is pretty okay for example.

The problem is that a lot of them are made by Westerners and boy howdy does it show in the aesthetics. See Timespinner.

I don't mind that too much tho, it's usually more that I'm just too lazy to really get into some game if it wants more than I'm willing to give and spend energy on at that moment. same for games that want a triple-digit playtime, ain't got time for that (anymore). rather finish a few short games than one for weeks.
aesthetics I'm actually very tolerant, even stuff like timespinner has some effort put into it compared to most corporate slop. if it's consistent I'm usually fine with it. maybe that's a relic from the 16-bit days, no one really cared where a game came from as a kid.

helps that next fest spoils you when it comes to certain genres, metroidvanias are among the most common so I don't feel I "need" to play hollow knight or whatever the current FOTM game is, already got my fill elsewhere, and those come from all over the place.

I started playing All The Mods 7 - Into the sky and recording it.
Did some minimal editing in Davinci Resolve.

Not very interesting to look at but I'm hoping to quietly unravel the mechanics I missed the first time and maybe provide more reliable documentation of how they actually work in video form, without having to actually vocally explain anything and pad the videos out like a MINECRAFT YOUTUBER

I also actually bought inscryption and now have megaman legacy collections 1 and 2 on steam.
I beat mega man 1 (with significant problems) and am almost done with mega man 2 and for some god damn reason all of the weaknesses seem to be all fucked up.
Air man got gibbed to shit by the mega buster and the leaves just bounced off. Why? What for?

Meanwhile I have a fucking gaggle of games I have still not touched that I just redeemed because I paid for the jingle jam and still have humble choice classic
I am buried alive in shit I should be playing and frankly would not have it any other way
