Are videogames for children?

I've finally picked up Yakuza: Ishin in earnest and I'm enjoying it. Though it's the sort of game where I wish I knew how to mod/create mods so I could implement some Q.o.L improvements.

-make additional fast travel points to key locations
-skip certain dialog animations after seeing them the first time
-fix the troops thing so you can level them up from a screen with them all on it rather than having to assign one to a squad before leveling
-do something about the chicken racing game as it's way too much to absorb

Like it's a good game but it needs a lot of little tweaks just for general gameplay stuff.

For those who have been around the M.U.G.E.N. scene for a while, you probably know about the creator RicePigeon: creator of a Touhou MUGEN game: Gensokyo Reloaded and would have made something called Incident Zero. Notice I said "would" because....well, things are changing for the worst: https://mugenguild.com/forum/topics/end-an-era-20072023-198309.0.html
TL;DR: they've became a Catholic Christian, somewhat of a hardliner from the looks of it, because he's bowing to copyright and DFE'd his works in order to renounce a sin. But he's still serving admin on another major forum, Mugen Free For All, and probably might go against non-original content after a while. Oh, and he's leaving development for GR's future updates and stopped IZ in its tracks.

I would like to offer my apologies publicly to ZUN and Tasofro in this matter for having wronged them in the eyes of God. I've also taken the additional step of removing all downloads to my MUGEN content and deleting both them and the pirated software from my hard drive, as I cannot condone keeping stolen goods in good conscience.
While I cannot control what anyone else does, I implore anyone seeking to create and/or continue creating content for the MUGEN and IKEMEN engines to please seek permission from the copyright holder and/or creator before using them unless you yourself created them, not just for legal reasons, but for the sake of your own souls.

It would be one thing to apologize to ZUN and Tasofro for no real reason at all, but it’s another to deleted already downloaded and pirated software just for “cleansing your soul”. At least he’s still doing development for GR’s updates, while doing an admin forum for Free for All, but it still doesn’t make it any less suspicious that they’re doing this without any valid reason.

Unless there’s something nefarious going on.

🤔

Believe me, I sense something's going on here. The way he's written it makes it feel like he had a metaphorical gun stuck to his head the entire time.
Also no, he's not gonna work on GR anymore (probably deleted it), but with him still acting as admin on MFFA....I'm betting he's gonna enforce some kind of "no non-original content" rule if he does break down and go full draconian, but that might be just me fearing the worst.
Should also point out this is obviously getting rather shocked and angry responses in the thread, even from close friends.

Thanks to Civvie11 I found another good Boomer shooter that I didn't even know existed. It's called Zortch. It lie old school FPS games then try it out. It's no Quake II remaster (that's really amazing) but it's still fun. It's only 3 or 4 hours long and cost $5. You could pay $5 for a movie that only lasts an hour and 30 minutes and it could be terrible. It's cheap and it's good. What's not to like?

I found some more Boomer/throw back shooters thanks to this video. Though I already know about some of them and even own them on Steam.

I also found this video of really cool looking JRPG made in an old school pixelated look. I won't lie I have a think for old pixelated JRPG's. I pretty much get them whenever I can. I like the way the characters looks when they are pixels. I like the pixel art look of the games. Even games like Octopath Traveler that do the 2.5D thing.

Anyone ever try this game or know anything about it?

Ugh this sucks. Work is down for a few days, possibly longer, due to a fire and despite owning something like 4000 games I have nothing to play, sitting around waiting for Pokemon Scarlet to arrive. I am thinking I should hook the ol' Wii U up and play Xenoblade X but I know that as soon as I do, Scarlet will be waiting for me.

edit: Oh yeah... I never did buy that Wii U gamepad charging cable to go along with my otherwise complete Wii U, did I? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKKK

Undertale was almost revolutionary for punishing being a mindless murderhobo and stopping you from quickloading the consequences away. Mindlessly keep attacking your adoptive goat-mom and, oops, she's dead...
Might be a generational thing. Like @xXx: State of the Union said in another thread, you can kind of guess someone's age by the games they defend, and this makes me think you're under 25.

Back in my day there were flash games that did this. A famous one was "one chance" where you had one playthrough to decide what to do as a virus wiped out humanity. If you were tech savvy enough to know how to clear your browser cache, you could try multiple paths, but for most people is was permanent one and done game.

I'm a bit surprised some of them went down the consoomer path since it goes against their beliefs from back then.
If you take their words at face value, yes. But if you look at their actions and motivations, it becomes obvious.

The main reason people without a direct benefit (ie. the journos and their clique of fuckbuddies) defended those games was because the media told them to do so. The media said those games were good, the media said people who didn't like them were stupid.

So when the media pivoted to saying capeshit was good, and anyone who says otherwise is a racist sexist alt right troll. That it is your moral duty to consoome product and get excited for next product, It was easy for them to make the jump because it's exactly the same message told via exactly the same method, just the product in question changed from walking simulators to capeshit and wokeshit, and the insult changed from "you're a dudebro" to "you're a nazi".

Both offer the same sense of moral superiority by buying and defending the right thing on social media.

Good to see my man MutantLeg finally getting the credit he deserves. (Been a fan of his since the flash version of The Lab)

Anybody still play Path of Exile? I haven't touched it in about 2 years, and I've been thinking about going back, but I don't know how the current game is. Really, I'd like to try making my own build instead of just looking up whatever recommended stuff I usually do, I feel like I've been missing out on some of the fun of the genre, but it's very daunting trying to figure out what to go for, and what the current league mechanics are, on top of all the different stuff I missed, and the usual skill tree/skill gem junk. I'd love a roulette website where I can just get a random unique and make a gimmick build.

(There is this roulette with keystones/mainskill, but no idea how viable pretty much any of the results may be.)

Anyone happen to know any decent PS4/PS5 games where you can play as a mage? The only ones I can think of right now are some of the Soulsborne games (Demon's Soul, Dark Soul 1, 2, and 3, and Elden Ring). Anyone have any suggestions?

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.

You even get different type of mages between healer/world ending magic/and melee & bow enhanced magic.

I haven't actually played it yet, but Little Witch Nobeta seems okay. You play as a witch and it's tagged on Steam as a soulslike, so you might like it.
