For anyone who isn't PCMR and still deciding between Xbox or PS5, this might be worth consideration.

So I just had a weird and off-putting experience with Sony's PSN support. My account got hacked and someone added $240 to my wallet from my credit card. I changed my credentials quickly and nothing was actually purchased. Anyway, I went to their chat support to get the money refunded and while the agent did promise a refund, he quoted their ToS and kept referring to it as a "one time exception" or something like that. To reiterate, nothing had actually been purchased on the store, so any bullshit about obligations to publishers falls flat. I just wanted the charge taken off my credit card.

I know on Steam you can literally get a refund on software you've played as long as it's within a certain time frame and you haven't played much of the game. I glanced over Microsoft's ToS for Xbox and it's similar. Sony's explicitly states that they are not responsible if an account has unauthorized charges.

Let me also say that I get it somewhat. Obviously there are a lot of dishonest people out there who abuse goodwill. I've never requested a refund from Sony before and they should be able to see that a different machine/IP made the purchase. Needless to say, they are correct that this is a one time exception, as I've already taken all my active cards off of PSN and don't plan on buying anything from them again. I'll go Xbox this generation for console.

It's not a one time thing, they can revert the charges multiple times. But if it happens within close proximity to the last event it starts to look suspicious.

Microsoft will tell you the same thing if you have your credit cards linked to your console and something goes fucky.

Most people don't have their credit cards linked to their consoles they buy the currency cards off of Amazon or B&M retailers. These cards are used for money laundering in many cases so amazon has added an extra layer of security for buying either PSN giftcards or Microsoft Giftcards. You have to enter your full credit card now even if you're logged in to your amazon account in order to buy the digital currency cards, and there's about a halfhour to an hour waiting period as they run a security check before the code for the currency is released to you.

Don't link your paypal either the same shit can go wrong. Buy everything you need for digital purchases through currency cards.

This goes for any console or platform that uses their own company funbux. You see they hack the account spend the money on game licenses and resell the code to other grey market retailers, that's how money laundering works. Also 240 bucks means they maybe spent 10 bucks, it's usually blocks of 250 because IIRC that's the maximum allowed on a Sony wallet.

I've decided for the first time ever to completely ignore this console generation. The jump from last gen to this gen is so abysmal from a technical perspective that it almost feels like a cash grab to release a new console.

I don't regret buying a ps4 because I got one fairly cheap a few years after launch but unironically the only exclusive game I played was bloodborne. Makes for a great Netflix machine though.

I miss gamecube/ps2 days bros...

Sometimes when I am sitting here thinking of what game to play next, I shed a tear because Sim City 4 doesn't adequately utilize multicore CPUs.

GranBlue Fantasy series seems like an interesting RPG, even if it was originally a gacha game for Japan. I might check out the PS4 version next month, since I was late to the Geinshin Impact party.

This generation has hardly had a rat's fart in terms of fanfare. Even the disc cases didn't change, the PS5 ones just have white branding on the top instead of blue, and the Xbox ones just now say "Xbox" instead of "Xbox One". Even Corona-chan shit aside, the most I've heard about any PS5 exclusive game is a remake of Demon's Souls, and everything on Xbox Series X works on the Xbox One anyway.

I am too lazy and worn out by the console wars. I will stick to the old ps3 I have and play it as much as possible. I have been looking into upgrading my PC since my GTX 960M is making me miss out on eye candy graphics.

So I'm guessing the whole festival shit and the points shop is just a smokescreen so that nobody will pay attention that their sales no longer has the "5 dollars off" coupon-thing?

Something i have wondered is the fact that ui for the ps5 takes something like 200 gigs of storage What's the reason for ui taking this much storage

Anyone know when Watch Dogs Legion is supposed to turn into a good game? I decided to get the Ubisoft Connection pass-shit today so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm only three or so hours in and it's been pretty fucking boring so far (and has also crashed at least 6 times now).

I think you're just playing an Ubisoft game bro. I dunno what it is I think their games are focus tested so hard in that they just desperately attempt to appeal to a lowest common denominator player mindset as to not frustrate anyone.

With that said they've done overwhelmingly great work with the Far Cry games and I applaud them for pulling the long haul with Rainbow Six Siege. I just wish they'd be more willing to challenge players more mechanically with Assassin's Creed & especially Watch Dogs.

So the new Destiny 2 expansion removed much more content than it added (including story content that was bought and paid for before the game went pseudo-F2P), and somehow this isn't being seen as outrageous by games media or a majority of the games players. I'm literally at a loss for why this would be seen as acceptable and it's pretty much killed any desire I had to go back and play/spend more money on it ever again. Some excuses I'm seeing are "the game was getting too big for them to handle" and that just does not strike me as a good excuse to cut half of your game out, put it in the "vault" with promsies it may come back later, and add far less in return.

Oh my god I love the triple Heavy PPC Awesome. Legit the most fun I've had in an Assault-class.

That likely includes reserved space for the Fast Resume savestates that dumps all memory to disk and a big chunk reserved for possible future features that might get freed up in a couple of years.

The stupid is strong in the MWO playerbase today
lots of heavy voting for Polar Highlands, which means lots of people with LRMs
saw a Marauder-IIC Scorch hero with 4 LRM20s, an ER Small Laser and a single Heavy Machine Gun
that is gross abuse of a great chassis omg what is wrong with you you sick fuck

Considering they're going to be patching in new types of allowed hard drives/portable drives I figure there's going to be a 4 or 6 TB option soon.

I have not seen a 10tb SSD drive come down around enough where the average consumer would buy it.

They're not reserving a percentage of the drive, they can't be as dumb as MS was with VRAM, it's a fixed amount of the internal storage. I was thinking more like how they reserved RAM on the PS3/360 for future OS features and later freed them up.

Affordable 10TB SSDs aren't exactly around the corner but it will happen. Before the 360 was announced it was rumours that it would have a solid state drive. What spoke against that rumor was that at the time, in 2004, a 12 gigabyte SSD cost $21,000 or whatever it was. The military and aviation industry were the primary customers at the time.
